Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

A break for Sox

I got some time finally. There's been a lot of Birthday's lately and the days there isn't, I wasn't feeling it. I'm in a little better mood now since I have the next 3 days off work. The card show on Saturday got cancelled as well so I get 3 days at home, sleeping in. I did hit my LCS yesterday. I had to go to conference in town and it finished at 3 instead of my usual getting off work at 4:30. It was also right up the road from the LCS. I dropped off the stuff I sorted last week and since I had 4 days off, I went ahead and grabbed 4 3 row boxes of cards to sort so that's what I'll probably be doing for those 3 days. After I sleep in that is. I did pick up 1 card at the LCS so I'll get that logged and scanned tomorrow. Since I don't have it ready, you'll get another random post but this is a team post. Although they don't play much like a team which should tell you which team since I follow 2 and they are both at the complete opposites of the spectrum.

Fred at work gave these to me. I know some of them he picked up in a quarter box at the Shipshewana show. Some of the others he brought to me at work. I love the look of the cracked ice so you know I love the Sapphire set.

I got these from sorting packs. The flagship is series 2 as I've already completed series 1. The 4 Prizm are my first from the 2023 set.

All of these last 3 scans are list players that I sorted for the LCS. Hall of Famers are automatically on the list so Frank Thomas and Tim Raines are in and Bo Jackson and Sammy Sosa are popular players so they are on it.

The real announcement is with the addition of those 13 cards of Frank Thomas (and the one further above) I have officially hit 1000 cards of him. It's my first player to 1000 and it's not even a PC of mine, he just has that many White Sox cards. My official total right now is 1003.

These 6 cards are from Kevin. The top 4 came from a box he bought at the Mishawaka show, I skimmed through it and pulled some cards for myself. The bottom 2 are from his sorting of the LCS stuff.

Do you remember the Vintage stuff I picked up at the Plymouth show? I've already shown some of it, this was also on his table so I picked it up as well. I liked Madrigal before we sent him off to the Cubs plus it's a rookie auto and as I mentioned before, I like the Sapphire set.

I'll be back tomorrow with another birthday post before I finally get some time to post other stuff.

Quarry Sox

Just a quick post tonight. I've been spending time at my cousin's helping him sort cards so I haven't had as much time to work on my posts.

As many of you know, Cards From the Quarry, gives away free serial numbered cards on Sundays. I know this, but I still miss out on cards all the time because I forget until Monday when I go through my regular reading. I did manage to get a couple though. Technically, they aren't free but all you have to do is send a card he needs off his wantlist. Easy peasy!

Johnny sent me this rookie and all-star. I actually thought I had the Micah Johnson but I looked and I do have a purple card just like that, it's even numbered to /250 but it has an autograph on it so I was close.

The Chris Sale, 1981 Donruss look-a-like, is also a 2015 but it's #'d to /299 as you can see if you look hard enough.

It's only my 15th card of Micah but he didn't amount to much of the hype he had. Sale on the other hand, is up to 153 cards.

Thanks Johnny!

Quarry Cards

A quick post before I head to bed.

As I'm sure most of you know, Johnny over at Cards From the Quarry hosts a Sunday PWE Trade Bait where you can pick cards (he posts one from every team) and he will PWE them to you in exchange for something off his want list (or other cards he can trade). I selected a bunch and got them in a few envelopes. I had to go to Sportlots to grab stuff for him because I didn't have anything in my very limited trade box.

Everyone of these beauties are numbered. 1 current member (Engel) and 1 World Series Champion (Jenks). Here are the numbers breakdown. 28th card of Jenks, 14th of Engel, 3rd card of Carter, 6th of Fry, 53rd card of Peavy and 151st card of Sale.

A couple more in different envelopes. This boxey Frazier and an Icons Dye. I really thought I had the Dye when it came up but apparently not. I think I have a Thome from the same set that's numbered. It is my 33rd card of Frazier and 89 cards of Dye.

I really appreciate these serial numbered cards because I tend to buy cheap which means, serial numbered are usually out of my price range.

More Sox Needs

I came home with a few more cards from Fred. I think I have about half of them out of the 7. A couple were 2021 which I know I don't have, at least not in hand as I was in a box break at Nachos Grande but I haven't had the cards sent yet.

Today you get to see some more White Sox cards from 2017.

You just saw the Moncada version of this card a few days ago, now you get the Matt Davidson one. This is my 28th card of our former DH.

I picked up a few Donruss as well. I still need a couple more for the team set but these went a long way to getting me close. As you can see, the Frank Thomas on the left is the black & white variation. The Melky Cabrera is my 10th, my 26th of Frazier and my 545th and 546th of the Big Hurt.

I picked up the Lopez on the right which leaves me 1 card short for the team set. The prizm refractor on the left was just a bonus I ran across searching for the other one. These 2 give me 26 of Lopez.

I like the top 3 just because I don't have many cards of some of the old school players. The Appling (13 cards) the Fox (also 13 cards) and Lyons (4 cards) are pretty cool. I thought the Nellie Fox was a parallel because it was blue before I realized it was just blue. I would have this whole team set except I need the Moncada. Oddly enough, I have the variation but not the base, go figure. Since I don't have many of the old school, we'll change that with the numbers of those last 2 guys. The Chris Sale is my 150th and is also a short print. The 2 cards of the MVP Abreu are my 136th and 137th of him.

Winna Winna

You got to see a rare occurrence the other day when I showed cards from a blogger other than Jeff or Dennis, today you'll get another. Nothing against bloggers not sending me cards, it's just I have very little to trade with so when people ask to trade, I tell them straight up, I just don't have anything to trade with. Some will send cards anyways knowing they won't get much, if anything, back. Brian, however, held a contest that I won on random and he threw in some extra's for me.

He sent over these 3 Sox cards along with a couple of PC players that have already been shown. Those 2 Chris Sale's give me 149 cards of him. I mentioned before when I showed another Sega card he sent me that I had never had any of those before he sent them. I only have 9 cards of Melky but he wasn't with us for very long. I just looked, he was with us 2 years, it didn't seem that long.

So what card did I win in the Save Second Base contest?

That, my friends, is a pretty cool card. It doesn't technically go into my collections but I don't care, it does now. Did you notice the serial #?

For those of you asking, I do have a few cards that I keep that aren't part of any collections but I like them. This is by far the better of any of those cards, but I do have some. This is my 6th card of Lou, but the others all go into collections. 4 from the Vintage collection, 1 card that he shares with Carl Yastrzemski and this card.

Thanks for that cool card Brian, and thanks for all the bonus cards that went to my collections. Check out Collecting Cutch.

More than cards

If you remember a couple of posts ago, I said Jeff of 2x3 Heroes sent a huge package. Part of the reason it was huge was because he sent a lot more than just cards. While I'm going to show you a few of those items today, it certainly isn't all he sent. There's a couple more but they are mixed in on other posts.

First off he sent me a couple of cups, they might be tumblers, I don't know but they come at a perfect time. I have moved my card room as my daughter moved out and I'm looking for stuff to fill shelves so guess where these are going.

He also sent this sticker of Chris Sale from the Sox Kids Club. I remember signing up for all kinds of free stuff with all the teams when I was a kid. The whole page is like an 8x10, I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet.

Finally, he also sent this pocket schedule. These are those kinds of things that I wish I would have kept growing up. I didn't even think of them as collectibles. Last time he sent me a package he had included a couple of modern pocket schedules that I enjoyed but I really like this one. As you can tell, it's from 1990 which is the last year of Comiskey park.

While this is no where near everything he sent me, I still wanted to give him a shout out for this "extra" stuff. I really enjoyed it and the stuff above wasn't the best of it.

A couple of Sox

This post will have a lot of cards in it. A lot of White Sox cards. My cousin sent me 2 packages last month. These are the Sox cards from the second package that came towards the end of the month.

Those are all the cards from 2016. He sent me a bunch of the Holiday set but I already had a few. The only one I need now is the Abreu, to bad that Frazier don't count since Abreu is on it.

More Frazier and Abreu and some guys you don't see much on Sox cards. I'll definitely take the Zach Putnam as he is a former Wolverine. I should look and see who has played for Michigan and the Sox. Off the top of my head, I already collect Jim Abbott and Chris Getz. I know of Putnam and Clayton Richard as well. There's probably others, probably others I know but can't think of right now. One of these days I should do a list. I'm not sure where I can find something like that but I'll figure it out.

These are all from 2017. Those 4 Topps (Holland is from Update) finish off that team set except for the 2 SP's of Sale and Abreu. Speaking of Abreu, those couple of cards up there make 107 of his in my Sox collection.

These 4 are from 2018. Decent shot of Saladino's mustache.

A couple more of Vaughn who is supposed to be a big deal, my cousin has sent me most of the cards I have of him, these 2 give me 13 total. The Frank Thomas puts his cards at 528.

Last but not least, the 2020. He sent me a bunch of the Gypsy Queen as well but I had bought some of the Sox already but I needed all of those.

My 2 favorite teams

I may have started the week off right in the last post, but I got nothing until today. At least I finally got something. 2 envelopes, both with one team in each one.

I grabbed both of these from the same seller. I paid $.25/shipped for the Rutherford and $.39 for the Cease. It is my 4th card of Rutherford despite him still being in the minors and my 5th of Cease who is currently with the big club so I'm sure I'll definitely see more cards of him.

Since I started with White Sox cards, I'll post these that I picked up at Walmart as well. I bought a blaster of Topps Stickers for $10. I like that they are card sized since I won't be sticking them anywhere. The backs also feature another player so twice the chance of getting stuff for my collections. That was the thought anyways, I only ended up with 2 Sox and they were both on the front.

A past pitching stud and a future pitching stud, although neither are with the club at the moment. Kopech had Tommy John surgery  and is scheduled to be back next year and you should all know that Sale is with the wrong Sox now. Actually, I found it surprising that Sale was featured in a White Sox uniform, I even had to send in a correction on TCDB because it was listed as a Boston card. It is my 10th card of Kopech and my 148th card of Sale. If you divide the blaster with the $10 I paid, it equals to $.25 a card/sticker.

I picked up this former Wolverine for $.28/shipped. It is my 8th card of Chesson, this is the gold version of Leaf Draft. I'm slowly getting up to double digits on Jehu's cards.

Lots of Mail

Busy day in my mailbox today. I had 4 envelopes with 5 cards, technically 7 cards but 2 were dupes for a couple of reasons.

This was the last 2019 Heritage I needed for the team set, minus the SP's, which there are 5 just in the Sox team set, that's ridiculous. I picked this up for $.54/shipped. It is my 6th card of Palka.

I picked up this Sale, also for the Sox collection for $.33/shipped. It was listed as a refractor but I have no idea whether it is or not. I also won the Abreu but I apparently already have that one. It is my 147th card of the Condor.

Now on the football/Wolverine section.

This Denard card was listed as a 2013 Topps rookie, that was it. Once I had it in hand and went to log it into TCDB, I found out it was a Holiday Mega card. It came to me for $.53/shipped and is my 47th different card of his.

I grabbed my 11th Jake Butt card, I thought this looked familiar so I hesitated on picking it up but it doesn't show that I had it. I went to put it away and realized that I have the autographed version which is basically the same card except it has an autograph on it. I grabbed this for $.53/shipped. It goes in the Wolverines collection as well.

I also picked up my 6th card of big Mo for $.53/shipped. I actually won 2 of these for the same price from the same seller. I bid on them thinking I'd probably lose both and ended up winning them both.

Relic and an Auto

I got a couple of cards today, one from a defunct player collection but it's still a White Sox card so it still fits in. I ended up getting a relic and an auto today as well.

This would be the defunct player collection. I ditched it as he is now a Red Sox and to be honest, I just don't follow him anymore. The good news is the majority of that PC end up being a part of the White Sox Collection so they aren't actually going anywhere. This is the reason why I'm afraid to start new player collections of active players. Nobody stays with the same team for long anymore. I picked up this Sale relic for $1.06/shipped and it is my 146th card of Chris Sale.

I also picked up another auto of Amara Darboh. I say another because it's my 6th of his, autos and relics make up most of this player collection. This is my 16th different card of his and I grabbed it for only $2.03/shipped.

3 More, um, Sox?

I got two envelopes today with even more cards. All Sox cards but one was for the wrong Sox.

I picked up this Chris Sale for $.22/shipped. It's the wrong Sox card but it's still a Sale card and for under a quarter, I'll take it. It's listed as a Holo Refractor, who knows if it or not, there's so many different ones I get lost. It is my 143rd Chris Sale.

I also picked up a shiny Giolito for only $.45/shipped. It's a pretty slick looking card for the White Sox Collection. This one is listed as a X-Fractor, which I believe to be true. With the wonderful TCDB I can now tell you that it's my 8th card of Lucas even though he's not a player collection.

I also managed to pick up this All-Star Relic (not game-worn but festivity worn) card for $1.85/shipped. This is also for the White Sox collection as I don't have an Abreu collection but it is my 50th card of Jose.
