Now we get to the nitty gritty, not really but I wanted to say it. We’ve seen 1987-1985 the last few days but now we are going to see 1984-1980.
1984 Donruss – Alejandro Pena, Tim Teufel, Tony Fernandez, Pat Sheridan and Marvell Wynne
I know, you’re shocked that I have more 5 card lots, but I do. I paid a little more for this one but still way under budget. I grabbed these 5 for $.39.
1983 Fleer – Steve Sax, Pedro Guerrero, Eddie Murray, Bill Madlock and Tim Wallach
Another stars lot, grabbed this one for $.25. Have I mentioned my infinity for Fleer. I know, I’ll shut up.
1983 Topps – Eddie Murray, Jesse Barfield, Jim Rice, Bill Madlock and Tim Wallach
Another 5 card lot of stars and another quarter. Don’t worry, this is the last of the 5 card lots and this is also the last of the 80’s cards so come back tomorrow for some 70’s and 60’s.
Here’s the rundown on how much I’ve paid and to which collection so far in the Cheaper Than Stamps series.
Barry Larkin (7) $.82 – $.12/card
Bill Melton (4) $1.60 – $.40/card
Cal Ripken jr (26) $5.12 – $.20/card
Carl Yastrzemski (8) $3.07 – $.38/card
Carlton Fisk (2) $.66 – $.33/card

Gary Carter (12) $2.07 – $.17/card
Hoyt Wilhelm (4) $1.25 – $.31/card
Jim Abbott (8) $2.33 – $.29/card
Johnny Bench (8) $2.05 – $.26/card
Mark Buehrle (2) $.45 – $.23/card
Michael Jordan (13) $1.91 – $.25/card
Mike Schmidt (7) $1.97 – $.28/card
Paul Konerko (3) $.70 – $.23/card
Ryan Zimmerman (10) $2.65 – $.27/card
Shoeless Joe Jackson (1) $.15 – $.15/card

Vintage Collections
1980's (276) $40.67 – $.15/card
1970's (19) $4.63 – $.24/card
1960's (7) $1.98 – $.28/card
Team Collections
White Sox (1) $.15 – $.15/card
This is a series where I show off cards I need for my PC’s that I pick up on Ebay for cheaper than a stamp. My maximum I spend on these cards is actually $.30 so I get them quite a bit cheaper than a stamp.
We left off on 1985, mainly because I’ve picked up a crap load from 1984 so it will get it’s own post.
1984 Topps – Bill Doran, Marvell Wynne and Pat Sheridan
I’ve scanned all these in sets of 3, some came in singles, some came as lots. So you’ll just have to trust me that I paid less than a quarter for all the cards in this post.
1984 Topps – Allan Ramirez, Jack Fimple and Andy Van Slyke
I remember the Van Slyke being one of the must have rookie cards.
1984 Topps – Dan Morogiello, Charlie Hudson and Dave Anderson
I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of the first guy and I can’t say that about too many players in the 1980’s.
1984 Fleer – Tom Brennan, Mark Clear and Andy Van Slyke
That’s right, I got 2 of the must have Van Slyke rookies, woo hoo!
1984 Fleer – Mike Boddicker, Steve Sax, Dickie Thon, Tim Raines and Al Oliver
I know I picked up these 5 in a lot and I could probably check and see how much I paid, but I need to get some post done and we know we all just come for pics of the cards.
1984 Donruss – Dave Anderson, Scott Garrelts and Gary Pettis
Woo hoo, I got 2 of the 1984 Dave Anderson’s. I know, not as exciting as Andy Van Slyke but hey, you go with what you got. If you would have asked me what Gary Pettis’ rookie card was I would have said 1985, so I’m guessing maybe the Topps was just a FTC or in other words, we sucked and didn’t get him in last years set.
1984 Donruss – Bill Doran, Mike Young and John Stefero
I picked up a bunch of 1984 Donruss lots as you can tell. Well, maybe not yet but you’ll notice by the time you get to the end of this post.
1984 Donruss – Danny Cox, Gerry Willard and Brook Jacoby
While I remember having 1984 Donruss as a kid, I don’t remember having a lot of them. The local drug store must not have carried them often so I don’t recognize a lot of these cards like I do Fleer or Topps.
1984 Donruss – Kevin Gross, Dennis Rasmussen and Charlie Hudson
You got to love the San Diego Padres colors although those are the colors I associate with them even to this day. I do, without sarcasm, love the Phillies powder blues though.
1984 Donruss – Allan Ramirez, Ray Fontenot and Jack Fimple
Now that I’m typing out the names for all these cards, I’m realizing I picked up multiple cards for some of the players. I have the Topps versions of Ramirez and Fimple.
1984 Donruss – Tom Henke, Gerald Perry and Butch Davis
I picture Henke with the Toronto Blue Jays. Powder blue uniforms with the Kansas City Royals though, must have been a color of the time.
1984 Donruss – Mike Stenhouse, Andy Van Slyke and Curt Wilkerson
Well looky there, I have all 3 Van Slykes. I truly didn’t realize I had all 3 until just now. The Stenhouse is the error version with no number on the back.
1984 Donruss – Mike Jeffcoat, Brian Dayett and Chris Smith
As you can tell, I picked up a lot of the Rated Rookies. Technically I have 2 lots of 5 cards of them.
1984 Donruss – Greg Gagne, Mike Fuentes and Mike Brown
I’m not sure what denotes who gets a red flag and who gets a blue flag. So far the Montreal Expos are the only team that is red. I remember Gagne being with the Minnesota Twins for a long time and was a pretty good player.
1984 Donruss – Tom Dunbar, Angel Salazar and Doug Frobel
OK, maybe it’s not just the Expos with the red flags. I suppose I should go and Google and find out.
This is the last of the 1984’s. Check back for some older cards soon.
