Today’s 9–Wilson Alvarez

I keep my White Sox collection by players last name.  When that player reaches 9 cards (a page), they get a post in the Today’s 9 series.  I just recently moved all my cards into alphabetical order so most of these posts are just catching up and making sure everybody get’s their due.

Card back info -

“Wilson is the first person born in the 70’s to play in the major leagues.  Failed to retire a batter in his only major league appearance.  Was acquired from Texas with Sammy Sosa and Scott Fletcher for Harold Baines and Fred Manrique” – 1990 Upper Deck

“Wilson became one of the youngest ever to throw a no-hitter when he beat the Orioles 7-0 on August 11, 1991 at age 21.  It was only his second major league start (his first was in ‘89) and came a day after his recall from Double-A Birmingham.  A hard thrower with a live 90-mph fastball and an exceptional curve.  Wilson has an air of confidence on the mound.  He is counted on by the Sox to be a regular starter in ‘92” – 1992 Score

“On August 11, 1991, Wilson pitched a no-hitter against the Orioles in only his 2nd major league start.” – 1993 Fleer Flair

“Alvarez went 7-3 with a 2.45 ERA in the second half including a 5-0 mark with a 1.03 ERA in September and October” – 1994 Upper Deck

“Alvarez was AL Pitcher on the Month in September, going 5-0 with a 0.93 ERA” – 1994 Upper Deck Collector’s Choice

“The much improved Alvarez hurled a no-hitter on August 11, 1991 against the Baltimore Orioles during his rookie campaign.” – 1997 Circa

Cards in Sox uniform that I own currently – 10

Sorry about the word verification, but blogger sucks at filtering out the comments as of late. As bad as their last update is.
