Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Tribe Cards haul

I got another package in the mail today, it was my cards from last years contest/game (?) that David over at TribeCards has run for the last few years. While I got 39 cards total, I only needed 8 cards from the package. I did grab 3 of the latter to send out in PWE's as well so the other 28 cards will probably go to my cousin. Let's take a look at what David pulled for me.

First we'll check out the new White Sox Collection cards.

2014 Topps Heritage
2014 Topps Heritage
2014 Topps Allen & Ginters
2013 Topps Heritage
Some Heritage and an Allen & Ginters from the last few years. All were needed for those various team sets.

1992 Topps Stadium Club
1992 Topps Stadium Club
I even got a couple of Stadium Club from the early 90's that I needed.

I even managed to get a couple of cards for my player collections.

2014 Topps Allen & Ginter's Mini
One card for the Steve Carlton collection. I also received the base of that card but I actually already had it.

2014 Topps Heritage Chrome Purple Refractor
Of course, I have to save the best for last. This is probably considered my hit of the package. I love the colored refractors. I should say I love the way they look, because I do hate that they add so many more cards that I have to add to my collections. If you know how I get my cards, you may find it odd (as I do) that I actually own the Heritage Chrome Purple Refractors of Chris Sale from 2013-2016. I guess it helps that as far as collectors go, Sale is underrated. That is just fine with me, makes it easier for me to collect his cards.

Newest Additions - White Sox prospects

I have randomed them and let's see what we got (unless you peeked at the title.) Sorry if a few are blurry, I didn't realize it when I edited them and I wasn't going to go back, find the cards and take new photos.

White Sox Collection (Bowmans)

These all came from dime boxes at the card show. One dealer obviously was a prospect chaser because he had 5 or 6 boxes of all Bowman stuff. That was it as far as cards, just Bowman. I went through it anyways figuring I could complete some of the team sets which I believe I did.

Be sure to check out my other 2 card blogs as well.

Just like it says, photos of baseball cards. The "Blog" currently sits at over 4400 cards featured and I add more weekly.

This "Blog" has photos of the cards from my PC's. I have all the cards that were featured on this blog over here and will be working on adding all of my cards.

Everything from current to vintage sports pictures, baseball cards and more.

COMC Rainbow’s #1

As I stated in my previous post, I picked up a bunch of the 2013 parallels during COMC’s spring cleaning post.

comc-beckham

I picked up the infamous Emerald parallel of Gordon Beckham.  These are pretty slick looking cards.

comc-youkilis

Also, picked up the Kevin Youkilis for under a buck.

comc-reed

I grabbed these 2 parallels of our closer Addison Reed.  Another Emarald and I assume the Target (red) parallel.

Come back tomorrow and I’ll show you some more rainbow pick-ups from the 2013 sets.

2013 Topps Heritage White Sox

As per my new way of getting the latest cards, I purchased my 2013 Topps Heritage team set from Brent of “BrentAndBeccaEbay fame.

brent01

I do like these because, well you know, they look like vintage.

brent02

On top of this team set, it included the SP which I believe was Adam Dunn and Brent even threw in an extra Paul Konerko for the Paul Konerko Collection.

I’m finding this way to get my latest cards to be the cheapest route.  And Brent has been awesome with staying in contact with me about getting extra Konerko’s or inserts.  He was going to give me the Adam Dunn insert card as well but he didn’t end up with any extra, he was actually short on completing all his sets but that’s cool.  He has gone above and beyond as it is.

I was looking at purchasing the Gypsy Queen set from him but I haven’t come across the checklist to browse yet.

Completed Team Sets–2012 Bowman

This one was completed quickly.  Mainly because it was only 4 freaking cards.

completed-12bowman

It’s a decent looking set even, but only 4 cards annoyed me.  I understand the New York Yankees have a bigger fan base, but give them 12 cards and us 4.  I’d be even more pissed if I was a Houston Astros or San Diego Padres team.  They only had 3 cards total combined.

Completed Team Sets–2012 Topps Heritage

teamset2012toppsheritage01

I completed the pseudo-63’s as well.  I don’t know if I have all of the rookie stars cards or not but technically they aren’t part of the actual team set anyways.

teamset2012toppsheritage02

You see a 2nd Addison Reed floating head on another Rookie Stars card which is why I said I don’t know if I have them all.  On top of that he got a solo card as well.  Topps must have really liked him.  I do like having a team card with the set.  I like that Topps are bringing them back.  It doesn’t have to be a team shot but any kind of card to represent the whole team is cool with me.

Completed Team Set–2012 Topps

teamset2012topps01

This is the first of 3 2012 Completed Team Sets that Jeff at “2 by 3 Heroes” finished for me.  This one, the base set, being the biggest of the 3.

teamset2012topps02

I remember the Brent Lillibridge catch and it’s great to see it on cardboard.  As a matter of fact, if you click his name, I’m pretty sure I posted the picture after he made it.

teamset2012topps03

And we finish off the Surfboard set, which I believe “Night Owl” dubbed it.  Any 2012 set is great for me to complete because I never bought a pack of cards in 2012

And in case you forgot, I don’t include the update set since they use a different number system.  I count that as a set on it’s own.

Box Break–My Cardboard Mistress

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress04

One thing I love about Spankee, is his blog title.  “My Cardboard Mistress” is so true, probably for most of us and I’m jealous that he came up with it first.  But on to the cards.

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress01

All of these were new to the White Sox Collection.  Being as I haven’t opened a pack of 2012 cards yet, I definitely appreciated the Chris Sale bowman.  The Jim Thome card on top is numbered to 699.  Really like the Addison Reed purple refractor and the Upper Deck Spectrum’s at the bottom.

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress03

Spankee even managed to hit a couple of player collections with the above Heritage Luis Aparicio for the Luis Aparicio Collection.

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress05

Also come Paul Konerko’s that I didn’t have including a 2003 Topps Gold.  Both cards are new to the Paul Konerko Collection.

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress02

And what ends up making it a great break is when you manage a hit, I actually got 2.  I said above how much I like the Spectrum cards and a jersey card of Jim Thome with a pinstripe peaking out is pretty great.  And I really loved the Tadahito Iguchi autographed card.  I believe this was my first hit, let alone autograph of his.  He was an integral part of the 2005 World Championship team.

Great break from “My Cardboard Mistress”, thanks Spankee.

Trade with Sluggo

My cousin and I have sent cards back and forth before.  He purchases cards all the time and send some of his good luck my way some days.

trade-sluggo05

Lots of White Sox stars first year cards.  I’d say rookies but I’m not sure if there was a fleer Robin Ventura in the 1989 set and I’m too lazy to look.  I know there was a Topps.  I was surprised I didn’t have the Frank Thomas rookie.  And I don’t want to know about the Sammy Sosa.  Not a big fan of his, but it’s a Sox card, so I needed it.

trade-sluggo06

He sent me a bunch of cards but I highlighted these because they were cool.  Always love a Michael Jordan in a Sox or in this case, a minor league Sox uniform.  The Carlton Fisk is a fan favorites but the 1983 Topps has memories for me.  I don’t remember what the one on the right is because I scanned these a few weeks ago.  But it scanned beautifully, it’s some kind of a holographic card.  I’ve seen team logos with 1991 Upper Deck like these but not actual player cards.

trade-sluggo07

Lots of 2012’s that I needed.  I’ll have to look and see if any of these complete any team sets.

trade-sluggo01

He even hit my Tom Seaver collection with these 2 cards.  Not sure what the Front Row series is, but they are cards and that’s all that matters to me.

trade-sluggo02

He also sent this purple refractor for my Paul Konerko collection.  I know I’m slow but the Topps Chrome really are growing on me.  I used to just see them as a copy of the flagship, but I’m really starting to like them now.  The colored refractors make them even better, except that it’s that many more cards that I have to get for my collections.

Thanks sluggo, I’d direct you to his blog, but I can’t get his lazy ass to start one.  That’s too bad because he comes across some great cards that he could be sharing with all of us.

I also got some Michigan Wolverines cards from Kevin (that’s his real name), you can check those out over at “Too Many Manninghams”, or you can click here to go directly to the post.

Box Break from JABO’s

I got in another couple of box break over at “JABO’s”. One for 2004 Topps Pristine, 2004 SP Prospects, 2008 UD Spectrum, and 2012 Gypsy Queen.  And another for 2 boxes of 2012 Topps Finest.  Plus I purchased a few relics from Kyle so all that is thrown into this post.

trade-jabo02

I liked these cards, they are pretty shiny and cool looking.  And as I’m looking at the scan, I got 2 Jim Thome’s.  Oops.

trade-jabo03

More shiny from the box break.  The couple of cards at the top Kyle threw in for me for some Detroit Tiger cards that he needed from the break.

trade-jabo04

The Dewayne Wise on the left is from the box break, I didn’t even realize that Wise had a Glove Stories card but I do now because I have the mini.  The Frank Thomas rookie is another card Kyle threw in.  I would have guessed I had this but apparently I didn’t.

trade-jabo01

Once again, I didn’t do my homework before I signed up for the break.  2 boxes and this was all I got.  Although I got some trade cards for a couple of the other team as well as a couple that are going to another trader.  So I guess it wasn’t as bad as I initially thought.  I ended up with some duplicates of the other team but none of the Sox.  I could have used another Paul Konerko for each of the collections.

trade-jabo05

Magglio Ordonez relic, yes please.  Thanks Kyle.  I like those Upper Deck relics that show their rookie cards on half the card.  The other two Allen & Ginter relics I purchased from Kyle for $3/piece which is usually my max on relic cards when I get them on Ebay unless it’s something I really wanted.  I liked these 2 relics though because the Carlos Quentin piece has a green stripe so I assume that’s from their annual Half-Way to St. Patrick’s day game where they wear green jerseys.  And the Gordon Beckham piece is blue so I assume it’s from one of their throwback jerseys.

Thanks Kyle, be sure to check out “JABO’s” for all kinds of card related content.  He’s always got something going on.
