Thick cards with Stripes

Kevin and I set up at the Plymouth show today. It was probably one of the better shows we've had there. I haven't compared it to the others yet but it had to be up there. We just love that show because all the dealers get along, we actually hung out for about an hour after the show just talking and joking around. The show is at a church and the table fees go to the church and the local little league so they also sell biscuits and gravy in the morning and hot dogs and chili for lunch. All the proceeds for that go to the church as well but if you've ever done any card shows, the worst part is the majority of them don't have any food available. Most of the time, Kevin and I go all day without eating. Next week we will be in Zeeland, MI which is about an hour and 45 minutes North of us. I'm pretty sure there is no food there either but we've only been there once to buy so we'll see.

I only came home with 3 cards today but I still have a bunch to add from this previous week and I've already forgotten what was in it so if I have more cards for today's post, you won't see them until I get to February posts.

Fred at work brought me this 2021 Flagship. I have most of the Series 1 so if I remember, this was Series 2. Fred has a knack for bringing me cards that I don't have. He brought me a 1994 Score last week, I was like, surely I have this, nope. If I didn't know any better, he was looking on my TCDB but as far as I know, he's not very computer savy.

Sluggo gave me these 2 cards of the runner up to the Cy Young award last year. The top one is the Royal Blue version, the bottom is last years Heritage. He gave me a bunch of Heritage that I didn't have that you'll see in later posts.

I mentioned before that I picked up some autos and relics at my LCS in his $3 or 4 for $10 box. That's where this came from. I have 3 auto's of Cease but this is my first relic. The pseuco-1988 Donruss was one of those thick cards.

These 4 cards give me 80 of Dylan, whom I'm expecting great things from this year.

New Additions - Vintage Collection, 1983

*For those new to the blog, all purchases were made on Ebay (unless otherwise noted) and all were under $.50/shipped.

I'm listing Ebay stuff but also I got an awesome package from Dennis over at "Too Many Verlanders" and my favorite "Too Many Manninghams", although you'll see a lot of that great stuff on the TMM blog whenever I get that post together. I also received 2 huge packages of mainly White Sox cards from Jeff over at "2 x 3 Heroes" as well and both guys also sent a bunch of vintage. I'm also randomizing the posts so let's see what's next.

Jeff added 14 more to the Vintage collection, representing all 3 major brands in 1983.

I even managed to pick up 2 more for the Fleer and Topps set from Ebay.

Cheaper Than Stamps #19

This is a series where I show off cards I need for my PC’s that I pick up on Ebay for cheaper than a stamp.  My maximum I spend on these cards is actually $.30 so I get them quite a bit cheaper than a stamp.

1982 Topps Future Stars – Mark Davis, Bob Dernier and Ozzie Virgil. Steve Balboni, Andy McGaffigan and Andre Robertson.  Frank DiPino, Marshall Edwards and Chuck Porter.  Vance Law, Bob Long and Johnny Ray.  Jody Davis

Love the hockey stick set.  I picked all 5 of these up in a lot for $.54 which goes down to just under $.11 a card.  I definitely remember Jody Davis being as I’m not too far from Chicago.  Also Bob Dernier for the same reason.  I remember the Johnny Ray rookies being hot at a time too.

1982 Fleer – Johnny Ray and Mike Marshall

Without looking, I’m pretty sure both of these are rookie cards.  It’s amazing what comes back when you look at cards from your childhood.  I love this set, I’m not sure why.

1982 Donruss – Johnny Ray, Mike Marshall and Steve Sax

I picked up these in 5 card lots.  Again, all 3 of these are rookies.  So I happened to pick up all 3 Johnny Ray rookies and 2 of Mike Marshall’s.  I can’t complain about getting a Steve Sax rookie either.

1982 Donruss – Von Hayes, Brett Butler and Darryl Motley

Off the top of my head, I know the Brett Butler is a rookie as well.  Maybe they were both rookie lots that I picked up.

1982 Donruss – Tim Wallach and Jody Davis

Another Jody Davis rookie and Tim Wallach was a fairly big name in the 1980’s or at least that’s the way I remember it.

 

1981 Fleer – Joe Torre                  1981 Donruss – Jim Kaat

I went ahead and threw these 2 1981’s on this post as well since they are the only 2 I got from that year.  Haven’t really ran across a whole lot of Topps and when I do, I have over half the set already.

I picked up these 2 cards as singles.  I paid $.16 for the Joe Torre and it came in a lot of 3 of that card.  I got the Jim Kaat for $.15.

I’ll save the 1980 for the next post because I picked up quite a few of those.
