Last cards of 2023

When I met up with Kevin before the show last weekend, he brought me a bunch of cards that he pulled from his sorting duties plus he picked up a collection. It gave me a milestone tonight, well, technically, last week. We'll go through the cards first.

I didn't know what these were but upon looking them up on TCDB, they are the 2005 Champions from Danbury Mint, they each came in plastic cases that I had to use scissors to free them from. I would have preferred to get some of the top names (4 of them are PC's) but they are still pretty cool.

A few oddball stuff from the earlier days of my collecting. The first 2 are from Coca-Cola, then Toys 'r' us. The bottom row is Denny's followed by a Fleer sticker back.

A couple of scans of newer cards as well. Rookies and stars, even an old coach. I didn't realize how many of those Chrome anniversary cards they put out for each team as I keep getting more and more of them. I have 235 of Tim Anderson, 154 of Lucas Giolito and 278 of Jose Abreu.

He also gave me a team card which I don't get too often anymore. I really need to pick up more of these Heritage team cards. I always forget about them until I see one.

Some more old school Strawberry's. A Fleer mini set and another Denny's Grand Slam of him. These 2 give me 159 of Darryl.

I also received a later Dwight Gooden. This gives me 164 cards of Doc K.

2 more of our now former closer. As I said, I keep getting these Chrome Platinum Anniversary cards. These 2 give me 39 cards of Liam. I hope he lands back on his feet.

Another Chrome Anniversary, this time of Eloy. This is my 212th card of Jimenez.

I'm not sure how I didn't have that Jim Abbott, I've probably skimmed right past hundereds of them doing my sorting and thought I already had it. It is my 288th card of him. You also see I did get 1 of my PC players from those card from Danbury Mint which I was happy to see. This is my 387th card of Buehrle.

I thought I had this one as well but it's apparently the silver parallel. I can't imagine how many parallels I went past before I used TCDB. This is my 127th card of our current coach.

2 more former Wolverines picked up. I have a bunch of Charles Woodson in the maize and blue because Panini pumps out a few a year. This is my 59th card of Woodson. I picked up another of Taco as well, this parallel is my 27th of him.

Another of PK, nice. I've picked up a few of him in the last month or so which is great. Another Chrome Platinum as well. This is my 763rd card of Konerko.

I told you at the beginning that I hit a milestone on my last pickups of last year. These 41 cards put me over 10,000 cards added to my collection in 2023. 10,016 to be exact. As I've said in previous posts, I've done that by spending less than half of what I did in 2022. I spent just over $1100 in 2023 as compared to just over $2100 to get just under 2400 cards in 2022. I would say it was definitely a byproduct of all the free cards I get from sorting.

As I've also said above, these were the last cards that I received in 2023, I logged them in (which is the day I consider them received) on New Years Eve day.

Angels on the blog

Just a quick post tonight. It's another Tier 2 collection with a bunch of cards. 

Those top 2 cards or oddballs are bigger than the average cards. I wish I would have thrown a regular sized card in the scan but I didn't think about it. That big head is one of those Heads Up.

Lots of oddball stuff. The '90 Topps there in the middle is actually an O-Pee-Chee.

These kinds of cards are always fun. A few cards that I hadn't seen before which is always cool. These 18 cards give me 276 cards of Mr. Abbott.

Damn Yankee

Just a quick post tonight. I've only got one card to show and while he's a Michigan grad, I actually collected him before I collected Michigan guys. That should narrow it down to a couple of players. I think he might be the only player I collect that played for the Yankees, does that help narrow it down more.

I got this one card of Jim Abbott from Dennis of Too Many Verlanders. He picked up a bunch of Finest from multiple years as you will see here as well on other blogs because he's so generous.

This card gives me 258 cards of the former Sox and Wolverine.

All of the above came from a couple of different shipments of Sportlots. A whole lot of Jim going on up there. 62 cards to be exact, that is a nice boost to the collection.

I picked this up in a dime box at my LCS. I didn't even know Dairy Queen had cards. My son works there now, I told him that I was disappointed that he didn't tell me. It was released 12 years before he was born though so I had to let him off the hook.

Last but not least, this one came from Dennis of Too Many Verlanders way back in June, I'm in a little slow which is why there are so many cards on this post. It's listed on TCDB as a 1989 Stat Back, it doesn't really have a manufacturer listed anywhere but it says no major league record on the stats, on the back so it's pre-majors.

These 64 cards give me 257 cards of Jim.

Ninety's Abbott

Had a decent time camping, just chilled. To be honest, I felt like I could have been home working on my cards. My daughter, who's almost 19, was hardly around and my son, who's almost 17, pretty much hung out around me most of the weekend so it was good bonding time with him.

I'm glad I wasn't home to watch the Sox as we got swept this weekend. I did have some time this morning to continue logging my past Sportlots cards in. I really need to stop letting my box get up to 500 cards before I ship them, it takes forever to get through them.

The random gave us a player collection for today. I still have one more post of this player to go so these are all between 1992-1994.

This is what's left of the 1992. The Pinnacle is the normal sized card, the other 2 are the micro mini's.

These are an assortment of 1993's. A couple of Score's at the top followed by the back of a Donruss Triple Play with Wade Boggs on the front. The bottom row is a Duracell (which I had never seen before) and a Bowman.

In the Topps section, you see a home team advantage followed by the micros. The bottom row is the traded and the Stadium Club Member's Only.

These are all 1993 Upper Deck's. The first is an On Deck insert, followed by the Community Heroes insert and a Fun Pack set. The bottom card is the 5th Anniversary set insert. I'm not a big fan when they superimpose other pics across the top like that.

On to the 1994, these are all Donruss. Their flagship followed by the Special Edition. The bottom row is the Studio and the Triple Play. I like the Studio set with the locker room background, other than it being the Yankees.

This is the other section from 1994 with everything from Pacific to Oscar Meyer. The top row is Pacific, Leaf Limited and Score Gold Rush. The bottom row is the O-Pee-Chee, Oscar Meyer and an oversized Fleer Extra Bases.

Next up is the dupes section, not really but it looks like it. The top is the flagship and the gold version. The Stadium Club photograph is pretty cool, the other one is the Member's Only. The bottom row is a Bowman and another Stadium Club but the team version.

Last but not least, because it's more or less alphabetically, the 1994 Upper Deck. You have the Collector's Choice's at the top with the base and the silver signature. The middle card is the Denny's hologram version followed by another Fun Pack at the bottom.

150+ for Jimmy

I don't have much to say tonight. I've been working 10 hour days again but this time going in at 4 am so I'm tired so we'll just get to the cards, that's why you're all here anyways.

Some of these didn't make it to the previous Sportlots package but they're here now. I use the box because I don't mind waiting when I'm saving that kind of money.

We'll start off with one lone 1989 of Abbott. I do like the straight on view so you can see how he held his glove while pitching.

Next up are the 1990, the Score is a Young Superstars. The other 2 are cool because they are oddballs. I've said before that I wish food companies would add cards again. Maybe with the boom in cards again, we'll see it. The top right is Wonder Bread and the bottom is King B. I've seen the King B's before but not the Wonder Bread. Didn't even know they had cards.

You get another oddball with the 1991 Post, I obviously new about the Cereal cards, those date back quite a few years. Another Topps Micro, I picked up a bunch of those from Sportlots but just one for today's post. Also a Classic.

No, they're not technically duplicates. I bought them as variations. I didn't realize at the time the only variation is an extra asterisk. I don't normally buy those, as long as I have one, I don't care about the others. Otherwise I'd have to be buying 4 different copies of 90's Donruss. If I end up with one, I'll keep it but I don't actively search them out.

Then you have these. I did pick up all 4 of these variations as they have a different hologram on the back.

My thought on the difference of these and the asterisk is I feel like the hologram was an intentional difference. The asterisk, I feel, was just a printing error. I could be wrong and probably am but there you go. BTW-that bottom left card also goes to the Michigan Collection.

Speaking of variations, more from 1992. On the Topps side again (the McDonalds were Topps). The left are the Winners and the right are the Gold parallel. I wasn't even aware of the Winners parallel until maybe last year.

The Upper Deck and a couple of oddballs from 1992. There were a ton of the Comic cards on the right but I just picked up a few of them rather than dropping a bunch of money on one set. The 1970 look-a-like is a Baseball Card Magazine card and the bottom is a Pinnacle sticker.

I also picked up the Bowman, a couple of Classics, a Leaf Black Gold and a Jimmy Dean.

On to 1993, you know, the Yankee years. I do love the Studio's with the uniform logo in the background. The Sox ones look awesome. I'm not sure if I had seen the Glow Stars before and of course, another Gold parallel.

Lastly, I picked up the 2020 A&G. I grabbed this from a seller that I only had 1 card from. I usually try to buy a minimum of 4 because of the price range and to make it worth the seller shipping at a discount and I buy so cheap.

These 33 cards put my Abbott collection at 157 cards. I'm still working my way through his cards on Sportlots so there will be more to come in the next package.
