Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

South Bend Pick Ups

Just a quick post as I've been under the weather for a few days. Head cold kind of symptons but I think I'm on the other side of it. I worked through it and if you know me I don't get much sleep so last night I crashed around 11 pm. I woke up at 7 this morning and chilled in my recliner for an hour before falling asleep again and sleeping until almost noon. I'm sure that helped me heal a little faster since I generally get less than 5 hours sleep on work nights.

I have 2 posts to get to in the next few days, todays and I received a Christmas package. I got it logged in and all today (once I finally got up) so I just have to do the post. I have a show tomorrow so you'll probably get that one on Sunday.

Today's post are just a couple of cards I picked up at the last show we did in South Bend. I got bored towards the end of the show and walked around. I hit a couple of dollar boxes and started pulling a bunch out but then I decided I didn't want to spend that much so I put back everything but a couple cards that I decided were the better cards for me.

I grabbed this Caris LeVert from the guy set up next to us. He's been by us a couple of times in South Bend. He graduated from Purdue so we've talked about that since my son turned down Purdue to go to Purdue/Ft. Wayne. He had a couple of cards I looked at but this was the only I decided that I had to have because as much as I hate having to buy all these color parallels, I really like the looks of them. I paid a buck for it.

I always have to pick up Paul Konerko cards that I don't have so this was a nice find. I wasn't keen on paying $2 but I don't generally ask for a discount when I'm only buying 1 card and this was a fairly new dealer, we've talked before but nothing for very long so I don't know him that well. It was PK that I didn't have so I didn't care about paying $1 more than it's probably worth. When I logged it in, I realized I didn't even the base so there's probably 50 color parallels as well so more to chase I guess. This card is my 760th card of PK.

We're doing a show in Fort Wayne tomorrow so I may get to see my son, he usually tries to stop by since he's living there now.

In my head

I only have 3 more players left in my November pick-ups that are current collections. But wait, there's more! I added 9 more player collections because apparently I didn't have enough. I added them in November when I was still sorting cards for Kevin so I'll show those off 1 at a time as well, then maybe I might make it to December's pick-ups. I do add to those posts when I get new cards so it's not as many posts as you think once I get through the new ones. For example, say I pick-up a card today of a player I collect. When I log them in, I look on my spreadsheet to see if I still have cards to post of that player and I add it to them. So it's not like you'll see that player get posted a bunch of times. It just makes for a longer post when his name comes up.

Take today's post, I have 4 different scans of the player which means since November, I have picked up cards of his 4 different times. Even though all 4 came from 2 places, they were at 2 different times from each place.

This scan of 4 came from Sportlots but I received it just after Christmas and I scanned and logged them just before New Years. That top right is the green variation, which you can see in the logo on the bottom left. The bottom right is the purple variation.

This came from Sportlots as well but I received it back in November which was the first card since I posted his previous so this dated November's posts. This is the dazzle variation.

Same with both of these, they both came from Sluggo. The green prizm on the right was back in November and the Illusions on the left was in December. Both were cheapies so I got them for free.

These 7 cards bump the LeVert collection up and over the 50 card mark at 51 cards. That keeps me in the #2 slot on TCDB with over 30 cards to go and puts him as my 4th highest basketball player collection.

I post enough that I can't help but combine posts but I do like the format of a player per post as it helps me posts pretty often but I don't feel obligated (except birthday posts) so if I decide to take a day or 2 off, I don't feel bad. I do know if I take a lot of time off, I get out of the habit and stop posting so this helps with that. I did have 304 posts last year. The first time I hit over 300 since 2012 and I did multiple posts a day for awhile that year.

No Sleep and Brooklyn

I took today off for a funeral and since I only work half day's on Fridays anymore, I went ahead and took it off too. I was really looking forward to sleeping in but I woke up around the time I get up for work and had trouble sleeping from than on. After the funeral, I came home and logged in some cards that I picked up at Sluggo's yesterday. You'll get to see one of those tonight.

Tomorrow we are heading out to Baseball Card Exchange and do some shopping. Then on Saturday, we were supposed to do a show but Sluggo is doing it without me as I am taking my son on his first college visit. Exciting times in the household, we have 2 other visits scheduled.

Today's post isn't from one of the University's we're visiting but it's the top University in my mind. Technically, I've visited this one a bunch.

These 5 cards came from Sportlots. They are in 2 pictures because they came in 2 different shipments. The top 2 are different parallels. One is Jade, the other is the International which has a glossy cover. I also ordered one that said it was gold. I got it, but when I went to log it in on TCDB, I found out there isn't a gold version, it was another copy of the International one. That's about the only negative I have of buying on Sportlots is sometimes the cards aren't listed correctly. It's happened before but as often as I've purchased on there, it's only happened a couple of times.

Here's the aforementioned card I picked up from Sluggo. He got a package in from a guy he buys from in North Carolina and I try to go through and grab what I need first. I only grabbed 3 cards that were former Wolverines, the rest were White Sox or other PC's. This is the green parallel.

These 6 cards put me at the half century mark. I only have 1 other basketball PC that has more than that.

Staying Power

Only a 1 card post today because I just added it to my PC last weekend but it's been longer since I posted his cards than anybody else's. Sluggo pulled it out of some packs he opened, I think it was a blaster.

He's been our best NBA player for awhile now but we've got some promising younger players that we'll see if they last like he did.

I've said it before that I was shocked he even made it to the NBA, let alone has played as well as he had. Guess that just goes to show you, I don't know crap.

This is my 40th card of Caris. He has my 3rd highest amount of cards as far as basketball PC's go. He's only 3 cards behind Trey Burke but he's got a long way to go until he gets to Tim Hardaway jr as he's less than half way there.

Cold and Icy

Yesterday was about baseball because I want it to be warmer, today I'm being realistic. It's cold, with lots of ice, which also means it's basketball season. I don't really watch NBA, I can't get into it at all. I do try to follow along with Wolverines in the pros, which is one of who we have today.

I picked this up this past weekend at Sluggo's. We are setting up at a card show this coming weekend and we're organizing some NBA stuff and I grabbed 3 cards. This LeVert is one of them. It's the cracked ice parallel and is #'d to /25. It was in our $5 box so I'll just take it off what I earn at the show. It's a cool looking card, better than what my scan shows. It is one of those annoying cards though when he wears one jersey but the card says another other team. Just pick one, I don't care which.

It is my 39th card of Caris.

Friday Caris

Today's post is our top player in the NBA and I remember him leaving from Michigan and I was thinking, I don't know why he's leaving, he isn't going to do anything in the NBA. I'm glad he proved me wrong. If he can stay away from the injury bug, he'd be even better.

I grabbed this one from Sluggo's Sports Cards (that would be the name we are going with for the future card shop, I figured I might as well start using it. It was the only LeVert card I pulled from the NBA box that I listed on Sportlots. I didn't pull a ton of cards from it, at least for myself.

Sportlots, however, was a different story as I picked up these 25 cards which puts me at 38 cards so as you can tell, it really boosted the collection. All of these are Nets cards but I'm pretty sure he's with the Pacers now so hopefully I can get more in his new uniform soon. I see he has Michigan cards as well but they are all autos, relics or really low seriel #'d cards.

3 Singles

* I put my January purchases on random for today's post.

I pulled up one of my single card purchases (player collection) so instead, I'm going to drop 3 of my single card purchases in one post. They are all related as they are all previous Michigan alumns.

We'll start with the only of the 3 that also goes to the Michigan collection. Just because they took the wings off his helmet doesn't mean you can fool me. This is my 10th card of Chesson. I already had the gold version of this so now I have the base to go with it.

I also picked up another Caris LeVert for his collection. This is my 12th card of LeVert and I have none in a Michigan jersey. I'm not sure I've ever seen one either.

Last but not least, the actual card that got randomned for this post. James Bourque was my last player collection to start (until I get my next cards from Sportlots). This is only my 2nd card of his as I just started his collection last month. As of now, TCDB only shows 41 total cards so hopefully that will go up so I have a better chance of continuing this collection. I'm thinking if he's getting these kind of cards, maybe some Bowman this year? He was in last years, but only autographs.

Catch-up Post

I have another catch up post. My oldest kids were here for the weekend for a wedding and I was busy Thursday through Monday and then a couple of days to recover because I'm not used to actually having to leave the house on my days off. Oh yeah, and my anniversary was Tuesday, probably should throw that in just in case the wife stops by (won't happen.)

I picked up this 2018 Ripken for a quarter/shipped. It is my first of his from 2018 and my 419th different card of his.

I picked this up for $3/shipped. I don't really follow Sale anymore so I'm not sure why I still collect him, but I haven't quite made that decision yet. He's finally getting his shot at the playoffs and he should do well since he had time off from an injury because he usually fades at the end of the year. This is my 141st card of Chris.

This is one of those hugely thick cards. I picked up my 8th card of Caris LeVert for $1.99/shipped. It is numbered to /25 as well so I think it was a pretty good pick up.

This is my 9th card of Jake, the 4th autograph. I think I mentioned last time I picked up his card that since he's injured again, I've been picking up more of his cards. This one came to me for $2.25/shipped.

Weekend catch-up

This is a catch up post because I've gotten cards the last few days but hadn't posted them. I have various collections represented today.

We'll start with a couple of Bowman Heritage cards I picked up for a dime/shipped a piece. These go to the new Baseball collection which is anything that's not in my other collections.

I found this searching dime cards but it goes to the Vintage Collection. I picked it up for $.13/shipped. I'm always happy to grab 1981 Topps because I'm over 75% complete.

Now for the player collection portion. I picked up this Gary Carter from this years Archives set. I nabbed it for $.23/shipped. I've been bidding on a bunch of these Archives cards for my player collections but have only won a couple. This is my 116th card of Gary Carter.

I picked this 2018 up for $.25/shipped. It's my 96th card of Zimmy, slowly closing in on that century mark.

It's not a player collection but I grabbed it with the Zimmerman card. This White Sox collection card of the currently injured Abreu came to me for $.23/shipped. I only need 4 more players for that team set, but apparently they all have different versions so I need 7 more cards.

I picked up both of these Maurice Hurst's for the player collection as well as the Michigan collection. His cards are starting to come down, I've been bidding on his for awhile and just starting winning some. I've managed to get 4 of Mo so far. Both of these were $.34/each/shipped.

As you can tell, Denard's cards have come down as well. I picked up the triple relic card for only $2/shipped and the autograph for $3/shipped. Both great prices if you ask me. These 2 cards give me 41 cards of Shoelace.

Last but not least, I picked up this relic/auto card of Caris LeVert for only $3/shipped. This is my 7th card of LeVert and sadly, none of them are in his Wolverines uniform.

A basketball card?

I got one card today but it's one I've been looking forward to just because it's a fairly new player collection.

This is only the 4th card of Caris LeVert that I've picked up since he went pro last year. I picked it up for $.23/shipped.

16 cards, 4 envelopes

We had a big mail day today. It's been slow receiving envelopes, apparently they've been saving them all for today.

We'll start off with these 4 cards from the 1970 set. I picked up all 4 cards for $.17/each/shipped. They put that set at only 46 cards towards completion.

I also grabbed a slew of 1972 cards for that set. I also paid $.17/each/shipped for all of them except the Johnny Briggs which I grabbed for $.15/shipped. These 8 cards bump up that set to 41 cards and those 12 vintage cards put me at 239 cards picked up this year for that collection. All of those cards above came from the same seller.

I also picked up these 2 Bowman cards for the White Sox Collection. I grabbed both of these at $.23/each/shipped. I like the Tim Anderson as he just signed with us for a few years.

I managed to pick up another Caris LeVert. I only have 3 cards of his so I'm always happy to add some of his. I grabbed this for $.16/shipped.

Welp, I finally got one. A Chris Sale in another jersey. I had to do the same with Mark Buehrle and that turned out ok, probably because I didn't hear much about him. That's going to be different with Sale so we'll see how that goes. I picked up this card for $.24/shipped.
