1973 Topps–Jim Wynn #185

I’m collecting the 1973 set, slowly but surely. This post is the latest in my quest for the completion.

  • Card Facts – Jim Wynn – Houston Astros – Card #185
  • Purchase Price – $.11 (Ebay lot, 40/$4.25)
  • On the back (toon) – Jim likes jazz music.
    • “Jim’s 117 runs in 1972 were 3rd most in majors and set new Houston record.  Jim himself held former club mark of 113 runs score in 1969.  He had 17 stolen bases.”
  • Signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent in 1962.
  • Debut – July 10, 1963.
  • 1963-1973 (Colt 45’s/Astros), 1974-1975 (Dodgers), 1973 (Braves), 1977 (Yankees), 1977 (Brewers)
  • Born in Cincinnati, OH
  • Attended Central State University.

Was a 3 time All-Star (1967, 1974-1975).  Was 2nd in Home Runs to Hank Aaron with 37 in 1967.  Led the league in walks in 1969 and 1976.  Spent the majority of his major league career in the outfield, mostly at center field.  He had 23 games between shortstop and 3rd early in his career.
