Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Trade with Baseball Dad

I had just completed a trade with Baseball Dad from “All Tribe Baseball” a few weeks ago but I had posted a Ted Williams (I think) card that he had wanted so out sprang another trade.  I didn’t have too much else to send him since we had just completed trades but he still sent me a bunch of Sox for my collection.

trade-baseballdad

I didn’t have any of the Donruss Estrelles even though he had sent me a pack with our previous trade.  I really like the Aparicio insert.  And the Quentin update card was the only card I knew that was coming.  I had no updates at this point but have gotten a few from my fellow bloggers.

trade-baseballdad2

He also sent me this sparkly of Konerko.  I love these sparkly’s, I could collect the whole set of them, I like them that much.  But I haven’t decided to collect any sets yet.

When Jack sent me the pack of Estrelles, they come with a paper checklist, of which I always threw out.  If the checklist is a card, I keep it, paper, I throw it away.  He also sent some packs to others and I saw that the paper checklists unfolded to a mini-poster.  Crap!  I bet I had a great poster.  Well, Jack took pity on me, because I’m a moron.  And sent me a checklist, along with this note.

trade-baseballdad3

Jack must know me pretty well to include the note, here’s what he sent.

trade-baseballdad4

An Ichiro Suzuki.  Sweet!  The only thing I don’t like about Mr. Suzuki is the fact that they only put his first name on all his cards.  It annoys me, I don’t why, it just does.  But I do like the player all the same.  Thanks for taking pity on me Jack.  And thanks for the trade.

Diamond Giveaway

Ordered a bunch of my cards from the Diamond Giveaway site a few weeks ago and they arrived last week.  I mainly ordered them because all the cards I was keeping were Sox cards and I got tired of denying all the trade requests.

diamondgiveaway01

First the player collection cards.  Of course, after I ordered these, the Dravecky’s came in trades.  Oh well.

diamondgiveaway02

I mainly got these because they were vintage Sox, but I selected Bill Melton because he does the pre and post game before Sox games so I actually knew who he was.

diamondgiveaway03

Lots more vintage.  I basically tried to flip whatever vintage I pulled for the same year except a Sox card.  I also got quite a few 90’s and 2000’s cards but figured you all didn’t need to see all those.  Vintage is always better.

diamondgiveaway04

These cards are pretty awesome.  I peeled the plastic off them because I’m keeping them for myself anyways, I want them to look their best.  I’ve read where a lot of you said they look even better in person and you all were right.  I really like these cards.  I was trying to get the other players, Rios, Sale and Quentin (how Konerko didn’t get a card is beyond me) but nobody would flip them for me and out of all the cards I pulled on the site, I only got 1 of these Diamond cut cards so nobody would flip me regular base cards for those.  Justin from “Justin’s World” and I were working on a trade and mentioned he had the Chris Sale card, so he took whatever cards I had left, which I think was 9 and sent me the Sale card.  I’ll scan it and show it when I get it shipped.  I appreciated that Justin.  I appreciate all my fellow trading partners.  My team and player collections have really taken off because of all of you.

Cards from Padrographs

gift-roy2

Rod over at “Padrographs” apparently sends out cards to people just to get rid of them.  I wasn’t even aware of his blog until he contacted me about sending me some.  First off, a shout out to AJ over at “The Lost Collector” for letting Rod know about me.  Now back to Rod.  I received his cards, a nice stack of White Sox, these are just a few that were added to my Sox collection.

gift-roy

Rod, I assume, being a Padres collector hooked me up with my newly started Dave Dravecky collection.  A bunch of cards heading to the player collection.  The 3 ‘85 cards together are a Topps, O-pee-chee and an autographed Topps.  Wow!  Thank you.  All these cards are going to the PC.

Last I heard, Rod was still looking to get rid of a few more teams, so go check out “Padrographs” and see if yours is one of them.  Thanks Rod!

Cheap ebay pick-ups

Just a couple of quick ebay pick ups I’ve gotten this week.

ebay01

Tom Seaver – 1987 Topps ($.20/shipped)

Dave Dravecky – 1990 Pacific Legends collection ($.46/shipped)

Jack Egber – 2008 Bowman Signs of the Future auto ($1.74/shipped)

And now that I’m checking to see what I paid for each of the cards, the Arnie Munoz actually belonged with the lot below that I purchased from the same seller.

ebaylot02

7 auto’s and 1 relic (14.98/shipped) = $1.88/card

So a huge boost to my Sox auto cards, hopefully by the time I post this post, I’ll have my numbers up on the above right updated.  But don’t count on it.  It’s a really cool box to have and a great way to keep track of my collections, but I get so behind because I tend to wait forever to update it.  Then I have a crap load of cards to add.  Right now I have about 6 or 7 posts to type out and still a couple more to scan because I tend to wait.  One of these days I’ll get my crap together.  Maybe.

Today’s festivities

Today about 10:30, my wife and I, and 6 other family members are heading out.  Your saying “What?  Your going to be on the road when Michigan plays Ohio today at noon?”   Ummm, HELL NO!!!!.  Let me back up a bit.

My high school alma mater is playing in the class 5a championship game tonight at 7:05 at Lucas Oil Stadium.  Which is about a 3 1/2 hour drive from here.  The plan was to watch the Michigan game here, everybody climb in the car, and then drive to Indianapolis to watch Penn play.  The problem was, we were either going to just barely make the Penn game or be late.  Well, I remembered that my wife’s sister lives about an hour away towards Indy.  So at 10:30, we are piling in 2 cars and heading to her house.  We are going to crash her living room and TV just to watch the game.  And then we should only have about a 2 hour drive to Indy after the game.  And for the record, my wife’s sister and her family are Notre Dame fans.  But they are family, so I forgive them.  At least while I watch the Michigan game, that is.

As everybody should know, this game is huge for us.  For the obvious reason, it’s been way too long since we beat Ohio.  We’re 10-2 and could very well be undefeated, but all that would be meaningless in Ann Arbor if we lose to Ohio again.  It’s a must win just for our sanity.

But it’s also must win, because it may get us in the top #12 in the BCS poll which would give us a shot at a BCS bowl.  Which after the last few years we’ve had, would be huge for the program.

I used all my Michigan pics in my Photo Cleansing post earlier this week.  But I will leave you with this.

5758 (1)

GO BLUE!!!!!   BEAT OHIO!!!!!

GO BLUE!!!!!   BEAT OHIO!!!!!

GO BLUE!!!!!   BEAT OHIO!!!!!

And for the locals around here.

LET’S GO KINGSMEN!!!

Trade with Stealing Home

Stealing Home from “All Trade Bait” contacted me about a trade, he wanted a few cards I had posted up from buying packs so our trade was born.  He sent me a bunch of Frank Thomas’ that I didn’t have including the following cards.

trade-stealinghome

The Konerko update will go to my player collection as I didn’t have it yet. The Robin Ventura, who is our new manager, is autographed. Don’t know how or when, or even who for that matter, but it’s there. But the 2 cards I really wanted were the Hoyt Wilhelm vintage cards. How could I not want those.

Thanks for the great trade!  Everybody go and check out “All Trade Bait” and check for what he has for your team.  The only downfall I had trading with him, he’s another Dodger fan.  Man, there are a lot of you guys out there.  I can’t keep enough Dodger cards on hand.  But that’s not a bad thing at all, because they are all great traders.

Photo Cleansing #12

Before the Photo Cleansing commences.  Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.  Although I haven’t been around a lot lately, I am definitely thankful to all of you.  For the trades, the chance to read your blogs, and just for bringing my love cards back to me.  I have a lot to post in the next week or so, been getting a lot of trades in, plus free cards and contests winnings, some ebay purchases and some group breaks.  Eventually I’ll get everything scanned and caught up.

Let’s start this off with an advertisement.  If you’re a fan of an AL Central team, I have the DVD set collection for you, check them out.

sports01

But seriously, on to the pics.  We are going right to the vintage pics today.

sports06

George Brett, upon retiring if I remember correctly.

sports07

When I saved this pic, I knew who they were, of course now, I can’t come up with the names.  But talk about a great pic.

sports10

Normally I wouldn’t post Rickey in a Yankees uniform, but I couldn’t help posting this ad when I read the top.

Not vintage enough for you, how about these.

sports08clemente

Roberto Clemente sliding in safely.

sports09robinson

Jackie Robinson trying to steal home.

sports11ford-mantle-martin

And how about Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle and Billy Martin.

I just don’t follow the NFL closely enough to find a bunch of pics of those, when I do, it’s Colts pics and lets face it, we don’t really want to discuss them this year do we?  But we can discuss the Maize and Blue as they go into the Ohio game.  Yes I know there is supposed to be State after that, but I’m taking Brady Hoke’s stand in never calling them that.  And I hate when former cheaters, err, I mean students say they went to “THE” you know, university.  Arrogant bastards,  Sorry!  Anyways, here’s some pics.

sports02

The Hemingway touchdown, that they ruled wasn’t a touchdown, but it was.

sports12

Denard gets in an open field, there is no catching up to him.

sports13

And our featured RB, who has been awesome as of late.

sports14

And next week’s cover will be sort of like this one, just newer.

And now let’s talk about that popular sport that once was.  The NBA, I just have 2 words.  WHO CARES!!!   Yep, that’s about it.  But I do have respect for the past NBA, back when it was good, which is where this final pic came from.

sports03

So like the NBA, I’m done.  Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.

Cheap ebay–Wolverine style

Since Michigan had an impressive win against Nebraska, and I was at the game.  I’ll do a cheap ebay purchase, Wolverine style.

ebaylot01

Picked up all 4 of these for an average less that $2 shipped.  Took advantage of multiple shipping costs by buying them all from 1 buyer.  Both the Mike Hart’s will go in my player collection of his, the other 2 in my Michigan collection.  Also picked up a few cards for a fellow Wolverine collector whenever I decide to ship him another package.

Michigan looked good, not great, but good.  And Nebraska made a lot of mistakes.  But Michigan took advantage of those mistakes and that’s what good teams do.  This big win definitely helped in my confidence going into the final game of the season against that team from Ohio.  The game is this Saturday at noon.  Right now, my plan is to watch the game, probably with my family.  Then we’ll all hop in our cars and head to Indianapolis to watch my alma mater (high school) play for state finals.  That game is at 7 and it takes around 4 hours to get there.  So those plans may change, but I don’t plan on missing either, but we’ll see.

Free Rack Pack

Bought a rack pack today, sort of.  Went out for supper with my mom and stepdad and had to pick up a few things at Kmart so we went over together.  And for old times sake, I threw a rack pack in her cart like I used to when I was a kid.  She went to the bathroom while my stepdad paid so I didn’t get to see her face when they rang it up.  I just had to watch my stepdad shake his head as I explained it.  So I didn’t get all the fun, but I still got free cards.  And I actually got some White Sox cards, granted, I had both of them.  But usually I can’t even pull them.  Here is the “special” cards.

rackpack

The 2 Sox cards I had, but they are Sox, so they are still special.  The Jackie Robinson is an original back 60 Years of Topps.  Of course, I get a few Dodgers after I sent out packages to multiple Dodger fans.  If I’m working on a trade with you, my cards were mailed today.  Oh yeah, the code card.

rackpackcode

A Darrell Evans 1975 card.  And I think it’s my 4th or 5th Braves card on the Diamond Giveaway site.  All vintage too I believe.  I had a bunch of my cards shipped to me (look for that post soon) but I’m still trying to flip the cards I still have to White Sox or player collection cards.

I did some scanning so I will have some more posts this week.  I’ve got a bunch of cards in the mail.  Trades, ebay pickups, free cards and the afore mentioned Diamond Giveaway cards I had shipped.  I probably won’t post tomorrow or Sunday.  Sunday I have to pick my daughter up at the airport.

And, oh yeah, Saturday, I’m heading up to Ann Arbor for the Michigan/Nebraska game.  Really looking forward to the game.  Although I’m not really confident going in because they haven’t looked all that great the last couple of games.  I was hoping to come out and blow Illinois out of the water, just to ease my confidence level going into the Nebraska, then the Ohio game.  And they did, for 2 drives, then fell asleep the rest of the way.  Which in turn, leads to my lack of confidence.  One thing I find really odd is, I’m actually confident of the defense.  They have impressed the hell out of me.  I don’t expect them to pitch a shutout or anything but they’ve definitely done their job.  The offense, which I should have confidence in, is seriously inconsistent.  If the “good” offense shows up, watch out.  If the “bad” offense, watch out, or rather, don’t watch.  What’s really frustrating is the offense switches back and forth all game.  Regardless, I’m looking forward to the game, always do when I go to The Big House.  The atmosphere alone makes the 2+ hour drive worthwhile.  So until next time, GO BLUE!!!

sports02

Nice TD grab, even if the refs said it wasn’t.

Cheap ebay

Picked up a few cards in the last few weeks on ebay.  I set myself limits (as I’ve mentioned before) on how much I can spend on a certain type of card.  I haven’t been able to win a bunch of cheap vintage like I was before but I did manage these 3 cards and the lot below them.

ebay01

Tom Seaver – 1992 Kellogs – .41/free shipping – $.41 total

Bart Johnson – 1974 Topps – .30/free shipping – $.30 total

Jermaine Dye – 2007 UD Sweet Spot relic – .99/.95 shipping – $1.94 total

Totals for 3 cards – $2.65 (Tom Seaver collection, 2 White Sox collection)

ebay02

Tom Seaver – 8 card lot – .99/2.00 shipping – $2.99 shipped.

This lot was a little more than I would normally pay for “newer” cards but I pulled the string anyways since they were Tom Seaver’s and I had none of them.

So a total of 11 cards for a total of $4.93.  All personal collection cards.  Can’t complain about that.  I might have even used some ebay bucks for some of it, but I don’t remember for sure.

Value Pack purchase

valuepack01

This was a value box, and this is all I got that weren’t base cards.  And again, no Sox.  I wasn’t too impressed with it.  I really liked the series 1 value boxes that I purchased, but not this update one.  The Harper is my first of him, but I’m not a big fan anyways.  I was hoping for more sparkly out of the box, at least maybe a cognac one but I didn’t even get that.  Like I said, I was disappointed.  I do like the Ozzie Smith Kimball.  I’ve always like him.  All above are for trade.

I did get an extra code so there was that, here’s what I got from the site.

valuepack02     valuepack03

Another vintage which I always like seeing so I can flip them for vintage Sox.  Not too blown away by an 1986 team leaders card, but hey, I still need a couple 1986 Topps White Sox cards for my team collection.  Hopefully someone will flip one of those for me.

Trade Bait

As mentioned in a previous post, I picked up some trade bait at my LCS.  If this post goes well, maybe I’ll spring one of these posts every so often to get rid of cards I have already.  For the most part, I grabbed oddball stuff that maybe other collector’s wouldn’t have.   So here goes.

tradebait01

1981 Donruss Mike Schmidt and a 1982 Granny Goose Foods Rickey Henderson.

tradebait02

The 1st card says 1996 Upper Deck on it, but I had never seen it before so I grabbed it anyways.  The 2nd Jackie Robinson card says 1994 Upper Deck on the back but it says “Baseball – the American Epic” on the back so I assume this set corresponds with the movie.  And a 1993 Donruss Mike Piazza rookie.  Let’s face it, there’s a crap load of Dodger Bloggers out there, they probably all have it already but it was only $.25.  Speaking of Dodgers.

tradebait03

It’s poorly cut and has a stain on the left, but it’s yours if you want it.  There’s no year on the back due to the poor cut but the last stat year has 1976 so I’m guessing this is a 1977.  I want to say Hostess, but not positive without the info on the back.

tradebait04

1998 Fleer Double Trouble (Hideo Nomo & Mike Piazza) and a 2008 Upper Deck X Xponential Russell Martin.

tradebait05

1965 Topps Cincinnati Reds rookie stars and a 1974 Topps All-stars with Rod Carew and Joe Morgan.  It’s a little worn around the edges.  I grabbed this Ted Kluszewski because I hadn’t seen these cards either.  It says 2003 Topps Flashbacks.

tradebait06

Manny Ramirez gold 2003 Topps.  1978 Topps Fergie Jenkins and a Ted Williams from 1989.  It has JJ Nissen Super Stars at the top, never seen these either but there it is.

tradebait07

Both George Brett.  1987 M&M’s Star Lineup and a 1991 Post Cereal Collector Series.

tradebait08

And the final 2 are both Cal Ripken Jr.  A 1992 Post Cereal Collector Series and a 1990 Topps Kmart Superstars.

All are for trade, but a couple people have first dibs because I’m already working on trades.  So if Stealing Home of “All Trade Bait” wants any of the Dodgers, let me know.  And if Dennis at “Too Many Grandersons” wants the Ripkens then let me know as well.  Let me know if you see anything you want.  If we make a trade, I’ll try to hit your want lists as well but be forewarned, I don’t have much left in my trade box so you may only get the cards you ask for.  I tell you this because I know a lot of you send extra cards, and that’s great, I try to do so as well.  I just don’t want you to be disappointed if there aren’t any extra goodies.  Hit me up with a comment or email if you want any of these.

LCS trip

This past weekend, I got around to finally buying some binders and pages and got all my PC cards all booked and on a shelf.  I was pretty pumped about that.  I’ve been wanting to do it for awhile now so it’s nice that it’s finally done.  My White Sox collection is split between 2 binders and all my Player collections and my Michigan collection are in another.

Stopped by my LCS, he had a bunch of quarter boxes out so I went through those before checking out the higher priced cards.  I came across some trade bait that I couldn’t pass up at $.25, that will be the next post.  While I didn’t manage to come across a whole lot of White Sox cards until the very end, the ones I did find were pretty sweet.  Check them out.

lcs02

1975 TCMA 1919 Chicago White Sox, all these were the boxes so I grabbed all of them.  I think I had one before this purchase, I didn’t bother checking my have list since it was only 1 and a quarter.  I still haven’t looked, I will when I put them away in the binders.

I went over to his showcase which is relatively small considering cards are just a side business for him, didn’t see much but I did get this pretty cheap.

lcs01

It’s got some issues, but they are issues I can deal with for the price.  A 1959 Topps Early Wynn.  I was about to head over to check out and saw some some small count boxes that were labeled and some other boxes I didn’t recognize so I checked those out.  Wasn’t much there but I came across this set for $1.99.

conlon

I know most card collector’s love this set so how could I pass this up.  I bought one and took out all my Sox cards.

lcs03

Those will go in my Sox binder.  Why would I break the set up you ask?  Well for one, I figured I could use the rest of the cards as trade bait, so if you want some or if your trying for the set, let me know.  If you want a certain team, let me know.  Just note that this is only the first 330 cards, not the entire set.  And reason number two.  Because I purchased 2 sets.  The set doesn’t fit into my collection, but really, how could I pass it up at only $1.99.  But, like I said, it doesn’t fit into my collection so I will probably trade it away or use it for a contest prize.  I haven’t decided which yet.  So if your interested in this set, let me know as well.

So I walked away with 12 vintage cards for my Sox collection and 2 full sets (15 of 1 set goes into my Sox collection) all for $13 and some change.  Also some oddball cards for some of you.  I’ll have a trade post tomorrow and feature some of those so be sure to check those out.

I’m thinking that was a good day for me.

Trade with No Relics Pulled

Dustin over at “No Relics Pulled” saw a couple of cards I had posted, I don’t remember at all now what they were.  I remember they were Lineage and that’s about it.  Anyways, when he said he wanted them, I said “Hells yeah, anything for a fellow Wolverine fan.”  Ok, maybe not just like that.  But I can’t turn down a Michigan fan, it’s against my religion.  He responded with a mix of White Sox cards as well as some football.  Here is a sampling of what he sent, all these are new to my PC.

trade-dustin

I really like the 1981 Topps.  I’ve debated on making that my first set to try to collect because it was the first year I started buying packs and I had a crap load of them.  I haven’t pulled the trigger on set building yet because I’m not sure I want to go down that road.  But I do still need some Sox, and Dustin helped out with those.  The only Gypsy Queen mini I had was Jake Peavy so I enjoyed seeing the Quentin and Beckham mini’s as well.

Dustin had said he didn’t have a lot of Sox cards to send so he sent what he had along with some football cards.  I don’t really buy any football anymore but I do have some so they went to that box.  He didn’t even need to send them, but I appreciated that he did.  I was plenty happy with the Sox he sent.  Thanks for the trade Dustin, I look forward to more in the future.  Maybe we’ll get together again, maybe for a show sometime in A2.  Be sure to check out “No Relics Pulled”.

Topps Update Rack Pack

I picked up an Topps Update rack pack the other day.  As per my usual when I buy packs, never a White Sox.  But here are some of the interesting cards.

updatepack

I do like the Kimball Hank Aaron, how could you not, it’s Hank Aaron.  All above are available for trade, but note, I don’t have a huge amount of cards left to give out in trades so it’ll probably be a small trade.  But if your interested, let me know.  I would like some of the sparkley Sox or even the base cards from the update set.  I don’t have any yet.

I’ve shipped all my PC cards from my Diamond Giveaway site to myself so you’ll see those before too long here but I logged back in to see what I got with the above code card.

updatepack02

I’m glad it’s vintage, now I just have to flip it for a White Sox card.  I usually try to offer same year for same year.  I’ll let you know if I come up with anything.  I still have 11 other cards I’m trying to flip for other Sox cards.
