Topping the budget off

Look who finally got his cards scanned. I spent my one day off yesterday trying to get caught up so I can get back to posting again.

Today's post are random pick-ups for the Vintage collection. Once I get close to my budget, I go and look and how many cards I'm getting from each seller. I always go up to 4 cards on each to make it worth their while. Except one seller, I always buy just 1 card. He has free shipping for the first card, then for 2-4 cards he charges $1. Most people bump it up a quarter or so, not from $0 to $1. I specifically look for cheap shipping because I include that in my budget so while I realize a buck isn't much, it's too rich for my blood.

Anyways, when I check the sellers page to find a card or 2, it always shows the oldest cards first so I'll glance at it and see if any are $.18. That's pretty much what these cards are.

This one is easy to see at $.18. At first I thought it wasn't part of the set because of the number 2 at the bottom right so I though it wasn't part of the 660 but after looking at the checklist on TCDB, the players stop at 653 followed by the card of the puzzle and 6 checklists. This checklist gives me 62 cards from the 1985 Donruss set.

After checking all the sellers and having enough cards, this guy had a bunch of 1981 Donruss at $.18 so I grabbed the first 11 that I needed and put myself right at the budget. These 11 give me 101 cards for that set.

I was really surprised to see a seller have this at $.18 so I definitely scooped it up. Can't beat a 70's card, let alone a 1970 card for that cheap. He had it marked that it wasn't in good condition (I don't remember where he had it rated) but as you can see, it really isn't bad at all. This card is my 70th from 1970 set from the decade of the 70's. Sorry!

New Additions - Vintage Collection (1982-1984)

This round of the "Look What I Got!" will have 29 posts, ranging from 1 card to 39. The player collections sometimes only have 1 or a couple of cards where as the White Sox or Vintage posts generally have a lot more, especially the 80's cards.

I have randomed them and let's see what we got (unless you peeked at the title.) Sorry if a few are blurry, I didn't realize it when I edited them and I wasn't going to go back, find the cards and take new photos.

Jeff hooked me up with a lot of cards for my Vintage Collection, including these 11 cards from 1982-1984. I love these years because it was the height of my collecting as a kid (9 to 11 years old).

New Additions - Vintage Collection, 1982 & 1984

*For those new to the blog, all purchases were made on Ebay (unless otherwise noted) and all were under $.50/shipped.

I'm listing Ebay stuff but also I got an awesome package from Dennis over at "Too Many Verlanders" and my favorite "Too Many Manninghams", although you'll see a lot of that great stuff on the TMM blog whenever I get that post together. I also received 2 huge packages of mainly White Sox cards from Jeff over at "2 x 3 Heroes" as well and both guys also sent a bunch of vintage. I'm also randomizing the posts so let's see what's next.

8 1982's (love those Topps) and 4 1984's from Jeff on this post. If you can't tell by now, he sent quite a bit for the vintage collection.

I also added a couple 1982's on the cheap from Ebay.

I only have 2 more posts and they are the best of the player collections (my favorite player) and the best of the vintage collection.

Cheaper Than Stamps #20

This is a series where I show off cards I need for my PC’s that I pick up on Ebay for cheaper than a stamp.  My maximum I spend on these cards is actually $.30 so I get them quite a bit cheaper than a stamp.

We left off with 1982-1981 so we’ll pick up right here.

1980 Topps – Gary Alexander, Dan Ford and Jerry Terrell

This year was actually the year before I started collecting so I didn’t have very many of these or from here on out on the vintage.  I picked up all of these 1980 Topps in 2 card lots.

1980 Topps – Tim Johnson, Phil Mankowski and Champ Summers

A couple of Detroit Tigers.  I remember Champ Summers but not much of the other 2 players.

1980 Topps – Ellis Valentine, Mike Paxton and Bob Davis

I remember the Ellis Valentine from the 1981 Topps set because he had the guard on the front of his batting helmet like a football helmet.  Powder blue on the Toronto Blue Jays though, gotta love that.

1980 Topps – Clint Hurdle, Bert Campaneris and Mickey Lolich

Now there are some names I recognize, Clint Hurdle is a manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates but I remember him more from the Colorado Rockies.  Bert Campaneris I don’t think I need to explain and Mickey Lolich I remember with the Detroit Tigers.

1980 Topps – Ken Forsch and Doug DeCinces

I recognize both these names from the 1980’s as well.  I want to say Forsch and DeCinces from the California Angels is what I remember though.
