Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Paul Konerko collection

I got a couple of packages in the mail that I’m going to have to get around to scanning.  Luckily, we have a 3 day weekend so I may actually get around to it.  Maybe.  One is from Judson over at “My Cardboard Habit”.  It’s 12 cards but they look better grouped together than in single pics so I’ll have to scan.  I also got another package from my cousin “Sluggo”.  He does card shows and such and he has people bring him cards and will buy out whole collections.  He goes through them, sets aside any Chicago White Sox cards he doesn’t need and then sends them to me.  He also sends me a couple of player collection cards when he runs across them.  The last package had a small stack of PC cards so those I will scan since I’ll have the scanner out.

But to today’s post, I grabbed this Paul Konerko for only $.21.  I thought I might win it because PK isn’t exactly a popular player but it’s also one of his minor league cards so I was extremely happy to win it.

Gary Carter Collection

I picked up a Gary Carter from his Montreal Expos days, gotta love the powder blues.  I picked up this oddball card for $.49.  Once again, I had to use the ebay photo as COMC didn’t have it for sell.  That means it’s rare, right?

Johnny Bench collection

I picked up a couple of Bench’s, which I have actually been doing fairly regularly since they keep putting out new cards of his.

The first card isn’t one of his newer cards but it was published almost 20 years after he retired.  I only paid $.21 for it which is always a great deal for one of the greatest catchers ever.  I had to use an ebay picture again since COMC didn’t have it listed.

The next card is one of the afore mentioned newer cards.  I picked it up for $.54 which is my max bid on cards.

Carlton Fisk Collection

It’s always nice to add a Chicago White Sox card to a player collection, especially when he’s a hall of famer.  It’s also 24 years old, which sounds great, but that’s only a 1990.  Yeah, we’re old.

I picked up this card of Carlton Fisk for $.50, which was the minimum bid otherwise I probably could have gotten it cheaper.

Steve Carlton collection

I don’t grab too many of this lefty on the cheap, I think I say that a lot, not the lefty part.  It’s definitely true with Steve Carlton though because I still only have 23 cards of him.

They didn’t have a photo on COMC so I had to use the ebay photo.  I picked up this brand new Allen & Ginter for $.50

New collections

That’s right, I have some new player collections.  Dennis will like these collections.  I decided that since I watched them all the way through their collegiate career and I try to follow their pro career as well, that I should go ahead and pick up their cards when I come across them cheap enough.  Of course, this is the only card that I’ve picked up of any of them so far.  I’ll also now have to grab 2 of them if they are in their Michigan Wolverines jerseys for the Michigan collection.  The new collections are.

  1. Tim Hardaway jr collection
  2. Trey Burke collection
  3. Glen Robinson III collection
  4. Mitch McGary collection
  5. Nik Stauskas collection
  6. Denard Robinson collection
  7. Taylor Lewan collection

I followed all of their collegiate careers as I try to watch every Michigan football and basketball game and they all should have pro cards so why not?  I get them cheap anyways, they won’t cost me much at all.

I did get my first card of those collections for $.53.

Tom Seaver Collection

I’m always very happy to get some cards of Tom Seaver for under half a buck.  Most of his cards start higher than that.

This one is reprint, which is why I was able to get it for $.25.  I didn’t have it though, but I do now.

2010 Topps Cards Your Mom Threw Out

The following card was even cheaper since it was free.  I figured since it’s a Tom Seaver, I’d throw it on here as well.  Dennis from Too Many Verlanders and the awesome Too Many Manninghams sent me a PWE with this card and a couple of Indianapolis Colts cards.

1975 Topps Mini

He said he picked it up cheap at a card show.  It’s vintage, it’s mini and it’s Tom Seaver.  It’s pretty awesome.  Thanks Dennis.

Ryan Zimmerman collection

I picked up another 2 Ryan Zimmerman cards on the cheap.

I grabbed this one for $.32 which at the time, didn’t surprise me.  It’s Opening Day after all, and on top of that it wasn’t an actual player card but I didn’t realize it was an insert until I went to get the pic off of COMC, the cheapest they had it was $.95 so I guess I should be surprised that I got it.

I also picked up this brand new card for $.30, I was definitely surprised to win this card as it’s a fairly new release but I’ve actually picked up a couple from this years offering already.  This is another ebay image as they didn’t have one listed on COMC yet.

Barry Larkin collection

After grabbing those Barry Larkin’s a few weeks ago, I was surprised to grab some more on the cheap.

I picked this one up for $.22.  It’s a 1993 Topps which shouldn’t surprise me that I got it cheap.

1993 Topps (all-star)

This one cost me a little bit more, but only $.50, but it’s also a parallel version of the 1994 Upper Deck, Electric Diamond.
