Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Last cards of 2023

When I met up with Kevin before the show last weekend, he brought me a bunch of cards that he pulled from his sorting duties plus he picked up a collection. It gave me a milestone tonight, well, technically, last week. We'll go through the cards first.

I didn't know what these were but upon looking them up on TCDB, they are the 2005 Champions from Danbury Mint, they each came in plastic cases that I had to use scissors to free them from. I would have preferred to get some of the top names (4 of them are PC's) but they are still pretty cool.

A few oddball stuff from the earlier days of my collecting. The first 2 are from Coca-Cola, then Toys 'r' us. The bottom row is Denny's followed by a Fleer sticker back.

A couple of scans of newer cards as well. Rookies and stars, even an old coach. I didn't realize how many of those Chrome anniversary cards they put out for each team as I keep getting more and more of them. I have 235 of Tim Anderson, 154 of Lucas Giolito and 278 of Jose Abreu.

He also gave me a team card which I don't get too often anymore. I really need to pick up more of these Heritage team cards. I always forget about them until I see one.

Some more old school Strawberry's. A Fleer mini set and another Denny's Grand Slam of him. These 2 give me 159 of Darryl.

I also received a later Dwight Gooden. This gives me 164 cards of Doc K.

2 more of our now former closer. As I said, I keep getting these Chrome Platinum Anniversary cards. These 2 give me 39 cards of Liam. I hope he lands back on his feet.

Another Chrome Anniversary, this time of Eloy. This is my 212th card of Jimenez.

I'm not sure how I didn't have that Jim Abbott, I've probably skimmed right past hundereds of them doing my sorting and thought I already had it. It is my 288th card of him. You also see I did get 1 of my PC players from those card from Danbury Mint which I was happy to see. This is my 387th card of Buehrle.

I thought I had this one as well but it's apparently the silver parallel. I can't imagine how many parallels I went past before I used TCDB. This is my 127th card of our current coach.

2 more former Wolverines picked up. I have a bunch of Charles Woodson in the maize and blue because Panini pumps out a few a year. This is my 59th card of Woodson. I picked up another of Taco as well, this parallel is my 27th of him.

Another of PK, nice. I've picked up a few of him in the last month or so which is great. Another Chrome Platinum as well. This is my 763rd card of Konerko.

I told you at the beginning that I hit a milestone on my last pickups of last year. These 41 cards put me over 10,000 cards added to my collection in 2023. 10,016 to be exact. As I've said in previous posts, I've done that by spending less than half of what I did in 2022. I spent just over $1100 in 2023 as compared to just over $2100 to get just under 2400 cards in 2022. I would say it was definitely a byproduct of all the free cards I get from sorting.

As I've also said above, these were the last cards that I received in 2023, I logged them in (which is the day I consider them received) on New Years Eve day.

Colorful Friday

The World Baseball Classic has got me so ready to watch the Sox. I just got to figure how I'm going to do that since I cancelled my cable. I'd pay for a MLB package if they would get with the times and not black everything out. I'm not sure why the MLB is so stubborn to change their policies.

Enough about baseball, at least for a week or so. Today's post is former Wolverine football post. It'll be a quicky as I have some things to do before going to bed as early as I do for work. I have to get up early to get up to Lansing for the card show tomorrow.

The top scan is from my latest Sportlots package and the bottom card is from my LCS. Lots and lots of color.

These 9 cards give me 24 cards of Chris.

I picked up this at my LCS as well, well technically, I pulled it out of his box of cards in my card room but I still got it from the LCS.

This card of Hurst gives me 21 of Moe.

These also came from that LCS box. The one on the left is #'d to /99 and the one on the right is to /199. These 2 are also rookies. I just realized, every card on this post is a rookie card.

These 2 cards give me 26 cards of Taco.

There is a lot of shinyness on this post

Taco Tuesday

The men's team seems to finally be on track and they picked a good time by beating IU. If only because it gives me bragging rites with the GM of our plant. I think he might be hiding from me though, I haven't seen him all week.

Today's post randomly fell on Tuesday which worked great for the title.

First up, we have the pro version of Taco. Lots of running photos.

A couple of Maize and Blue cards as well to go with the draft day card. Have I mentioned that I hate it when they take the wings off the helmet? Technically, there are other schools that use it (Delaware) so I wouldn't think it would be a trademark thing so why cut it out?

These all came in my previous Sportlots package.

Anyways, off my soap box for today. These 12 cards double my cards of Taco giving me 24 total of him.

Happy Birthday - Taco Charlton

Taco was born on this day in 1994, making him 27 today.

NFL Debut - September 10th, 2017 (Cowboys)

Years Active -

  • 2017-2019 (Cowboys)
  • 2019 (Dolphins)
  • 2020 (Chiefs)
  • 2021 (Steelers)
Cowboys (rookie)

I only have Cowboys cards so that's all you get in that section.

Cards on TCDB - 570 cards

Cards I have - 12 cards

This is the only action shot I have of him in a pro jersey.

Where they came from -

  • Ebay (4 cards)
  • Sportlots (3 cards)
  • Too Many Verlanders (3 cards)
  • Card Shows (1 card)
  • Sluggo (1 card)

I have 3 cards in Michigan gear (minus a couple you'll see next).

I also have 3 autographs but you've seen 2 of the cards above just without the auto, and even the 3rd as they used the same picture.

On a side note, I learned on Wikipedia while making this post that he's named Taco because his mom is a Taco Bell afficionado. I don't know what that means but I thought it was cool.

Happy Birthday Taco!

*All cards shown above are in my collection but the photos/scans are from TCDB.

Taco Sunday

Sluggo and I headed to a card show, an actual show that was local for us. Most of them we go to are an hour or so away. It was the first one this guy was setting up and it wasn't great but we've been making some local connections which may be good for our eventual shop. I didn't buy anything and Sluggo only spent $3. Most of the dealers didn't have prices on the cards which is a big nope from us. I hate asking about every card, I'm not going to do it. I'll just keep walking. When we got back to his place though, he had a package in the mail that he bought from a guy back in NC. We had more fun going through that to be honest. You can see the some of the contents here.

For today, I'm hitting up a collection that hasn't been posted about since Christmas Eve, 2019. I didn't realize I had so many PC's that I haven't added to in awhile. I guess that's partly because I have so many of them.

I picked up these 3 on Sportlots, the Certified is #'d to /999. It's always nice to add a serial number when I paid less than $.50 for the card. All 3 of these are from 2017, he was with the Chiefs recently but I believe he just signed with the Steelers to play with a couple other Michigan guys there.

These 3 give me 11 cards of Taco.

A Butt Taco

I got a couple more former Wolverines in the mail today. Both from the same set, both from the same seller.

I feel sorry for Jake because I always use his last name in the title of my blog post and it isn't usually in a good way. I only paid $.25/shipped for this and it is my 14th card of Jake.

I also picked up this Taco card but it is only my 7th of his. I did only pay $.24/shipped for it so I was happy to pick up both these cards for under $.50.

Merry (late) Christmas

Since I got no mail today and I had time to get this post up, here's a belated post.

I'm way late on this post but I got these cards before Christmas, which was fitting since he had them labeled as a Christmas gift. In my defense, I went to Florida on Christmas night and was there for just under a week. I have no excuse since then though. I know Dennis has sent a bunch of these out, that's what he does, he's very generous. I'm probably the last to say thanks, because I'm slow like that.

We'll start off with the White Sox collection cards. You know when Dennis is giving you cards, you gonna get some hits. I'm not talking about Dunn either, he was a flop. I recognize all 3 of the auto's which is always a good thing. I really like the Yolmer (Carlos) card because he still plays for us and I like him.

I don't about you all but I always receive cards of Larkin as well since we both collect him. He's a former Wolverine so why wouldn't we. I remember those SI posters, they were cool back in the day just because they were different. Now a days you get so much stuff in packs they aren't quite as exciting.

He also sent me a couple of a Tier 1 player which I don't get very often. They are both Rediscover Topps which I guess for collector's like us, they really aren't that big of a deal because there is a chance we already have them but I understand the concept.

Well you know I'm going to get some Wolverine cards. I definitely like seeing some Taco cards because I don't have very many of him, yet.

Last but definitely not least, an auto of Mike Hart, who would be my favorite former Wolverine. I have a bunch of his auto's but this one was new to me, even by sight it didn't look familiar. I like the looks, it's a sharp looking card.

As always, thank you Dennis. You can check out his stuff at Too Many Verlanders as well as Too Many Manninghams. Get in good with him, he's a great trader to have on your side.
