1981 Topps–Garry Maddox #160

I’m collecting the 1981 set, slowly but surely. This post is the latest in my quest for the completion.

  • Purchase Price – $0.05 (ebay lot – 100/$4.99)
  • On the back (toon, bottom left) – none

  • On the back – Garry had over 20 thefts each of the past 8 years.
  • Drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 2nd round of the 1968 amateur draft.
  • Debut – April 25, 1972.
  • 1972-1975 (Giants), 1975-1986 (Phillies)
  • Born in Cincinnati, OH

Won 9 straight gold gloves from 1975-1982 as a centerfielder.  All but 27 of his games were in centerfield and only 6 of the 27 were in right field.  Garry played in 6 postseasons, 2 World Series, winning one of them (1983), all with Philadelphia.
