Early 80's Sox

Well I mentioned in my last post on Wednesday that we were still waiting on election results. I guess that hasn't changed yet.

Today's post will appease those who like early 80's cards and also a few of you who are White Sox fans.

We'll start off with the oldest. I only picked up 2 from the 1981 Fleer set, but that's only because they were the only 2 I needed for the team set. Both players were staples in the 80's. Both of these came from the virtual dime box, baseballcardstore.ca.

Staying in 1981, I also picked up 4 more of the Topps variety, only these came from Card Barrel. Sadly, I still need a couple more for that team set. I'll have to grab them on Sportlots but I've been picking up player collection there lately so I'll eventually get it.

I'm doing well on the Fleer sets as this was the only one I needed for the 1982 Fleer set. Nothing fancy, just a checklist, technically, the back of the checklist but it's still a Sox card. This one also came from the baseballcardstore.ca.

As we did in 1981, we'll follow up the 1982 Fleer with the Topps set. I only picked up these 2 but just like the 1981 set, they leave me with only needing 2. You also get to see another Chet Lemon.

Last but not least, 1 lone card from 1983. This was the only 1983 card I could find on baseballcardstore.ca that I needed, which is bad because I only have less than half the team set.

Nothing that exciting but I definitely needed them all. I kind of flip flop back and forth between buying team collection and player collection. Every week it can change depending on my mood. I'll probably go to Sportlots tomorrow and buy this weeks cards, I don't know what I'll by though. We'll see.

Today's card from Canada

I got a few more envelopes today but I'm going to stick with the plan of finishing off what I got yesterday. All of these came from my Canadian seller. He holds my cards for a little while and ships a bunch at once. We'll start ourselves off with the Vintage Collection pick ups.

These 2 cards knock the 1987 Donruss set up to 230 cards which is just under 35% completed. These 2 cards came to me for $.11/shipped and $.16/shipped.

I also picked up these 4 Tim Raines cards for the White Sox Collection. Certainly can't complain about those pick-ups of the Hall of Famer. Maybe he'll wear a Sox cap. It might happen. I got the Pinnacle for $.06/shipped, the Ultra's for $.18/shipped and $.25/shipped and the Donruss for $.25/shipped.

I got this 1988 Fleer Tradition Promising Forecast card for $.16/shipped. It's not as shiny as the picture makes it look but it's still a cool card.

New Additions - Vintage Collection, 1985

*For those new to the blog, all purchases were made on Ebay (unless otherwise noted) and all were under $.50/shipped.

I'm listing Ebay stuff but also I got an awesome package from Dennis over at "Too Many Verlanders" and my favorite "Too Many Manninghams", although you'll see a lot of that great stuff on the TMM blog whenever I get that post together. I also received 2 huge packages of mainly White Sox cards from Jeff over at "2 x 3 Heroes" as well and both guys also sent a bunch of vintage. I'm also randomizing the posts so let's see what's next.

Jeff added these 11 cards to the vintage collection. The 1985 Topps in my collection are a little more plentiful as I'm now at 129 cards where as the Fleer and Donruss I'm only at 23 and 24 cards.

I even managed to pick up 10 1985 Topps cards on Ebay. I don't remember how they came about but I would hazard a guess that it was a lot or possibly 2.

I only have 4 more of these posts to go, 2 players, 2 vintage, before I can do my grand finale on Too Many Manninghams with all the Michigan cards that Dennis sent over.

Ebay - White Sox Collection

This weeks new additions to the White Sox collection.

1980’s Kellogg’s cereal 3D cards (Chet Lemon and Claudell Washington)

Picked both of these up for $.99 each.  I saw this seller with these and the following cards and I couldn’t resist.

1983 Kellogg’s 3D cards (Greg Luzinski, Harold Baines & Britt Burns)

I got all the above cards for $.99 each all from the same seller that I got the last Tom Seaver collection cards.

2004 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Sweet Threads game-used jersey

Picked this up for ($2.24/shipped).  Not a huge fan of Mags but I did like him when he was here.  Plus it’s a relic card.

  

1968 Topps Chicago White Sox team card and Wilbur Wood.

Picked up the team card for $.96 and the Wood for $.50.  Great prices, I think.  If I really like the vintage card I’ll usually up my max bid to $1.

2012 Topps ‘87 mini ($.35)

I actually thought I needed this for the Paul Konerko collection, but I already had one.  I still needed one for the White Sox collection though so it still worked out.

Trade with Justin

Before I get to this trade, just a couple of quick things.  I hope I’m not overloading your blogrolls with all the posts.  I’m trying to post a 1981 post and a 1973 post during the day while I’m at work and then a normal post in the evening.  I was going to do one a day but I got to thinking, that’s over 1300 posts between those 2 sets, plus my other posts.  That’s almost over 4 years of posts a day.  So I’m posting 1 a day of each set.  Although I’ll be out of 1973 in a few weeks then it will slow down.  The 1981 posts will be going for a long time because of great bloggers like Eric at “Manupatches and Mustaches” and Kyle at “JABO’s”.  Both sent me huge stacks of 1981 cards along with other trade cards.  Those cards you’ll see in upcoming trade posts.  But you’ll have to wait to see all the 1981 cards, 1 at a time.  Just like they will both have to wait until I find some great cards to send back.  Thanks to both of you.

Justin of “Justin’s World” and I traded a few cards back and forth and before I get to what he sent me, let me just say, his package is the reason I love trading in this community that we have.  Along with the cards he sent me, he added 5 packs of Cars 2 stickers for my son.  Which came at a great time because they quit selling them here.  I loved explaining to him that someone I’ve never met, sent those to him.  Truly awesome package Justin.  Oh yeah, here’s the cards.

I’m told that anything over 25 years old is considered vintage.  That makes this whole package vintage.  But, in my mind, anything before the 80’s is vintage.  But I still like them all.  Love the vintage because, well, it’s vintage.  And love all the 80’s because of the flashbacks of childhood.

Ebay bucks and more

I received my ebay bucks at the beginning of July and I decided to head on over and spend my big money.  I picked up 4 cards for my PC.  3 White Sox cards and a Tom Seaver card.  Here they are.

As you can guess, I don’t purchase much on ebay by the 4 cards I purchased with all my earnings.  I was going to make this a contest and have you guess what I spent but you could have gone to ebay and checked the completed listings and figured it out.  So I guess I’ll just tell you.

$1.07/shipped.  It took me awhile to finish this as the Seaver, Thomas and Lemon/Lamp card took $1.06.  So it took me awhile to purchase something for a $.01.  That’s where the Fisk playing card came in.  I got it for $.01 shipped.  I haven’t had any problems with the “free shipping” PWE shipping yet.  Some protect it with a top loader, some don’t.  I figure for the price I’m paying, I’ll take the chance.  I’ve been bidding on anything vintage Sox that I don’t have up to $.50.  So I’ve been making big purchases to work up to my next periods ebay bucks purchase.  Not really, I get outbid quite a bit.

I’ve been scanning today, I have decided to scan all my PC cards and store them here on blogger.  Why not, it’s cheap and easy.  Just all the scanning sucks.  I figure I label each card then you have a way to search.  Maybe some of you do this already, but I thought it was pretty smart.  I’ve scanned the Sox cards that I have gotten in the last few weeks in trades and such, plus scans I found I still had on my computer, so there are already cards on the site.  THE SITE IS LIVE!!!!  Sounds more exciting that way.  I have a lot of cards to go through yet and it will be a constant work in progress I think.  But if you want to check it out, here’s the link - http://mysoxcards.blogspot.com/.  I’m certainly not expecting anyone to follow it or even check it out, but it’s there if you get bored.

Also I sent out some trade packages yesterday, or rather, my wife went to the post office for me and sent them.  So if your expecting a package from me, you should receive it probably on Monday.  And if your not expecting anything from me, you might get a package anyways.  I traded with my cousin and got a few cards for trade purposes.  So a couple of you will be surprised.  I sent out 5 packages, 3 of you are expecting them.  I was hoping to surprise the another person but I had to ask for her address because I apparently didn’t copy it down.

Also, a big shout out to AJ over at “The Lost Collector” who surprised me with this card for my PC.  It’s pretty sweet.  I hadn’t seen the green refractors yet, or at least live.  And to have it be a Konerko just makes it even better.  Thanks again AJ, much appreciated.
