Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

2019 Team Sets

So the Sox are in the news again. The horrible hiring of Tony LaRussa is kicking them in the ass as it should because as I said, it was horrible. I'm hoping the DUI is enough to void his contract and we can move on from this mistake.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I went through all the sets in 2020 and 2019 and looked to see what Sox I need. I'll eventually move down to 2018 and keep going but for today, you get some 2019.

These are from the Bowman Heritage Prospects set. These 2 (and a PC not show) only make up half the team set. Dane Dunning on the left and Zack Collins on the right. Dane Dunning looks like he might have a bright future ahead of him. I'm not sure what's going to happen with  Zack Collins at this moment with 2 catchers above him but I'm guessing that McCann will probably be gone and he'll be our number 2. This is my 19th card of Zack Collins.

These are from the Bowman Draft & Chrome Prospects (have I mentioned that I hate Bowman). We have another Dane Dunning (19th card of him). I don't know much about Thompson (5 cards) or Pilkington (2 cards) but I know Micker Adolfo (2 cards) is supposed to be another one of our young studs. Something else that I know is the top 2 cards complete the Bowman Draft Sox team set and the bottom 2 complete the Chrome Prospects Sox team set.

I might have a few more of this guy than those guys above. This lone A&G of the MVP (hopefully) completes that team set as well. I actually bought this the same time I added a few others but the seller was a little slower shipping it to Sportlots so it came in the next months package. This is my 132nd card of Pito.

These 3 cards come from the Update set and they finish off that team set. You'll see the Anderson at the bottom again when I do his PC page. If I remember correctly, I didn't realize it was Timmy when I scanned it so you get to see it twice. As for Yonder (13 cards) and Leury (7 cards), Garcia got the better end of the deal as we picked up his option as he is a do all and play anywhere kind of guy and Yonder didn't do so well and got designated for assignment.

These 3 cards came from Baseballcardstore.ca and the rest of the cards in this post all came from Sportlots.

These 4 also complete the Opening Day team set so I did pretty well with this posts cards. Out of the 4 cards above, only Rodon (44 cards) is even still with the team and he missed most of 2019 and part of this year with Tommy John surgery. I liked Avi (32 cards) when he was with us but he battled a lot of injuries. Palka (14 cards) and Davidson (26 cards) had their moments when they displayed their power, but ultimately, neither could sustain it for long periods of time.

I don't know if I have more 2019 cards coming from Sportlots or not, guess we'll see next month.

2019 Sox needs

I'm back and with some new cards. I mentioned that I received a box from Sportlots and that I was off of work so I'd be able to work on it, what I didn't think about was that my son uses my card room desk to do his online schooling so I can't use my room during the day. He came out to do his lunch break and I snuck in there and grabbed the cards and my laptop and went downstairs to my old desk so I could get them all logged and then when he was done with school, I went back in there and scanned them and put them away in my books. So eventually I got it completed.

This month you'll see a lot of White Sox cards because for a couple of weeks, I went through TCDB and searched for Sox needs in each 2020 set and then 2019. I haven't gotten through all of 2019 yet but I did receive some of them and that's today's post.

The Abreu above is sadly the first card of the Bowman Chrome team set that I got because the Sox are hot and their prices are going up so that was the only one I grabbed cheap at $.18. The Thompson however, only leaves me needing 1 more of the Chrome Draft Picks. I picked it up for $.35

These 2 of the Bowman's Best brand also leave me with 1 more for that team set, I actually picked up 3 of the 4 but the 3rd is part of a player collection so you'll see that one at a later date. I picked up all 3 at a quarter each.

Speaking of Bowman, I also picked up this Bowman Heritage and once again, it leaves me with 1 more card for that team set. I picked this up for $.35 as well.

Next up, I hit the A&G lists. The top 3 cards put that team set at, you guessed it, 1 more card needed. I also bought 2 others for that set but they are player collections so you'll see them later. I did only pay $.18 each for all of them.

The bottom 3 are from the X set, to be honest, I assumed it was a parallel set but apparently not. I picked up 4 of those, but the 3 up there I grabbed at $.35 each and they leave me needing 3 more for that team set but 2 of those are short prints.

Last but not least, I picked up this Thomas Stadium Club card which leaves me needing 1 more card for the team set. Minus 2 variant short prints that is. I picked up this card for $.18. And just because I have so many for a non-player collection, this is my 532nd card of the Big Hurt.

That's all I had for this month's 2019 Sox cards. I know I'll have more next month because some of the cards I purchased just didn't make it to my Sportlots box by the time I had it shipped. It looks like I didn't complete any of the sets up there but technically I did, they just aren't all here yet.

Blaster Box from Target

We'll take a break from the Sportlots posts as of late. As I mentioned yesterday, I'd probably ship the cards in my box this weekend and I have. I actually got an email from Sportlots saying that the postage rates were going up (USPS) so today was the last day at the old rates so I went over this morning and hit ship. By then I should be done with the last SL posts.

Also as I mentioned yesterday, I had to go into Target to pick up an online order so I figured I'd check the card aisle. It has been a long time since being in a Target and apparently they moved the card aisle from next to the registers to all the way in the back. I had to ask. So I headed back there and there wasn't a ton of stuff to choose from. I usually look for the best bang for my buck. That would have been the 2019 Topps series 1 as it was 99 cards for $20. I actually purchased a blaster and some packs of Series 1 when it came out so I wouldn't have needed most of those.

My other options in blasters was Donruss Optic and Topps Archives. We all know I like Vintage so you can guess which one I went with. I won't show all the cards, just the ones for my collections and the inserts/SP. I went to log in the Archives to TCDB and realized I didn't have even 1 card so I already knew I would need most (depending on dupes) or all of them.

These were 2 of the inserts. Not bad I guess, the Ichiro does nothing for me. Nothing against him but I was never a collector of his. He was a great player and person (from what I've heard) and was a hit machine, he was great for baseball just not really anything to me. The Ohtani is a decent card as he is supposed to be a pretty good pitcher who can hit but has been battling injuries since coming over from Japan.

These were another reason I wanted the Archives, it said it had coins in them. I don't know why I like them but I do. That being said, you can't complain about those 2 names

These 2 are short prints at the end of the set. All-Stars, Highlight and Rookies are all SP at the end of the set. Again, can't complain about the first card. I don't have a bunch of Mike Trout's as he's not in any my collections but the 2 above doubled what I did have.

This was also a short print and I definitely know who he is as he had his own insert set in series 1. Also, my cousin (Sluggo) who sends me cards is a Braves fan so this will probably head out his way since he sends me a ton of cards all the time. I knew it was different out of the pack as the cardboard is different.

You all will probably enjoy the cards above but the following are the ones that go to my collections.

This was the only White Sox card I pulled and he's no longer a Sox player. Either way, it goes into the White Sox collection.

I did get a few player collection cards as well starting with this Johnny Bench. This is my 94th card of one of the Big Red Machine. Love the vintage look of these which is a good thing because I got a few for my PC's.

Also got one of the Kid for the Gary Carter collection. Not to mention an Expos card is always good for any collection. This is my 125th card of Carter.

Last but not least, another Sox card just the wrong color. Did I mention that I like the vintage feel of these cards. This Fisk is my 159th of his PC.

I wasn't disappointed with the blaster. I got some good players and I usually average around 4 cards to my PC's but usually it's more White Sox cards and less player collection cards. That's probably because this set has a lot more older players in it than, say, Series 1.

5 card start of the week

Some things change, some don't. I got some more cards in the mail today, 5 to be exact and I'm also on day 7 of not being able to pay for a card I won. Ebay won't help, they just ignore my tweets now and I'm done talking to them on the phone, because they don't actually listen to me. I have a little less than 4 days before all my bids are done then I'm out, they won't get another dime from me. I'm loyal to those that are loyal to me. That goes for businesses too. I used to go to a certain gas station and only that gas station until they tried to run my card for $100 and denied my $20 of gas. I haven't been back since because I think $100 is a tad ridiculous. I started going to a different gas station, they had a rewards card where I earned money off my gas. I'd save it up and then get a car wash on the day I turned it in so my savings pretty much covered the car wash. They no longer do the rewards program. I don't go there anymore. Well, I still do on occasion, I understand their decision but I don't go out of my way to use them like I used to.

I'm loyal to a fault, you screw with that, I'm out. Ebay has pretty much ignored my issues. I may not spend high dollar but I do buy quite a bit of stuff. They won't miss my money, and I won't miss dealing with their crap.

I'm looking at Sportslots once my bids are up. I've been looking around it some, trying to figure out the shipping, reading reviews, ect. I'm pretty sure I'll go with them considering Dennis purchases there all the time so they can't be that bad.

Until then, you still get to see the last of my Ebay purchases. Like the following 5 cards that I got from 2 sellers. The following card came in one envelope and the final 4 in the other.

I've probably skipped past this card a bunch of times thinking I had it but I actually took the time to see if I did, I didn't. I picked it up for $.54/shipped which is a little steep for a 87 Donruss but oh well. I guess I can say it's a quarter for each collection since it goes in the Vintage collection as well. Speaking of, it is my 282nd card from 1987 Donruss set and my 132nd of Schmidt.

I picked up these 3 for the White Sox collection. Technically, I picked up another Giolito as well but it was the same card I showed in the last post, apparently I won 2 of them.

It is my 11th card of Wilhelm ($.45/shipped), 22nd of Fulmer ($.37/shipped), my 3rd of Alonso and my 53rd of Moncada ($.49/shipped). The following card also came from the same seller.

I also picked up my 91st card of Bench. It comes from the same Archives set (2018) as the Wilhelm and Moncada. I picked it up for $.45/shipped.
