Back in the day

So after our loss on Friday night, I have to rely on basketball to get my Michigan fix. Luckily, basketball is on tonight. Both men and women's so I'll have a couple of games to watch. It's a rarity to be able to watch the women's team as they don't put them on TV too often but they are pretty good this year and I believe, ranked in the top 10. We won't talk about the men's team.

Today's post is one of my more popular collections as in not too many people care for my White Sox or Michigan and that's what the majority of my collections are. But not today, today is Vintage!

All these came from baseballcardstore.ca. I had some money left over from a card show and figured I'd make a purchase there. Their cards are now a nickel which was great, but that's because they raised their shipping rates so after all was said and done, they all ended up costing me a dime a piece anyways. I checked some of the sets that I was close to finishing just to see what I needed. The 1981 Fleer set is now 78.9% completed. The 1982 Donruss set is now 80% complete. The 1986 Donruss set is now 91.5% complete, I only need 56 more. The 1987 Donruss set is now 75.9% complete.

All but the last card, were extra from Sportlots. As in, I picked them up from sellers that I was already buying cards from so I added these while I was still in the shipping range I was in.

These 2 only give me 77 cards from the 1983 Donruss set.

These 2 from 1978 Topps give me 184 cards.

These 4 from the 1977 Topps set give me 261 cards.

This 1974 Topps puts me at 311 cards.

This 1971 Topps give me 118 cards.

This 1963 Topps gives me 15 cards.

I picked these up from the same seller. When I saw a bunch of 1960 Topps for $.30/each I jumped on them.  They were listed as the same grade as most of the other cards above but as you can tell, they are a little more worse for the wear. I'll keep them and if I ever get close to completing it (probably never), I'll upgrade some of them. These 22 cards give me 70 cards from this set.

This 1959 Topps didn't come from Sportslots though, it came from Dennis at Too Many Verlanders. He sent me a huge Christmas package and while this is technically a White Sox collection card, I had to show it on the vintage post too because it's a true vintage card.

Back to the Sportslots cards, I picked up this 1958 Topps, it's my 22nd card from that set.

Lastly, I picked up this 1955 Bowman. It's only my 5th card from that set so I have a long ways to go.

Even though I've been buying a ton of player collection on Sportslots, I've been picking off quite a bit of Vintage as well. One of my fears of searching player collections is that it will leave my other ones bare but I've been picking up vintage here and there and my team collections I've been grabbing at shows so it's worked out.

Sluggo - Vintage (1973-1970)

Back to work today, damn it! 2 weeks off makes it really hard to go back but after going back, I'm still here posting so that's a positive. These are the times I tend to stop posting because I get to tired after work.

I will continue on with some more vintage from Sluggo. Today, we'll get through the rest of the 70's.

Sluggo gave me 10 or 12 cards from the 1973 set but I had most of them as that's one of the sets I'm over half way completed. These 2 are pretty good cards regardless, especially for free. I'll always take Munson cards, even if he did play for the Yankees.  These 2 put the set at 457 cards for a 69% completed.

I also got 2 more for the 1972 set. These only give me 64 cards for that set which is good for 8% completed.

These 9 cards, plus the 1 below from the 1971 set definitely helped it along. They put the set at 107 cards and 14% completed.

I separated this one because it also goes to my Tom Seaver collection. This card gave me 370 different cards of Tom Terrific.

Last but not least, these 4 cards from the 1970 set put it at 63 cards and 8.7% completed. Yes, that's a former Wolverine at the end and no, I'm not completed with the vintage posts. Tomorrow will head to the 60's.

11 card Tuesday

I had a fairly big mail day as far as the cheap cards I get are concerned. I got 4 envelopes with 11 cards but I did get something I wasn't expecting or even knew existed.

I picked up 2 more Gary Carter's for the collection although it may only be 1, according to my records, I already have the Fleer All-Star but I won't know for sure until I put them away. Sometimes I guess at what I have because I'm not in the mood to check. I'm only out a quarter. I picked up the Topps Mini for only $.06/shipped. It is my 105th Gary Carter for that collection and my 5th picked up this year.

I picked up these 2 for the 1979 set. They were only $.16/each/shipped and these cards put that set at 314 cards in that set.

I picked up all 6 of these from the 1970 set from the same seller. I bid on a ton more but those are the only ones I got for under a quarter. I paid $.23/shipped for 5 of them and $.16/shipped for the Gene Mauch. These 6 cards from the 1970 set put that at 42 cards and along with the 1979 cards above, I have picked up 224 cards for the collection this year.

I was surprised when this card came, not because I didn't order it but rather, because it came from Japan. So this guy had to really lose out on some money with his shipping. I won it for $.20/shipped. On top of that, it's technically not the card I ordered (not that I'm complaining about that). Here is the original back and the back of mine, side by side.

As you can see, mine has Japanese (I assume) on the back of it. I didn't realize they did this in other countries. Obviously, I know about Leaf and O-Pee-Chee and have seen those and I've seen Japanese cards but I didn't know they had duplicate sets with another language on the back. This is my 145th card of Michael Jordan and is only my 2nd pick-up of him this year.

The 4 Texas Rangers and the 3 Los Angeles Dodgers from 1984 Topps were both individual lots as was the Steve Garvey's and Rollie Fingers'. The Garvey and Fingers lots were 3 cards each but you only get to see one each of those in this post and the price paid is divided between all the cards in the lot that I needed.
