Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Rare pick-ups for me

I've been sitting around all day, not doing anything and even had the though, I should put out a post while I have time and I never did. Here it is, 10:30 pm and I just remember, oh yeah, I never put out a post. I'm a slacker.

The random decided to stick with the last posts theme of the team collection.

A whole lot of modern cards up there that I needed. I really like the Crochet's because when he comes back from his Tommy John surgery, I think he's going to be a big part of the bullpen next year. These all came from the cards that I was sorting for Sluggo.

These 2 scans come from Fred at work. I like the Gavin Sheets up there because like Crochet, I think he could help us win. I liked him in the little he played last year. I also like that 1992 Kellogg's team decal sticker page on the right side. I thought it was older than that when I got it but it's a 1992. I took it out of the package that carried it through the Frosted Flakes. A couple cards of our former first baseman as well, don't even get me started on that.

I also went through the $3/each or 4 for $10 box at my LCS. I picked up some PC players as well as some cards for the shop, I think it ended up being 16 cards total but these 5 were the only non player PC White Sox cards. A couple of Zack Collins, mainly because they are harder to find (Tek & a color parallel #'d /50), the Mendick because he's been decent for us. The Mags just because I haven't added any relics of his in awhile and the Stiever because it's a red parallel of Stadium Club, also numbered to /50. I also realized as I was typing this paragraph that 4 of those 5 don't play for us anymore. I think Stiever is still there.

I need to do that every so often, just hit the 4 for $10 boxes and grab some autos and relics.

Parallels and Yearbooks

The White Sox are on an off day but at least they are winning again. They've won the last 3, 2 of those a sweep over the Cubs which is always a good thing.

Speaking of...

First up, I have some 2022 cards that Fred brought to me. The first 2 Opening Day cards are no longer with us, not sad about Kimbrel, I was about Rodon. I also like that the Southside jersey is shown in the Abreu card. I do like the black pinstripes. I like picking up Hendriks cards as well, I love his passion for the game.

I picked up both of these at the LCS in the dime box. I like Abreu, Keuchel has really struggled the last couple of years.

These 2 stickers and a vintage Sox card came from Sportlots. I grabbed them from a seller that I only had 1 card picked out so I grabbed a few more on the cheap. If you would have asked me, I would have said I had the Bob Locker card, but apparently not.

These all came from the dollar boxes at the Shipshewana. Other than the Frank Thomas (90's insert) and the Tommy John (1969), they are all parallels. The Collins, Appling and Hansen are all numbered.

These 9 cards all came from Sluggo's boxes so they are all at least a couple bucks a piece. That first Abreu is a short print followed by a bunch more parallels.

The next 2 items I came across at the Shipshewana show. The dealer is the guy who runs the Plymouth show that we set up at. I really wanted them but I already dropped more money than I wanted at the show. I told him if he didn't sell them, to bring them to the Plymouth show the next week and I'd buy them.

I thought these were pretty cool. I couldn't wait to get to Plymouth and see if he still had them. They are pretty thick books. I don't have them in front of me but I'd guess about 30 pages or so. There isn't anything real fancy in them but they are still pretty awesome.

All coming together

Before I get started on today's post, I want to throw another blog at you. I've mentioned my cousin Sluggo here many times and he has moved up here and it's his dream to run his own card shop. He's starting a job in a week but he only plans on keeping it long enough to establish some work up here so he can buy a house. After that, he's going to open a shop. He's already looked at a few places but he wants to get a house first so he's not looking real hard yet. We made the decision to start listing stuff on Sportlots, right now it's all commons (over 13,000 cards) but it's a start. I'm helping with all the online stuff so I've spent a considerable amount of time listing all those cards and I have plenty more to list as I get the time.

Back to where I was going, I set up a few accounts for him on social media (including a blog) and I'm hoping to get some follows. He has the inventory to start a store and has some really awesome cards so I'm hoping to get over to where he's staying and click some pics and start posting more on social media. You can go to the blog - https://sluggossportscards.blogspot.com/ and check out the links in the first post. It's a pretty basic blog (and social media) at this point but I'm hoping to do more with them in the near future. Please give them a follow

Since my notepad that I keep my list of posts won't load up so I can't post it into the random, I'll pick one. Since we are talking about my cousin, I'll show some heritage that he gave me. Right now, I'm working for cards so I keep whatever I find in the common boxes that I want. A bunch of these are the SP's though so he let me pull those as well. He's bought me a couple of higher dollar cards at our last trip to the LCS, you'll see those when the random pulls them up.

We'll start off with the 2021. I had gotten some from Fred but these 4 were all new to my collection.

I let the pictures fall where they lay so we'll jump around a bit. These 3 I needed for the 2017 team set.

I needed all these for the 2020 set. They are all high numbers. The Seby Zavala is a SP, that wasn't supposed to be in there.

Here we have the short prints that he gave me. Minus the Seby up there that I scanned in the wrong one. They obviously like to put Abreu in the SP's every year.

We had MonDave, now it's SunDanny

I spent quite a bit of time on Sportlots today. I got a check for $50 from my mother-in-law for Christmas so I decided to spend a bunch on cards. My first thought was that I could buy some higher priced cards since I never do that but I just can't beat the amount of cards when I can buy them cheap. The plan was to spend $10 on Tier 1 cards, $10 on White Sox cards and $10 on whatever set I was closest to completing.

I finished off the rest of the Konerko's that I needed under $.50 and it was just over $10, I went to the 2017 Sox sets and ran all the way until Topps before hitting just over $20 and than I completed the next set in the Vintage collection that I was closest to and it ended up being $30.63. I was impressed it ended so close to $30 but by the time I subtracted my loot earnings, it ended up at $29.95. Perfect! I'm going to wait until next Friday to ship everything (I already have 156 cards in my box waiting), that'll give them a few days to ship stuff and add to it before I ship. I have the week off after Christmas so that'll give me some good time in the card room.

Today's random is only 1 card and it, once again, came from Jeff at 2x3 Heroes. This actually wasn't part of the big package he sent. He also sent me this card and a few others in a small envelope because he picked up 2 of these.

This is only my 5th card of Danny but it's my first auto so that was an awesome envelope from Jeff. Danny is one of those players I'm setting aside to see if I like him enough to start a player collection. I don't like starting new collections of players that may not be here for long. Dane Dunning was also in that side collection, and he just got traded.

That title could have been worse, I could of used his last name.

2020 Panini Sox

This is the last of the 2020 Sox team collections posts this month. Apparently the random wanted to knock them all out in fail swoop. I still have a bunch of player collection posts coming though so I'm far from finished for the month.

This will be a no logo post though.

Up above I grabbed 3 players of both the Prizm and the Select. The Abreu on the bottom is a little weird. The only white jersey like that is their 1983 copies and those have red and blue so I'm not sure why they took all the color out. Maybe it clashed with the background. I'm nowhere close on those team sets. The Select shown are the only ones I have from that set. I have 4 cards of Keuchel, 6 cards of Grandal, and 118 of Abreu (he might have been here longer.) I paid $.18 for all of the above.

Next up, we have the Diamond Kings. I like that they brought back the Diamond Kings but I hate that they are pretty much the same every year. Not much difference at all. This is only my 4th of Mendick, my 16th of Collins, and 532 of the Big Hurt (again, he might have been here a little longer.) I picked these up at a quarter a piece.

2020 Topps Sox Needs

Wow! Didn't realize I hadn't posted in 5 days. See what happens when you go back to work. Stupid responsibilities.

Today's random came back with some more 2020 Sox. I seem to be on a team collection kick right now, I was on Sportlots last night and started purchasing 2019 Sox needs. I guess I'll just work down the years every week or two. I also made some purchases on baseballcardstore.ca, trying to complete another set for the Vintage collection. I also threw some 80's Sox needs on that order.

Today's post will be the Topps portion.

All those 2020 Topps are from Series II as I hadn't purchased any. I'm only the Luis Robert short (big surprise), minus all the short prints that is (all 8 of them). The short prints are ridiculous, there are 4 different ones just of Robert. I paid $.18 for each of the above.

In a familiar story, all of these Big League cards would complete the team set, except I need the Luis Robert. I also ran across the Orange version of Grandal for a quarter so I grabbed it. I paid $.18 each for the rest.

I picked up a couple of the Chrome versions as well. Being as Chrome is popular, these are the only 2 I have so a long way from that team collection. It does amaze me that I can pick up the Abreu on the cheap considering he is having a MVP season but he reminds me a lot like Konerko was to us. Very under rated for many years. I don't remember Konerko having a season like Abreu is now but still, same concept. He flies under the radar and they keep pitching to him. It works for us. I paid $.18 each for both of those.

I also paid $.18 for this Yasmani Grandal. I actually grabbed 6 from the Finest team set but the rest were in player collections so you'll see them later, and probably already saw a couple. I'm still 3 short of this team set. I'm sure you know who one of those are.

More White Sox

I've been slacking on my posting. I keep falling asleep fairly early, I'm too old for 10 hour days. This will be my last post until next week as this is our annual Father's Day camping trip.

I read today where they may have a season yet. I'm sure I'll read tomorrow where there's no chance. I'm not even sure we should bother with one at this point. Don't get me wrong, I want to watch some baseball, but it seems kind of pointless now. We'll see what happens.

Today's post are even more White Sox cards so we'll just get to it.

We'll start off with some of Fulmer, he hasn't really grown on me yet, he's been pretty inconsistent. These 3 cards make 28 of his.

A few more odds and ends. You'll see the Dunning again later.

Last but not least, a bunch of Gypsy Queen. Up until the last couple of months, I was way behind on the last few years of GQ but I've been picking them up a lot lately. These 4 base leave me one short of the complete team set, minus the 3 SP's.

All the above cards came from my cousin's packages to me.

These 6 came from Sportlots, all 6 were under $.50, most were only $.18. All newer cards, if I'm not looking for something in particular, I look for the 2020 cards when I start shopping on Sportlots.

Also nabbed these 2 cards from Brian over at Highly Subjective and Completely Arbituary on his Free Card Fridays. They were 2 different Fridays so they were separate packages. The Frank Thomas is an odd looking card and the Dunning is the yellow border parallel. Thanks to Brian and all you others doing the free card posts. I'm generally to late to get in on most.

That's all for today, hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm looking forward to kicking back and doing nothing for 3 days.

More 2020

* I put my March purchases on random for today's post.

I received a package from Nachos Grande today. He had sent me a DM to Twitter about some White Sox cards he had left over from his Christmas Giveaway and asked if I wanted them. Hells yeah! I've opened it but haven't gone through it yet, probably tomorrow. I'm hoping I have something decent to send back even though he said I didn't need to.

Today's post is fitting as I've been looking a ton of White Sox cards lately while sorting all I have.

I picked up all these 2020 Donruss cards on Sportlots as well. I paid a quarter or less each for all these cards. I'm not a huge fan of logo less cards but I do like that they brought Donruss back, even if they aren't that flashy.
