Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Cards from Carolina

You all may remember Sluggo who I used to set up with at shows. He moved back to North Carolina but we still trade via the mail (although I've been slacking at getting his package out). He sent me a bunch of cards for my PC's last week.

Let's get started.

As you can see, I keep getting a ton of Robert cards from everybody. That tends to happen when he gets a ton printed in every set. Kevin knows I tend to have most of the base so he always pulls shiny and insert cards for me.

I'm closing in on 50 cards of Colson Montgomery who I have high hopes for (if we don't trade him). I had hopes for Colas as well but he's gone now.

4 more shiny Sheets, all of the Sox variety which is all the better.

The top 3 are all base Chrome, the Darboh is the Green (#'d to /150) and the red Lazer of Ojabo. All 5 of these players are PC except for Swords but that's only a technicality because she's still playing for Michigan. I'm sure I'll end up PCing her as well.

Roman Wilson is probably the least popular of the next 3 but I keep getting a ton of his cards. These 3 give me 37.

Blake is the second most popular and with these 9, I'm up to 47 of him.

The most popular is JJ, now if he could stay healthy long enough to showcase what he can do. Sooner or later, Minnesota is going to give up and go another route and I want him to succeed. Him and Corum were my favorites of that 2023 Championship team and they are both really good humans. These 2 give me 41 of JJ.

Kevin even managed to hit a couple of my Tier 1 collections that I don't add to a whole lot. I only added 4 of each player last year. The Refractor Konerko puts his PC at 801 cards and the Prism parallel of Aparcio puts him at 148.

He's already started my next box as he's been picking up a couple of collections and is busy sorting them to start doing shows down there. I'm sure he won't do as well as up here because he won't have my pretty face and sparkling personality with him but he's going to take a shot. (Yes, that was sarcastic).

Cards and More

I guess I've been sitting on my ass all day, the least I could do is another post.

I finished some sorting last week and these were my payment. It was list players again so these players were all on the list and I needed.

We'll start off with the White Sox Collection (non player). All 6 are Hall of Famers which is why they are on the list. I'm closing in on a milestone for Harold Baines and Jim Thome. It's number 1023 of Frank Thomas though, the most I have of any player and he's not even a non-PC. Funny thing with the Griffey, I pulled that for Fred at work. He collects Griffey and just last week he told me he just got his 1st card of him in a Sox jersey and said he didn't even realize he played for them so when I saw that, I was thinking I'd give him a 2nd one. Until I realized I didn't have it. Sorry Fred!

Next up, Tier 3

I found 5 more of Cal jr that I needed. 2 from 2022, 2 from 2023 and a lowely 2007 Masterpieces. Apparently he had 3 different cards in that set. I guess you can say I'm close to a milestone with Ripken too but I'm not going to quite make it before the end of the year. These 5 give me 981 cards of Ripken who is my highest player collection.

I got a couple more of Yaz as well. I wish I could say that was a 1964 Topps but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be in a box to sell for $.02 if it was. It is a 2011 60 Years of Topps but it's a OG back. I already had the normal back. These 20 give me 191 of Yaz, another one I'm close to a milestone.

2 more of Schmidt as well. You've already seen a couple from these sets and you'll see more. Somebody obviously opened some and sold them to the LCS. Good news for me as there are obviously some players that I collect in those sets. These 2 give me 361 of the 2nd best 3rd basemen in my PC. *wink

My last Tier 3 card is another from the same set. This shiny Steve Carlton gives me 230 of him.

Onward with Tier 2 cards.

You'll also see more of these Archives (and A&G) from this year in this section. These 2 of Moncada give 232 cards.

As I stated above, an Archives and an A&G. That has been the really nice thing about sorting is that I've been getting all of the latest releases not too long after they come out. These 2 of Eloy gave me 211 cards of him.

2 more of an Archive and A&G plus a Select as a bonus card. These 3 of Robert jr give me 206 of him. A far cry from the 12 I had of him the first 3 years of collecting him.

I also got a cool card of Fisk. Love this one, blue background from 2003 with the red, white and blue uniforms, looks great. This give me 387 cards of him.

The last 2 singles from my Tier 2 collections, both 2022 Chrome Platinum that you've also see here, and you'll continue to see. This is my 96th of Vaughn so almost a milestone there and my 748th card of Larkin.

On to the Tier 1.

I found another one of Aparicio which is always nice as I don't add a ton of his but I do add some. This is my 10th card this year for a total of 135 of lil Luis.

Definitely like picking up more of Seaver. 2 more newer and like the Yaz above, a 2011 OG back of 60 Years of Topps. These 3 give me 579 cards of Tom Terrific.

That's all from the sorting of the baseball, I'm sorting the football boxes now but I don't think I'm going to get much out of them. If I had to guess, I'd say Charles Woodson will be the only player I get from them because a lot of them are around 5 years or older which means no current players like Hutchinson and Collins.

Before I go, I wanted to give a nod to Dennis at Too Many Verlanders again. I just received his Christmas package not long ago and then on Friday, I got another unexpected package. I was really confused because he just gave me a bunch of cards so imagine my surprise when I opened it to find this. Don't mind the fat guy modeling.

That would be Mike Hart jersey (with the Jordan logo which makes it even better). Obviously it's not a real jersey but I think it's pretty damn cool. As per his usual, Dennis is way too generous. For those that don't know, Mike Hart is my favorite Michigan player of all time. This isn't the first time Dennis has hooked me up with a Mike Hart item. He went to an autograph signing and got me a personalized autograph on one of his cards as well. Like I said, way too generous but we love him for it. Thanks again Dennis.

This also happened yesterday.

I don't play everyday but I check it occasionally, I haven't even checked today. I normally suck at it. I do alright with the written ones, it's when they want me to name a player that played for both teams that I suck. After I run out of guesses and look at some of the players I could have used, I usually smack myself in the head. Duh! I knew that. I can just never think of them. On this one, I knew the Hall of Fame ones were right, all of the others were educated guesses but as you can see, it worked out for me. You can see I only used 2 current players in the 6 slots that you could use current ones. That's probably why I usually struggle with these. I got my 1st one though, that's all that matters.

HOF'ers and more

Today's post are the cards I returned to the shop last weekend. I organized the list players for my LCS, luckily, it was baseball as I have more than a few PC's that align with the list. The list consists of players that the guy we sell them too has guys that he can sell, there is a list of current and older non HOF'ers plus any HOF'er is included.

Let's see what I got to keep.

We'll start with the team collections.

A couple of Minnie Minoso, a Frank Thomas and an Early Wynn. Not too bad to start with it. I've been getting a lot of the platinum anniversary cards lately.

The 2 Minoso's give me 15 of him.

1019 of Frank Thomas now which is the only player I have over 1k of.

The shiny Wynn gives me 10 of him.

Next up are Tier 3 which a bunch of my PC's are HOF'ers.

I added 4 more of Johnny Bench. The top 2 are from this years Donruss but the bottom 2 I had never seen before. The left one is from the Ted Williams set in 1993. While the right one looks familiar, it is actually an insert set from the 1992 Upper Deck set, not the 2008 set.

These 4 cards give me 238 cards of Johnny.

I also picked up a couple more cards of the kid. One old, one fairly new. With all the sorting of junk wax I've done, you would think I already had the 1988 Donruss All-Star. The other is a Select from 2022.

These 2 give me 349 cards of Carter.

I added 7 more of Mike Schmidt. The top 5 are all from the previously mentioned Ted Williams set, only a year later. The bottom row consists of 1989 Cereal Superstars, I'd be curious what cereal they came from. The right is a 2022 Archives card.

These 7 give me 351 cards of Schmidt.

I also got 1 of Yastrzemski. This is a 2005 Fan Favorite, the 2nd 1963 look-a-like of this post.

This Yaz gives me 183 cards.

Next up are my Tier 2 PC's.

I found 2 more of Pudge, 1 from each of the Sox. You see another of the Platinum Anniversary cards. Along with a Topps Finest from 1993.

These 2 give me 380 of Fisk.

I picked up an Eloy Prizm, but not my only Prizm of this post. This is also a milestone card of Eloy.

This card gives me 200 cards of the Big Baby which puts me #5 on TCDB.

You get another Prizm White Sox with these 3 additions of Moncada. Along with a 2021 Chrome and a 2022 A&G. I've been picking up the A&G's a lot recently.

These 3 give me 226 cards of Yoan which puts me at #1 on TCDB.

It was nice to grab a few of Larkin (I think I got a few for Dennis as well). You see another 2022 A&G only of the X (not old Twitter) variety. A 1998 Chrome which you don't see too often and the one on the right is a Stadium Club Member's only 55 (not sure what the 55 is about). I had never seen that one before. I also got this Showcase Series from 1998 Score.

These 4 give me 746 of the former Wolverine.

I also managed to get a couple from my Tier 1 collections.

I found another 2023 Donruss in the form of Tom Terrific and a 2015 Stadium Club of Aparicio. Nothing too flashy but needs all the same.

The Aparicio gives me 134 cards which moves me into the #1 spot on TCDB.

The Seaver gives me 575 cards which puts me at #4 on TCDB.
