Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Pre Show Post

Went over to my cousin's this evening to load up the cards and showcases for the show tomorrow. It's the same show we did a couple of months ago in Plymouth. It's not an overly huge show, it's in the basement of a church but it's been running for a couple of years now so it's got a good following. Plus, the church raises money while we're there by selling biscuits and gravy for breakfast and chili for lunch so we get food as well. The guy that runs it gives the money to the church and the local little league.

Today's post is in hopes of a season. I haven't see anything about spring training being postponed so we'll see.

I picked up all of these White Sox cards from the Baseball Card Store (online dime box) at a nickel a piece.

Fred gave me the top 2 cards as well as this team set from when the White Sox were the local minor league club. If I remember, there was only one name that did anything in the majors. I really liked this because I used to go to the games a lot more often when they were the White Sox. Now they're the Cubs.

Dennis sent me a ton of White Sox cards. I just selected the guys I have over 100 cards of to show off and I'll flip through them pretty quickly.

Robin Ventura - 153 cards.

To be honest, I'm not sure why I scanned these 3 together.

Harold Baines - 85 cards (I posted him because he's a HOFer.

Frank Thomas - 576 cards.

Ozzie Guillen - 110 cards. The cards Dennis sent me put my Ozzie cards over 100.

I posted Chris Sabo because, well, you know. Or at least Dennis does.

Some oddballs he sent as well. Love the bottom 2.

He also sent me this awesome 1959 card which will also go to the vintage collection.

Not only did Dennis hook me up with all of the above cards, but also these relics and auto. I told you he sent an awesome package.

The above 4 came from Sluggo. I'm not sure about those top 2 as in where they came from. It's not like he goes through the older stuff anymore, most of that is at our house. I liked Madrigal, I wish they wouldn't have traded him.

Lastly, I picked up all these Sox cards at the last card show we did. I paid a lot more of what I normally spend on cards on the Crochet auto. I'm really hoping he becomes something special.

That's all I got for White Sox cards that are non PC cards. Which is plenty. I don't know if I'll post tomorrow night or not. I'll be home in the early evening but as much as I enjoy setting up at shows, it wears me out.

LCS Pick-Ups

I lied, I had 2 posts left. I noticed I had scans left for another post that I must have forgotten to have add to the list that I random. So today, instead of another PC, you get more White Sox cards! Although, after getting swept by the Yankees, I'm not sure I can tolerate them.

These are all cards I picked up at the LCS I went to with my cousin.

If you remember way back when I started this round of posts, I showed some Starting Lineup figures of Bo Jackson that I purchased. Here's the card & coin that came with them. I know the card is all decked out in KC blue but it does have the Sox logo with the notation that he signed with us so I kept it.

I picked up all these out of a quarter box. I just guessed at whether or not I had them. I wasn't going to take the time to look them up over a quarter. I picked up 3 or 4 dupes but it's only a buck compared to the 20 minutes I'd have to look each card up. I'll take it. Engel and Collins are the only ones still with the team now and Engel has been on the IL but he just started rehab so hopefully he'll be back soon. He was supposed to be our 4th outfielder but him and 2 of the other outfield starters (Eloy & Robert) have all been out.

Also picked these up of our (and American Leagues) MVP for a quarter a piece. Love the black Panini National Convention card as it is all black.

Also picked up this relic of Pito for $1.50. Pinstripe and numbered to /99 for a buck fifty, yes please. These 3 cards of Abreu give me 148 cards of his.

So while I wasn't too thrilled with the LCS, I did pick up a few things that I needed for cheap. For the most part, I thought most of the cards were overpriced which is why I stuck with the quarter box and cheap relic box.

Newer and Older

My White Sox are on a roll so why not show off some Sox cards. That and that's what the random told me to show today. We've won 3 in a row, are over .500 after being right at .500 7 times already this year. The bats are finally coming alive. Kopech got the start today and as of the 3rd inning, we are up 8-1 already. We're currently in 2nd place in the division but we are only 1.5 back going into today. 1 game in the win column and 2 in the loss, we've played 1 more game than KC.

I picked up these awhile ago when I was trying to get 2017 team sets completed. Which these 5 did. That card in the middle is my 49th of Rodon, who just threw the Sox's 20th no-hitter.

Picked these up while looking at the base Bunt. I'm actually only a couple cards short on this team set as well. This is my 13th cards of James Shields.

These 5 also complete the 2017 Chrome set. I need to get back to buying Sox cards but I'm having so much fun going through my player collections. This is my 34th card of Fulmer, 22nd of Q, 33rd of Frazier and Reynaldo, and lastly, my 146th card of the current MVP.

Once I get close to my budget when shopping on Sportlots, I look to see which sellers I haven't bought at least 4 cards from and look through their inventory just to see if there's anything I need. That's what the following cards are.

I picked this up from 2015 Panini. It's my 10th card of our former manager.

I picked up these 1981 Topps Stickers from a seller. I only have 3 for the team set but I do enjoy getting these early 80's stickers. This is my 11th card of Lamar Johnson and my 10th of Wayne Nordhagen.

I picked up these 4 from the 1976 SSPC set. I know 2 aren't in Sox uniforms but they were listed as Sox cards on Sportlots and if you've used it, there isn't many pictures. It does have the Sox listed as their teams on the back so they would still get counted as Sox collection. In order of appearance up there, this is my 7th card of Ralph Garr, 3rd card Nyls Nyman, 10th card of Pat Kelly and my 11th of Jim Spencer.

Lastly, I picked up this Billy Pierce from 1979 TCMA. I was happy to grab this card as I don't have a bunch of him. This is only my 7th card of his and the majority of those are post career, as this one is.

If you want an update since it took me awhile to do this post, KC won again today and the Sox are up 4 in the 7th.

Last of the Sox cards, this round

I went to the LCS yesterday, I had never been there before but I read an article on one of the card sites that they were broken into. That's how I found out we had one. It was ok, a little overpriced if you ask me but I tend to be cheap too so there is that. I picked up some cards, you'll see those later.

Today, my cousin and I went to a card show. We weren't sure what to expect but it was a decent show. I was surprised how many people were there. We got there about 15 minutes after it opened and it was already packed. My only complaint though, was the lightning. My old ass can't read colored names on colored backgrounds without sufficient light. I can normally flip through a stack of cards pretty quickly because I read fast but today, it took me forever to go through cards because I had to stop at each card and really concentrate on reading the name.

Those cards are for another day too as the random has 3 more posts before I get to those. Today being one of them.

The last post of the 2017 White Sox team collection pick ups was awhile ago but today, you get to see the Bowman pick-ups.

These 3 complete the Bowman Chrome team set minus a variation of a Moncada card. Only Abreu is still with the team. The Quintana is my 21st card of him but the Abreu is number 140 of him.

These Bowman Platinum are pretty slick looking. The same goes for this set as the Chrome above, it's complete minus a variation of Moncada. The Lopez is my 30th and the 2 Fulmer's in this post put him at 31.

I haven't been very good at picking up White Sox stuff with my next Sportlots package. I've been concentrating too much on player collections. I need to rectify that.

Other Topps Sox

I just spent the last hour or so finishing up my Tier 1 collection purchases on Sportlots so next week I'll start on the Tier 2. I have the Colts/Bills game on but I'm really not paying much attention to it. I'm listening to music and I just glance up occasionally to look at the TV. I just don't really get into the NFL much anymore. I watch highlights when I hear a Michigan grad made a good play or something but that's about it. Let's face it, most of those highlights are Tom Brady.

I found this a week or so ago and kept forgetting to post it so I'll go ahead and throw it up here.

So many great players passed last year and we're barely a week in this year and we lose a great manager. I was a little shocked to see he passed and then I saw his age, I didn't realize he was 93. He's been around forever and it's awesome that other than one year he played with the Kansas City A's, he spent his whole career with one team. At least he got to see them win another World Series before he left. RIP Tommy Lasorda.

Today's post are more White Sox cards from 2018 but from Topps.

We'll start off with Allen & Ginter. The top 2 complete the A&G set for that year. The Frank Thomas collection is now at 543 cards.

I'm only half way (4 of 8) on the A&G X set though.

The top 5 cards of the Big League set complete the team set for me. I do like the looks of this set and hope it sticks around for awhile. That Carson Fulmer up top gives me 29 cards of him.

I just happened to run across these gold versions as well and added them.

This Finest card still leaves me 1 card short for that team set. That 1 card is a player collection so I'm sure at some point I'll pick it up.

I also like the Fire set but I could do without all the color parallels but they are pretty much a part of collecting now. The 2 above, leave me a card short of the team set as well. That is my 135th card of the MVP, Abreu.

These 2 cards leave me 1 short, again, of the team set but that last card is a short printed card of a player collection. The above cards of Reynaldo Lopez give me 24 of his, we're hoping for good things from him this year and maybe I'll get those numbers boosted as well.

I still need 3 cards to complete the Heritage set but all 3 of those are short prints and one of those is a variation short print. The above Avisail Garcia cards give me 36 cards of him. I thought I had more than that in the 6 years he was with us.

This Rodon leave me 1 short print short of completing that set but it's a short print variation card. This is my 46th card of the former Sox as they just released him after the 2020 season.

Last but not least, you can't go without having stickers. I'm still a few short of this team set even with the 5 above. The Derek Holland (3 cards) and Leury Garcia (9 cards) stickers are the first on this post of those players. The James Shields cards above give me 10 cards of him and the Yolmer Sanchez's give me 18 of him. Out of these 4 players, Leury is the only one still with the Sox.

More White Sox

I've been slacking on my posting. I keep falling asleep fairly early, I'm too old for 10 hour days. This will be my last post until next week as this is our annual Father's Day camping trip.

I read today where they may have a season yet. I'm sure I'll read tomorrow where there's no chance. I'm not even sure we should bother with one at this point. Don't get me wrong, I want to watch some baseball, but it seems kind of pointless now. We'll see what happens.

Today's post are even more White Sox cards so we'll just get to it.

We'll start off with some of Fulmer, he hasn't really grown on me yet, he's been pretty inconsistent. These 3 cards make 28 of his.

A few more odds and ends. You'll see the Dunning again later.

Last but not least, a bunch of Gypsy Queen. Up until the last couple of months, I was way behind on the last few years of GQ but I've been picking them up a lot lately. These 4 base leave me one short of the complete team set, minus the 3 SP's.

All the above cards came from my cousin's packages to me.

These 6 came from Sportlots, all 6 were under $.50, most were only $.18. All newer cards, if I'm not looking for something in particular, I look for the 2020 cards when I start shopping on Sportlots.

Also nabbed these 2 cards from Brian over at Highly Subjective and Completely Arbituary on his Free Card Fridays. They were 2 different Fridays so they were separate packages. The Frank Thomas is an odd looking card and the Dunning is the yellow border parallel. Thanks to Brian and all you others doing the free card posts. I'm generally to late to get in on most.

That's all for today, hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm looking forward to kicking back and doing nothing for 3 days.

White Sox cards

* I put my April incoming on random for today's post.

I had to put incoming in the top line instead of purchases because I actually got some cards from fellow bloggers. The first post for this month is a big one (card count wise) and most came from one of those awesome bloggers I mentioned. It's the first of 2 White Sox collection posts you'll get this month.

Chris contacted me saying he had some White Sox cards leftover from his Seasons of Giving. I'm glad he though of me because I needed over half the cards he sent. I'm just going to show some highlights.

He sent mainly some 90's and 00's but had some recent years as well.

Some vintagy looking cards as well. I should note that these cards of El Caballo give me 77 cards of him.

I said he sent mostly 90's which means you know I'm going to get a few of this guy.

I also picked up a couple of recent cards of the Big Hurt on Sportlots. These 2 and the 4 Chris sent put his cards at 523 cards. Which is my highest count of any player, including my player collections.

As you can tell, I was on the hunt for more 2020 White Sox cards. I even managed to pick up both photo variations of Zack Collins, a gold Rodon and a very shiny Cease (silver variation I believe).

I picked up other Sox cards but they all belong to player collections.

A big shout out to Chris for the cards. Check him out at Nachos Grande.
