PWE Love

JayBarkerFan’s Junk” has been PWE Bombing (that’s the term that’s being used) and I have been a recipient of his generosity with a couple of PWE’s.  It took me a little while to figure out who they were from, I even messaged Dennis from “Too Many Verlanders” & “Too Many Manninghams” because I know he’s traded with a bunch of people and still nothing.  I told him that all I knew is he was a Red’s supercollector because he sent me this.

pwe02

See, it says right there, Red’s super collector.  What?  Redus super collector?  Well that makes sense since it’s on a Gary Redus card.  Oh, the JBF makes sense too.  It’s all coming together.  Ok, so I’m a dumb ass, my bad.

pwe03

All 3 of these were new to the White Sox collection.  The Joel Davis is a traded series because I had already completed the team set from 1986, but not the traded.

pwe01

He even managed to hit the Paul Konerko collection with this beauty.

So big thanks to Wes over at “JayBarkerFan’s Junk” for the PWE Bombs.

2013 Topps Heritage White Sox

As per my new way of getting the latest cards, I purchased my 2013 Topps Heritage team set from Brent of “BrentAndBeccaEbay fame.

brent01

I do like these because, well you know, they look like vintage.

brent02

On top of this team set, it included the SP which I believe was Adam Dunn and Brent even threw in an extra Paul Konerko for the Paul Konerko Collection.

I’m finding this way to get my latest cards to be the cheapest route.  And Brent has been awesome with staying in contact with me about getting extra Konerko’s or inserts.  He was going to give me the Adam Dunn insert card as well but he didn’t end up with any extra, he was actually short on completing all his sets but that’s cool.  He has gone above and beyond as it is.

I was looking at purchasing the Gypsy Queen set from him but I haven’t come across the checklist to browse yet.

PWE love from 2 by 3 Heroes

As have a lot of you, I got a couple of PWE’s from Jeff over at “2 by 3 Heroes”.  He’s been sending me a bunch of them lately and they’ve been full of White Sox cards for my collections.

trade-2x3heroes05

We’ll start off with this 1985 Topps to add to that team set.

trade-2x3heroes03

A bunch of 1990’s cards.  I really like the original finest cards, not that I don’t like the newer ones either but they were pretty bad ass back in the day.

trade-2x3heroes04

He even sent this awesome UD X Die Cut of Paul Konerko.  I already had it in my Paul Konerko Collection so this one goes to the White Sox Collection.

trade-2x3heroes02

He also sent me these awesome 2013’s for the White Sox collection.  I’ve been picking up the 2013 parallel’s on COMC but haven’t shipped them yet so these are the first in my hands.  The bottom 2 Konerko’s replace the ones that I took out of my team set that I bought so the base card on the right completes the team set.

trade-2x3heroes01

He even sent me this Walmart parallel to go to the Paul Konerko collection.  Which is really starting to get up there in numbers, maybe I should do a post on updating my player collections.

Thanks Jeff, be sure to go to “2 by 3 Heroes” and let him know who you are and what you collect and you may get you some surprise PWE’s in your mailbox soon.

My inheritance

I’ve been busy on my other blog gearing up for the A to Z Challenge as well as entering the latest Dude Write contest and have neglected this blog.  Sorry about that, I do have a few things to post.  I went to my mom’s a couple of weeks ago to replace some pages that my stepfather had his cards in.  We broke out his cards a couple of months ago to look something up (I don’t remember what now) and noticed that about half his pages were the old pages and were all stuck together.  He found the cards when they moved into his house 10 years or so ago and he had them in a box.  At the time, I told him he should put them in pages and he did.  Since Cheri and I were over there replacing his old pages, I thought I’d snap a few pics of some cards that will hopefully be in my collection soon.

These are cards he purchased when he was a kid and collected.  He doesn’t have a lot per say, but he has a pretty big album of baseball and a smaller album of football.  Since I only really care about the baseball, that’s what the pictures are for.

They are in team order so that’s how I will display them here.  They would be a big boost to my vintage collection.

randall01

A couple of 1971 Topps Reggie Jackson’s.

randall02

I don’t think I have any vintage Hank Aaron cards, definitely no base cards so this 1973 Topps would fit in nicely in that set.

randall03

I was always a big fan of lefty Steve Carlton.  I like these 1971 Topps of him.

randall04

A 1972 Topps Bob Gibson.  He didn’t have a lot of 1972 Topps but he had some.

randall05

A photographed the whole page so you could see the 3 Ron Santo’s and the 2 Fergie Jenkins.  I really want his 1973 Topps cards to boost my set.

randall06

2 more 1973 Topps of Roberto Clemente.  I just realized I jumped from the Chicago Cubs to the Pittsburgh Pirates, must not have had much between the teams.

randall07

A 1971 Topps Johnny Bench, very nice.  Speaking of the Cincinnati Reds,

randall08

How about a 1973 Topps Pete Rose?  Definitely want these cards for my collections.

randall10

I actually already have the Luis Aparicio for his player collection but I’m not sure if I’ve filled it for the 1973 Topps set.  Really love the Carlton Fisk and Carl Yastrzemski.  Both players I followed later in their careers when I was old enough to follow baseball.

randall11     randall12

A couple of 1971 Topps and a 1973 Topps of Thurman Munson.  Yeah, he’s a New York Yankees but not everyone can be perfect.

But judging by the few cards I’ve shown you, you can see why I’m glad I’m on his good side.  He says they’ll be mine when he’s gone and while I can’t wait to have them, I don’t have a problem being patient either.

Completed Team Sets–2012 Bowman

This one was completed quickly.  Mainly because it was only 4 freaking cards.

completed-12bowman

It’s a decent looking set even, but only 4 cards annoyed me.  I understand the New York Yankees have a bigger fan base, but give them 12 cards and us 4.  I’d be even more pissed if I was a Houston Astros or San Diego Padres team.  They only had 3 cards total combined.

Vacation Pick-Ups #13–Luis Aparicio

When I was going through the vintage cards at the flea market, I kept pulling these cards out and could barely contain my excitement.  This collection got helped the most with my Vacation pick-ups.

ncaparicio04

Obviously these 2 didn’t come from the vintage boxes.  These were in the $.20 binders.  Both have vintage feels though.

ncaparicio03

I figured the first card was a Twinkie or Kellogs or something but is labeled MLB Promo.  It’s well loved, but it’s also a 1969 so that’s allowed.  I’m sure you can guess the card on the left,  A 1971 Topps for the Luis Aparicio collection.

ncaparicio02

You can add a 1965 Topps, 1966 Topps and a 1969 Topps to that collection as well.  These cards are awesome and in pretty good shape and even though he is with the Baltimore Orioles in these 3.

ncaparicio01

Last but not least, 2 from 1962 and a 1963 Topps.  Finally get to some vintage Chicago White Sox cards of Little Luis.  As you can probably tell, I had a great time with my cousin, hanging at the card shops and flea market.  I might have to make that trip again, just for the shops, sorry in-laws.

Vacation Pick-Ups #12–Tom Seaver

I even boosted my Tom Seaver collection while I was down south.

ncseaver03

Picked up this base and mini version from the Topps 206 set, I believe it’s 2009 but I don’t have the card in front of me at the moment.

ncseaver02

Some more newer cards.  The 1981 Topps reprint is a Topps Archives, the middle card is an UD Goudey, and the last card is one of those vintage collection reprints from Topps.

ncseaver01

Now these 3 aren’t reprints.  A 1980 Topps, 1985 Topps and I think (if I remember correctly) is a 1993 Action Packed.  It’s kind of pathetic that I didn’t have the 1985 Topps card already but what can I say.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the greatest pick-ups of all of the vacation pick-ups up till now.  Be sure to come back.

Vacation Pick-Ups #11–Michigan Wolverines

I was going to finish my player collections before moving on to my Michigan Vacation Pick-ups.  But with the final regular season game last night, I figured today was a good day to do it and put some thoughts about the season.  But you have to go to “Too Many Manninghams” to see it.  Click that link or the direct link.

The last 2 player collection post will continue the next couple of days.

Vacation Pick-Ups #10–Paul Konerko

I did manage to get some cards for my player collections as well.  I’ll start with Paul Konerko since his cards are the newest.

nckonerko01

My cousin Sluggo had these 2 cards waiting for me when I got back to his place. Some great rookie cards of Paulie in his Los Angeles Dodgers uniforms. Guessing by the #99 on his back, I’m guessing he hadn’t even made the team yet.

nckonerko02

Also got these 3 Chicago White Sox cards of Paulie.  Of course, you have to love the Blue Chrome card, it’s a must.  I paid $.20 for each of these as well.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s player – Tom Seaver.

Vacation Pick-Ups #9–1960’s

I even got some 1960’s for the Vintage Collection for $.20/each.

ncvintage08

Grabbed these 2 1969 Topps cards doubling my total cards for the set to 4.

ncvintage09

Ok.  Maybe I did pick these up for my other collections.  I didn’t think I had but 3 Chicago White Sox players and a Billy Williams later, I’m starting to think differently.  These 3 1968 Topps cards give me 4 for the set.  That’s right, I quadrupled my set with these 3 cards.

ncvintage10

Last but not least, this 1967 Topps card.  I picked it up even though it was a Cleveland Indians card.  This final card brings my 1967 Topps set to 1.  Yeah, that was my first one.  The vintage collection is definitely a long term goal.

But hey, I’m not done, I’ve got a few more posts for my player collections yet to come, and even a Michigan post for Too Many Manninghams.

Vacation Pick-Ups #8–1970’s

Unlike most of the 1980’s pick-ups, most of these were bought specifically for the Vintage collection.  Mainly because they were in $.20 binders.  I pretty much grabbed all vintage in those binders but oddly enough, they were mostly better cards and players.

ncvintage04

Do you see those awesome 1978 cards?  All of those for $1.  Look at the names, Jim Palmer, Gary Carter, Steve Carlton, Willie McCovey and Andre Dawson.  I don’t think I could have passed these up at $.20 even if I didn’t have the vintage collection to put them in.  These 5 1978 Topps put me at 45 cards for the set.

ncvintage05

A leaders card, but it has Reggie Jackson on it.  This card puts my 1976 Topps set at 127 cards.

ncvintage06

Obviously, the first 2 were picked up for the White Sox collection but I already had them.  The Los Angeles Dodgers rookies card on the other hand was picked up for the 1972 set.  It’s a Charlie Hough rookie, at least according to the card.  I don’t know if he was featured in the 1971 set or not.

ncvintage07

These were also picked up for other collections but I already had them.  The Pat Kelly I had actually grabbed 2 of them when I bought it, on accident, but it works for me.

Next up, yes, I even got some 1960’s for the vintage collection.

Vacation Pick-Ups #7–1980’s

Now we’ll start with the Vintage collection pick-ups.  A lot of these are cards I grabbed for my other collections and I already had them so they made it to the Vintage collection.

ncvintage01

The Carlton Fisk was picked up for the White Sox collection and obviously, the Tom Seaver was supposed to go to the Tom Seaver collection.  It was my 24th 1985 Topps and my 10th 1983 Topps.

ncvintage02

Here we have Tom Seaver and Carlton Fisk again.  But they go to the 1982 Topps set.  They give me 20 cards for that set.

ncvintage03

Also got a 1980 Topps and 1979 Topps card.  I paid $.20/each for both of these.  A Rod Carew for $.20, I wasn’t going to turn that down.  Even though it’s a record holder card, it still has George Sisler and Ty Cobb on it, not going to turn that one down either.  The 1980 card gave me 15 cards in that Topps set.  And the leaders card is the 18th of the 1979 set.

*note – I don’t know why I scanned these 2 cards together.  I think I completely spaced it out when I scanned these.

Next up, 1970’s for the vintage collection.

Vacation Pick-Ups #6–Autos and Relics

Even with all the awesome vintage I picked up (and you haven’t even seen it all), I did manage to find some cheap White Sox autos and relics.

nc01

I was pumped to get the Brent Lillibridge autograph.  I really liked him when he played for us.  He played everywhere and always gave 110%.  I have a few of Ryan Meaux autographs, I think he was supposed to be a stud at some point but never hit it big.

nc02

I grabbed thie Sergio Santos relic card because it has the vintage blue pinstripe jersey swatch.  I love the old jerseys.  And the Jim Thome relic because he was an all around good guy and it’s a pretty cool looking card.

Stay tuned tomorrow and I’ll start showing the Vacation Pick-Ups for the Vintage Collection.

Vacation Pick-Ups #5–1950’s

That’s right, I even picked up some great 1950’s White Sox cards while on my trip.

ncwsox19

Picked up this 1959 Topps rookie stars of John Romano.  Only my 4th card from the 1959 team set.

ncwsox20

This 1957 Topps Jim Landis rookie.  Only my 3rd card from the 1957 team set.

ncwsox21

That’s right, 7 cards from the 1954 Topps set.  These were the first cards of the 1954 set in the White Sox collection.  Now do you see why I got all excited about all the vintage White Sox cards I purchased.  But wait, there’s more.

ncwsox22

My first 1954 Bowman.  So with all the 1954 purchases, they all become the oldest cards in my White Sox collection.  I don’t even have a want list for the early Bowman sets like the one above.  I guess I never figured I’d have any.

So how’d I do on my vacation pick-ups for the White Sox collection?  I had a great time sorting through all the vintage.  But you haven’t even seen it all yet, I still have some vintage collection posts as well as a few player collection posts.  But before those, I’ll show you the few autos and relics that I picked up tomorrow.

Vacation Pick-Ups #4–1963-1960

That’s right, we aren’t done with the vintage yet.  This is where I really got excited, between this post and the next post.  I don’t usually get a chance to pick up this many vintage cards for my team sets.

ncwsox15

These were the first 2 1963 Topps added to the White Sox team sets so I was definitely pumped to get them.

ncwsox16

3 1962’s including another All-Star Rookie.  Everybody loves the wood set don’t they.  These 3 doubled how many I had from that year.

ncwsox17

Another set that today’s addition more than doubled what I had for that year.  !961 Topps Ted Kluszewski and a team card, oh yeah!

ncwsox18

6 1960’s added to another set which I’ve had a bunch of.  Although technically the World Series card isn’t part of the Sox team set but it’s got 3 White Sox players, I couldn’t resist.  Plus look at the other names here.  Another Ted Kluszewski, an Early Wynn and a Nellie Fox.  Some great additions to this set.  This gives me 27 cards for the team set, yet I still need 15 more so don’t get too excited.

Stay tuned for the 1950’s tomorrow.
