Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Finally got some more cards

Like I said a post or so ago, there just hasn't been much to bid on so I don't have a lot coming in. I have been bidding on more cards so the number of chances have gone up, we'll see if I can actually win some.

I did get a couple of cards earlier in the week and another today. I've put down my dad's taxi hat for today so I had a few moments to get this done.

I picked up this Ozzie Guillen along with the following card from the same seller. I'm not sure I've seen these 1991 Score 100 Superstars cards before but I've won a few in the last couple of weeks. I picked up this card for $.15/shipped.

He also had the Jim Abbott from that set so I grabbed it as well. It was only another $.10/shipped. It is my 93rd card of the former Wolverine phenom. Closing in on that century mark of his cards.

I picked this up in a lot of 12 cards. There were 4 more of this card and 8 of another SI for kids cut out card of Pierre with the Rockies. So out of the 12 cards, I only needed one for my White Sox Collection so I only put my minumum for 1 card and still won it at $.17/shipped.

Cards from Baseball Dad

Baseball Dad/Dave from “Indians Baseball Cards” opened a pack a day last year from opening day till the end of the season plus some bonus packs.  You were able to claim a team or players and when they were pulled, you got the cards.  All he asked in return was to send him some cards in a trade or paypal him some money.  I don’t have much of anything to trade so I sent him some money a few days ago.  Let’s check out what I got.

trade-baseballdad

First off, the odd shaped cards.  The Bobby Thigpen is a normal sized card.  You can see the 1986 Donruss cards are huge in comparison, I didn’t know they came that size until I saw Dave opening them.  And then the pop-up is from 1985 Donruss (I think).  I do remember having some of those back then so it wasn’t new to me.

trade-baseballdad03

All of these 1990’s cards are new to the White Sox collection.

As well as these from the 2000’s.  Nothing terribly exciting but I needed all of them so it’s still greatly appreciated.

He’s getting ready to draft this years cards so jump on over to “Indians Baseball Cards” and get signed up.

Completed Team Sets–2012 Topps Heritage

teamset2012toppsheritage01

I completed the pseudo-63’s as well.  I don’t know if I have all of the rookie stars cards or not but technically they aren’t part of the actual team set anyways.

teamset2012toppsheritage02

You see a 2nd Addison Reed floating head on another Rookie Stars card which is why I said I don’t know if I have them all.  On top of that he got a solo card as well.  Topps must have really liked him.  I do like having a team card with the set.  I like that Topps are bringing them back.  It doesn’t have to be a team shot but any kind of card to represent the whole team is cool with me.

Box Break–My Cardboard Mistress

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress04

One thing I love about Spankee, is his blog title.  “My Cardboard Mistress” is so true, probably for most of us and I’m jealous that he came up with it first.  But on to the cards.

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress01

All of these were new to the White Sox Collection.  Being as I haven’t opened a pack of 2012 cards yet, I definitely appreciated the Chris Sale bowman.  The Jim Thome card on top is numbered to 699.  Really like the Addison Reed purple refractor and the Upper Deck Spectrum’s at the bottom.

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress03

Spankee even managed to hit a couple of player collections with the above Heritage Luis Aparicio for the Luis Aparicio Collection.

boxbreak-mycardboardmistress05

Also come Paul Konerko’s that I didn’t have including a 2003 Topps Gold.  Both cards are new to the Paul Konerko Collection.

And what ends up making it a great break is when you manage a hit, I actually got 2.  I said above how much I like the Spectrum cards and a jersey card of Jim Thome with a pinstripe peaking out is pretty great.  And I really loved the Tadahito Iguchi autographed card.  I believe this was my first hit, let alone autograph of his.  He was an integral part of the 2005 World Championship team.

Great break from “My Cardboard Mistress”, thanks Spankee.

Completed Team Sets–2011 Topps Allen & Ginter’s

team-11toppsaandg

I am definitely not a fan of the Allen & Ginter’s sets because I hate all the non-baseball cards.  But that isn’t going to stop me from collecting the team set.

team-11toppsupdate02

I do like the design for the set.  I think these are nice looking cards.  I got all these from trades as I have never bought a pack from any year of Allen & Ginter’s.

Trade with Cardboard Collections

I sent Colby some cards when I put the call out for people to take my cards.  This was his return package.  I’ve received a number of return packages even though I told people they weren’t required.  That just shows you how awesome this community of card bloggers really is.

trade-cardboardcollections04

These are just a few of the White Sox cards that he sent.  These were some of my favorites of the lot.  I thought I had the team card but apparently not.

trade-cardboardcollections05

You know the next best thing to vintage is the cards that look like they are vintage.

trade-cardboardcollections02

This one was new to the Luis Aparicio Collection.  I always love getting new cards for that collection since it’s my newest one.

trade-cardboardcollections01

Colby added 3 more Paulie’s to the Paul Konerko Collection.  Again, I figured I had the O-Pee-Chee at the bottom but apparently not.  Guess it’s a good thing I keep records and don’t go off just my memory.

trade-cardboardcollections03

He even knocked out 3 Peyton Manning’s off the Peyton Manning Collection.  I always like getting these in trades because I never buy any football cards so this collection relies on the kindness of others.  I really like the action shot in the bottom cards.

Thanks Colby, everyone be sure to check out “Cardboard Collections”.

Trade with Potch

I sent Potch of “Potch Wheeler and the Cardboard Heroes” some cards, I don’t have a clue what, but I don’t think it was anything special.  Some Tiger refractors is what started it.  Here is his return package.

trade-potch01

Mini’s and sort of Mini’s.  I only have a few of the 2011 stickers because I never could find them around here.  NFL stickers all over the place, but no MLB.  The 1987 mini is my first from that set.  The Sox sticker at the front looks pretty awesome scanned.

trade-potch02

I have some of the Topps Ticket to Stardom, I think I bought a box awhile back, but I didn’t have any of these perforated type of cards.  I’m not even sure what they are called but I like them.  A minor league White Sox, always a plus.  And like the Ticket to Stardom, I have a bunch of 2009 O-Pee-Chee but didn’t have that card.  Nice action shot at that.

trade-potch03

And Darren even managed to hit my player collection with the Paul Konerko Walmart parallel.  I don’t have hardly any of these and all the ones I have, I’ve gotten in trades.  I buy most of my packs at Walmart and apparently can’t ever hit these.

Thanks Darren, as always, great trading with you.  Be sure to check out “Potch Wheeler and the Cardboard Heroes”.

Trade with Eric

Eric of “Manupatches and Mustaches” said he had a bunch of 1981 Topps to send me (you’ll see all those later) and who am I to turn down someone sending me cards.  But then a day or so later he posted this card, which I wanted.

trade-eric02

Juan Pierre Liquorfactor (Cognac) card.  Although after I scan these I think they look like they are camouflaged.  I like all the sparkly cards in last years set and I’m sure I’ll like them in this years set.

Pierre had his moments for us, but I liked him.  They say he’s the hardest working guy in baseball.  I know when he was struggling with us, he went out and played hard every day.  You have to respect that.  Everyone has slumps, it’s how you perform while in those slumps that makes the man.  And he kept his head up and work even harder to overcome the slump.  Like I said, you have to respect that.

Along with the huge stack of 1981 Topps, he also sent some other Sox cards for my collection.  Because he’s cool like that.

trade-eric01

A couple of our new managers rookie cards.  And you can’t go wrong with a vintage, even if it is a reprint.  Not positive what the Luke Appling is, haven’t logged it in to my collection so I haven’t googled it yet.  A Sale mini I didn’t have, I have a few of the mini’s but I didn’t have this one.  And since I started this photo with our current manager, I’ll show our last manager at the end.  Although I picked it out because it’s a cool photo.  This is just a few of the cards he sent.

Thanks Eric, I’ve scrounged up some cards for you but I want to pick up a few more before I send out your package.  But I’ll definitely hit you back.  And thanks again for all the 1981 Topps.  Huge help to the set.
