Breakfast at Tiffany's

Well the Sox are still a couple games over .500, that's a shocker with the way we've played this year so we went ahead and didn't do anything at the trade deadline (we got one left reliever from the other Sox). Doesn't sound right but I'm not a GM so what do I know.

In Michigan news, I saw Tommy Henry got his debut for the DBacks which in my mind means maybe they'll make more cards of him. I'm all for more cards.

Today's post, however, doesn't have anything to do with either team which narrows down who it is. If I said it was only one of two Tier 1 collection players to not have played either at Michigan or the White Sox, would you figure it out?

As you can see, the card on the top right is O-Pee-Chee but what you can't tell is the other 3 cards are all Tiffany. It's always good to add Dravecky cards because he doesn't have many and I have all the easy stuff, now I'm picking up oddballs and parallels such as the above. These 4 give me 64 of 106 which is 60% of all his cards.

Donruss mistakes

I went over to my cousin's to work on pricing cards since we're getting ready to set up at a show in about a month from now. We're both pretty particular about how cards are presented at shows. We won't even stop at a table if there isn't prices so we make sure everything we have for sale is priced. Today we worked on dollar and up cards. We have a $1 box, $2 box, $3 box, $5 box and an $8 and up. Our showcases showed up in the mail today as well so one less thing to worry about. He's done a ton of shows, this will be my first so I'm a little nervous about it. I'll be heading over tomorrow for some more. We have most of baseball and football done so we'll probably work on basketball tomorrow.

Today, you get a tier 1 player that we haven't seen since December of last year. It's also a player that I have over 50% of his cards that are listed on TCDB so it's always nice to add to it.

I actually have this card, sort of. This is the error version and I already had the corrected. They mispelled the artists name on the back. It's not quite as annoying as all the trademark differences on the late 80's, early 90's stuff. I am collecting those versions as well but once I have one of them, I don't seek out the others but if I run across it, I'll keep it. I picked this up going through Sluggo's junk wax. There were a few hundred cards that weren't junk wax mixed in.

I thought for a new series that I could post on each of my player collections birthdays. I actually meant to start this at the beginning of the month but I missed a couple, oops! This will also be a way of showcasing that players cards and in a year, I can see if that collection has grown and by how much.

Not to mention with all the Michigan guys I collect, this will be quite a few posts.

While Rob at Blue Batting Helmet gave me my first 2 cards when I announced this collection, Rod of Padrographs gave me my first big chunk when it got going.

I only have 4 post-career cards of him which is why TCDB only has him with 92 cards, they don't make too many of him anymore so this collection doesn't get added to very often (other than that last lot from Sportlots).

Most of you know the story of Dravecky, that he developed Cancer in his arm, rushed back afterwards to get back and in his 2nd start back, shattered his arm, ending his season and career. In the postseason celebration at the end of the 1989 season, he broke his arm again. They found more cancer and ended up amputating his arm.

He wrote a book about it

The reason I collect him is when I was a kid, my father developed cancer in his arm. They amputated it above the elbow but didn't get it all and it ended up going to his lungs and killing him. So when Dave Dravecky started having the above issues, it connected with me and I've always remembered his story because of it.

It's MonDave

Don't ask about the title, it gets hard to be creative all the time. It's Monday and the post is about Dave. Yeah, I said it wasn't that creative.

I was going to do a quick post before bed, but this guy came up. He's a Tier 1 collection so I went through Sportlots and bought everything I didn't have that was under $.50.

That first card is the 125th Anniversary Parallel. I had never seen the bottom card before, it's from the 1993 UD All-Time Heroes set.

The top 2 are Fleer Glossy, the middle 2 are Topps Tiffany and the bottom 2 are both Mother's Cookies.

This whole pic are all stickers. I know it looks like a bunch of dupes but I picked up the base stickers and the O-Pee-Chee brand stickers and than the bottom stickers where there are 3, one is a hardback issue.

I actually scanned the backs just to so you can see that there is a difference. To be honest, I wasn't even aware that they had O-Pee-Chee stickers so it was all new to me.

These 18 cards/stickers put the Dravecky collection at 59 cards which is actually good for 64% of his cards. He only has 92 listed on TCDB.

Tier 1 Collections

I'm sitting in my card room and am bored. I'm not really in the mood to go through cards or work on scanning stuff for TCDB or even watching TV. So I'm just kind of sitting here thinking of something to do. I figure it was as good as time as any to put out a post so I put my posts on random and you'll get 4 different player collection pick-ups today. All of Tier 1 players. I'm even going to do them in alphabetical order just because that's how I have them listed in my scan folders.

I went and picked this up on my shopping spree in the virtual dimebox that is Baseballcardstore.ca. It was a dime but if you include shipping, it added another dime but I'll still take an Aparicio for $.20. This card is number 101 of his collection.

I thought I had the Fleer update on the left but I apparently had the glossy version and not just the regular base card. This is where having my cards logged into TCDB comes in handy. The one on the right is an O-Pee-Chee version in case you hadn't noticed. I paid $.15 for the Fleer and $.16 for the O-Pee-Chee on Cardbarrel. These 2 make 41 for his collection which doesn't seem like a lot but according to TCDB, he only has 89 so I'm almost half way there. Although technically, I believe I have a couple of signed cards that I got from Padrographs and those aren't on TCDB.

Always happy to see more Mike Hart cards come in. I don't find his too often, including these, I've only picked up 4 this year. He would be the only football player I have in my Tier 1 collections. These 3 came from the latest (big) package from Dennis of Too Many Verlanders. These 3 give me 47 cards of his.

These 4 came from the Baseballcardstore.ca for $.20/each.

These 4 came from Cardbarrel. The SP was $.45, the Fleer $.36 and the 2 Pacific ones at the bottom were $.15/each.

My Billy Williams collection has really benefited from getting away from Ebay as I have now picked up 15 cards this year, the last time I added to his collection before this year was 2 cards in 2017. I now have 77 cards in his collection.
