Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

3rd base legend

Today, we traveled up to Lansing to the card show there. It was a great show as far as attendance but our sales were down compared to our last one. We usually have a couple bigger sales that bump up the sales but we didn't have any today. We had a couple of mid-range sales but nothing big. It was still a great show financially, just not as much as we were expecting. On the plus side, Kevin bought a couple of 3 throw boxes of half off cards from Hollister's, who knows Michigan players so he always throws a bunch in. So I spent part of the show going through those boxes and filling up on cards for myself. The bad part is, I spent a fortune that I was trying not to spend. Damn Kevin! I'll log those in today so you'll start to see those mixed in with the current posts.

Today's post is a guy I rarely get to add to so it was great to pick these up. He's probably my favorite 3rd baseman of all time but I'm partial to him as he was our World Series hero.

I did only get only one though but it was appreciated. Dennis sent this to me in his Christmas package. It is numbered to /999. I have another one of these HR derby contest cards, I want to say it's a Konerko.

I picked up a couple more cards for Dennis today as well so I might almost be ready to send a package his way soon.

This is my 182nd card of Joe. Last I looked, I was #1 on TCDB. Apparently somebody logged in over 300 of his so now I'm #2.

Joe Green Relic

Sox finally won a couple but we're playing Houston next so I'm not getting too excited.

Today's post is one of my favorite 3rd basemen and definitely my favorite 3rd basemen of the Sox.

First off is the Sportlots purchase with some minor league and major league cards. The Gold Label would be a cooler card if the pics of him weren't overlapping on themselves.

Dennis of Too Many Verlander fame sent me this Crede relic which I really love to see as I don't run across to many of his anymore.  It's a green variation which are numbered to /150. It's only my 4th relic of Joe.

These 9 cards put me at 181 cards, slowly closing in on that 200 mark. I got a 50+ card lead for #1 on TCDB.

3rd baseman on the 3rd work day

Sox were on TV today but I didn't get the chance to watch it yet. I saw Dylan Cease pitched, who pitched well his last outing and Texas didn't score so I assume he did well. I haven't read on it yet but I do plan on watching it tomorrow.

Speaking of the White Sox, let's flash back 17 years to the summer of 2005 where this guy was a big component to our championship team.

I picked up this numbered rookie of Joe Crede in a dollar box which with all the cards I picked out, got discounted to about $.78. I haven't picked up many Crede cards in awhile because they are harder to come by.

This is my 172nd card of Joe.

Jooeeee!

Today's post is one of my favorite 3rd basemen of all time. His time in baseball was cut short because of back problems but I loved his glove and bat, especially during our championship run in 2005.

These 3 from 2002, 2 Fleer which isn't surprising since they put out a ton of sets in this era. I like the look of the bottom card.

Speaking of our championship year, although technically since they are 2005 cards, they have 2004 photos and stats. I like the Champions card but I feel that they could have done more with it. So much empty space. You know I like the Heritage as well.

These would be the 2005 pics and stats because they are 2006 cards. Lots of Bowman up there. Great action shot on the Ultra.

One more Bowman, but this one is from 2007.

All 2009 Topps variations and sets with the same design. Sadly, this was when Joe left the South Side for the Twinkies.

Lastly, one card from 2010 which was his last year playing.

These 19 cards give me 171 of Joe. I have a healthy lead on TCDB.

Crede Collection

Today's post is a guy you've seen here before recently but I got more of his cards in my latest Sportlots package. In the previous 7 years before using Sportlots, I had only picked up 21 cards of this 3rd baseman. In the last 2 years, since using Sportlots, I've added 65 and I'm not done with going through each year yet. I haven't even reached 2005 yet which is where he made a name for himself.

These 4 cards are all from 2000. A couple of minor league cards along with Joe's first Bowman and the Chrome prospects card. I don't think I even knew what Chrome was back then.

Another minor league card in there. These are all from 2001. The Fleer Futures at the bottom is a pretty cool card.

These are all 2001 Topps (including Bowman). The Topps Stars at the bottom right is the better looking card here. I like the black background.

These 3 are all from Donruss. Now that I'm looking at the cards posted, there are some pretty cool cards here. I like that Elite at the bottom as well.

Some 2002 Fleer cards. The bottom card is the gold back version.

A couple of Topps from 2002 as well. Am I the only one that feels like Heritage hasn't been around for that long?

Some 2002 Upper Deck. Crede with a couple cards with rookie on it even though I've showed 2 years previous. I do like the Ballpark Idols card.

These 3 cards didn't actually come from Sportlots but from the breakers club from Chris at Nachos Grande.

With these 28 additions, it bumps up the Crede Collection to 131 cards.

Favorite Sox 3rd Basemen

So, let me explain how I do the random for this blog. I have a list of the players and how many cards. I combine them into posts. If I have a few cards each of Michigan alumn, I combine them. Same with Sox players. If I have a bunch of cards, that player will get their own post. I have them listed out, I copy and paste them into random.org and randomize it 3 times.

I explain this because the last 2 players that came up were Paul Konerko and Mark Buehrle, both of the 2005 White Sox Champions. Todays random is adding a 3rd in a row from that team. I do have 1 more, I wonder if he will come up next. You'll see why today's player got his own post.

These 3 cards came from my baseballcardstore.ca purchase so they were $.20/each.

From the 2 cards above all the way to the bottom all came from Card Barrel. The 2 above I paid $.16 for the base and $.40 for the red framed.

A couple of horizontal cards.

As you can see, I got quite a few from his early days with the Sox.

I showed the 2007 back because it's a red back version. I didn't even know that was a thing until this card popped up.

That's all for the White Sox portion. Joe spent his final season in Minnesota and I did grab a couple of those as well. I know he had all kinds of back problems so I wonder if that's why the Sox didn't sign him and he went to the Twins. I know he signed as a free agent and I don't remember there being any hard feelings but who knows, that was over 10 years ago and I'm old.

In all, I added 27 more cards of my favorite Sox 3rd baseman. I basically picked up every card that I didn't have from Card Barrel.

In the last 6 years I've picked up only 21 cards of Joe Crede. I'm currently at 37 for this year. This huge pick up helped me hit the century mark as well with 103 now.

WS Stud

* I put my April incoming on random for today's post.

Just a couple of cards today but they are of my favorite White Sox 3rd basemen. When I was doing the Ebay thing, I didn't hardly ever come across his cards, but these 2 cards make 9 already this year. I only had 2 new cards in the last 3 years. Although these 2 weren't purchases, both came from other peeps.

I told you yesterday that Chris had sent me a stack of Sox cards and this was one of them.

This set was featured on a couple of cards yesterday as well so I'm sure Chris didn't even know he was hitting a player collection (he hit a couple of them.) Like I said yesterday, I like the vintage look on more modern players. Check him out at Nachos Grande.

My cousin also hooked me up with a Crede, a relic one at that. It's not a bad looking card for an older (2002) relic card. According to TCDB, it's a short print with a print run of 250.

These 2 cards of Joe Crede give me 75 of him. I hate that he had back problems that shortened his career because he was a great 3rd baseman.

WS Hero

* I put my February purchases on random for today's post.

You finally get more than a 1 card post, although you may not know him much unless you are a Sox fan. He was a huge part of our success in 2005 and I think I can honestly say, he was the best defensive 3rd baseman that I've seen play. Granted, I haven't seen a ton of player unless they played with the Sox. Highlight reels don't count, you can make anyone look decent with a reel.

I'll start with this update since I was talking about him being a hero that season. I thought I had this but apparently he made 2 of these World Series cards from update.

Joe did play for one other team but all the cards I got this time were all from the White Sox. I wish his back would have stayed healthy because I loved watching him play.

I liked this card because it's more or less a rookie card. It's from 2000 Bowman, I figured it was a rookie insert set or something but apparently it's a parallel set. From what I gathered, the rookie's looked liked this and the more veteran players looked more like the old TV Bowman with the rounded TV screen.

These 4 cards of Crede give me 71 cards of his. This also makes 7 that I've picked up so far this year. I've only picked up 2 in the last 3 years which is all the more proof that I made the right decision to ditch Ebay for Sportlots.

World Series Hero

I put my January purchases on random for today's post.

Today is a great post. It's a player I rarely add cards to his collection and while he's not my favorite Sox player, he's up there pretty far. I liked him before he became one our 2005 World Series heroes.

The top 2 look familiar, I would have guessed I had them but I didn't have them listed on TCDB. The bottom card I don't think I've ever seen that set before. I'm familiar with Platinum but that blue with yellow stripes I have never seen before. These 3 cards put my Crede collection at 67 cards but remember how I said that I don't add cards that often. I only added 1 card last year, and 1 card the year before that, none in 2017. So the 3 cards today are the most since 2016 that I added. When I shopped on Ebay, his cards just didn't come up much so I sought out a few on Sportlots.

Weekend Catch-Up

Alrighty, I'm back. This was the weekend of our fall camping trip so all the cards in this post came between Friday and today. Sadly, that means I have to go back to work tomorrow. Some of the descriptions will be short because it's a longer than usual post.

I'll start off with my lone Michigan collection card. Everything else in this post are White Sox cards. This is my 4th card of the former Wolverine QB. I understand they have no rights to show the team but I always wonder if there is a specific clause that says they can't show the wings on the helmet. I picked this up for $.30/shipped.

This is my 4th card of Daniel, all from 2005. I picked this up for $.28/shipped.

This card of Brandon Short is my one and only card of his. I picked it up for $.16/shipped.

This is my 36th card of the one dog (Lance Johnson since you probably can't read it in the photo). This is a 1995 Topps Embossed Golden Idols insert. I picked it up for $.23/shipped.

These first 4 cards all came from the same seller in the same envelope. I believe everything else was one card in each envelope.

This is only my 3rd card of Zack but it's my oldest. The other 2 are 2019 cards where as this is from 2016. Zack is currently on the Sox roster with September call-ups and he was called up and sent back down earlier this year. They are still talking about him being our catcher in the future. I'm not sure of McCann's contract but I can see Collins being the back up next year if not the starter if McCann is gone. I picked this up for $.54/shipped.

I now have 6 cards of Thyago and they are all autographs. This is the purple refractor, seriel numbered to /250. I picked this one up for $3.21/shipped.

This is a pretty nice card of our opening day starter. Granted, he hasn't pitched much since then because of TJ surgery but it's still a nice, shiny, on card auto. It is my 30th card of Rodon but only my 2nd autograph. I picked this up for $3.18/shipped.

Last but definitely not least, the only player collection addition today and it's a PC that I hardly ever get cards for. I just assume because he's not hugely popular so his cards don't get posted on Ebay. This is my 67th card of our former 3rd baseman and my 1st autograph of his. It's a minor league auto but it's still an auto. As a matter of fact, this is the 1st Crede I've added this year, I only added 1 in 2018 and none in 2017 if that tells you something.

Player Collection Additions - Joe Crede

*For those new to the blog, all purchases were made on Ebay (unless otherwise said) and all were under $.50/shipped.

*Since I made a huge purchase (147 cards) from JustCommons.com, I'm going to combine them with my Ebay purchases for the next couple of weeks.  I bought the cheapest cards of my player collections. I spent $2 on my tier 1 collections and $1 on the rest. I also picked up one relic card to make my purchase an even $25.

2007 Bowman

2007 Bowman Heritage

2007 Topps Chrome

2008 Topps Updates & Highlights

2004 Topps Total

2003 Upper Deck Fortyman

2003 Upper Deck MVP

2002 Fleer Tradition

I was really happy to add to this collection since I never come across his cards on Ebay. I know all these came from JustCommons.com. With these cards, the Joe Crede collection comes to 54 cards. I'm sure there are a crap load more out there, but I can't seem to come across them, at least at a decent price.
