Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Shipshy Stuff

Another weekend, another show. Yesterday's show in Buchanan was ran by a 15 year old. The same 15 year old that pulled that Ohtani die cut, numbered to /99 autograph from a Mega we sold him over a year ago. He's come a long way just in the time we've know him. His father gave him some start up money and he started doing breaks. He still does them, along with setting up at shows and now running one. His father said that he paid him all back within 6 months and is essentially running his own business now and I'm guessing he makes pretty good money doing so. His father also says he plays baseball for the school and get's straight A's. To be honest, I'm kind of proud of the kid and I don't know him that well. I mean really, the best part of him is he's a Michigan fan so....

Anyways, we did his show yesterday. He had asked us if we'd be interested when he was thinking about running his own and we agreed. We've done a few shows that way, they tend to come to us because we've got a pretty good reputation. I purchased a few cards, and came home with some freebies but you'll have to wait to see those.

Today's post is cards I picked up at the Shipshewana show a couple of weeks ago.

I picked this up from the High Heat table. He used to set up across from us in Plymouth so I got to know him pretty good. He's a White Sox fan as well so we usually have things to talk about it. I just checked his table real quick before we tore down at the end of the show. I like to throw him some business but this was the only Cronenworth he had that I didn't. I'm sure I overpaid at $5 but like I said, I like the guy so that doesn't bother me. It is my 85th card of Jake.

I went to Hollister's table as well because he always has a Michigan box so I don't have to sort through a bunch of stuff to find anything. I grabbed these 5 auto's from that box. I was trying to grab auto's of guys I don't have auto's of and ended up with 3 guys that I didn't even have cards of yet. Quinn Nordin, Chris Hinton and Tarik Black. I probably won't do a PC of Black because he transferred out but I will still pick up his Michigan stuff. The Jack Blomgren is my 6th card of his but that's my 1st auto. I mainly grabbed the Kauffman because there isn't a ton of Michigan baseball cards out there so I grabbed it. It's my 3rd auto of Kauffmann out of 3 cards I have of him. I paid $15 for all 5 plus an additional auto that I picked up for Dennis.

The day after the Shipshewana show, we did the South Bend show so guess what pick ups you'll get to see tomorrow (if I post).

Mets Doctor

Down to the last 2 new PC's. Let's see who we get tonight.

I told you why I added Strawberry, this guy would be for the same reason. I was a big Mets fan pre-strike and I always got the warm fuzzies anytime I ran across their cards so I started a PC of a few of them.

These 18 cards plus the 19 cards I already had of him in the Vintage collection give me 37 cards total.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Well the Sox are still a couple games over .500, that's a shocker with the way we've played this year so we went ahead and didn't do anything at the trade deadline (we got one left reliever from the other Sox). Doesn't sound right but I'm not a GM so what do I know.

In Michigan news, I saw Tommy Henry got his debut for the DBacks which in my mind means maybe they'll make more cards of him. I'm all for more cards.

Today's post, however, doesn't have anything to do with either team which narrows down who it is. If I said it was only one of two Tier 1 collection players to not have played either at Michigan or the White Sox, would you figure it out?

As you can see, the card on the top right is O-Pee-Chee but what you can't tell is the other 3 cards are all Tiffany. It's always good to add Dravecky cards because he doesn't have many and I have all the easy stuff, now I'm picking up oddballs and parallels such as the above. These 4 give me 64 of 106 which is 60% of all his cards.

Jake, from San Diego

Today's post is a current MLB'er who played for Michigan and is having quite a bit of success. I've enjoyed picking up his cards, it's nice to have a guy who's getting a bunch of new ones as well.

I only got one to show today but it's a rookie card at that. I've been picking his up pretty quickly. This one gives me 24 cards of him now. I need to find me an auto before his prices go up even more.

Jake from Saint Claire

Today's post is a Michigan man but it's a baseball guy. He's definitely the most famous current baseball player playing in the MLB. It's been nice having another current player to collect.

These 4 cards came from the Shipshewana card show but not the dollar box which is where almost all my purchases came from. We stopped to talked to a seller that we set up with at other shows and while Sluggo talked, he's a chatty Cathy, I looked at cards he had. He had some player lots in team bags, usually around 10 cards or so. I thumbed through a bag of Cronenworth's but it had a $6 tag and I thought I only needed 3 so I passed. When I told him, he offered it for $2 so I took it. Sluggo ended up buying a couple high end cards and he just threw the player lot in for free. So technically, I paid nada. I was thinking I had the 1986 look-a-like but I have the non-Chrome version.

When I went through Sluggo's White Sox boxes, I also hit his Padres box and found these 2. The top card is a green parallel of Mosaic insert and the bottom card is a short printed Diamond King.

These 6 cards give me 23 cards of another Michigan Jake.
