Vintage adds

I told you that I went to my LCS yesterday and picked up more cards to sort so that's what I did today. He has a guy that buys packs, opens them up looking for I have no idea what, puts them back in the packs and then sells them to the LCS. I say I have no idea what because there isn't much missing from the packs, just a few cards (I assume). The stars are there as well as a whole lot of inserts so I'm guessing he's just looking for hits. Anyways, that's what I sorted today. I had said it was 2022 Update but I was wrong, it was all 2023 Topps series 1. Either way, it sucked for me because I have all the base of both those sets, I'll just be lucky to get some inserts.

I went through 4 Megas, 5 Blasters and 1 Hanger of 2023 Topps. When I sort, I look for myself and 2 other people (Dennis and Sluggo). After all was said and done, I only added 2 cards to my collections but 6 to Sluggo's and about the same (I forgot to count) to Dennis' stack. I added those cards to the random so we'll see if you get to see them today.

We start back up doing shows next weekend so maybe you'll see some better cards then.

It didn't take long to sort today, a little over an hour so I spent a few hours scanning and posting card pics to TCDB. I added 42 cards (42 fronts & 40 backs) so 82 scans in all. I have a long way to go but it was something, I may work on it some more tomorrow.

I added all of these to the Vintage collection from the sorting last weekend. As you can see, they are all Hall of Famers which is why they were in those particular boxes.

While I was on hiatus, I added quite a bit to my 80's sets. Here's where they stand now.

As you can see, I've gotten over 80% on all my 80's sets. Out of the 15 yet completed, 10 of those are over 90% complete and 3 sets are within 5 cards or less. This is on account of all the common stuff we bought and turned around. It was a lot of 80's so I grabbed up what I needed so a lot of it didn't cost me a dime.

This is where I stand on my 70's sets. I have picked up some of them as well but not nearly as much as I did the 80's. I only have 2 sets over 10% out of the 60's and my highest 50's is only at 4%.

Great players at great prices

I have a few days without some birthday posts so you might get to see some more pick-ups for a few days. Unless I get lazy, which is always a possibility. Had some good sleep last night too so I'm rearing to go today. I couldn't tell you the last time I slept past 10. I must have needed it.

Today's post is one of my more popular collections because it tends to speak to more collectors than player or team specific ones.

I'll start off with this. Josh, the guy who gave me the 8000 count box of 1982 Topps and all those publications that I purchased, threw this in with the sell just because it fit with my vintage collection. It actually means quite a bit because 1987 was when I went nuts and purchased a ton of Topps. I remember having a 8 or 9 copies of some of the cards that I PC'd. It was also the last year that I really purchased as a kid, which is why my Vintage Collection stops at 1987.

I've already finished the set so I won't open it and I think it's a pretty cool add to the collection even if it isn't worth much.

I picked up these 2 cards for the 1978 set from that $1 box at the Fort Wayne card show. As I go back and post all these $1 box vintage cards I got, I realize just how good of a purchase that was.

These 2 cards give me 186 which bumps me just over the 25% completed mark.

I added these 2 to the 1977 set. You seen the Yaz on his PC post, it came from the $1 box in Fort Wayne. The Lou Brock I grabbed at the Shipshewana show from Joe who's another guy we set up with and I know.

These 2 cards give me 275 cards for that set for 41% complete.

Another PC pick up that also goes in the Vintage. I picked up this 1976 Schmidt. Another $1 box Ft. Wayne pick up.

This card gives me 359 cards of the 1976 set which puts me at 54% completed. Off the top of my head this is 1 of only 2 1970's set that I'm over half complete.

As you may have figured out, if it's a vintage card with a pretty good player on it, or team card, it came from the $1 box in Ft. Wayne. All 3 of these go to other collections as well, the team card to the team card collection and the Schmidt and Carlton are both PC's as well.

These 3 cards give me 142 cards of the 1975 set which is 21% completed.

The top card is a Ft. Wayne purchase as it's also a PC card. Not the greatest condition but I'll take it for a buck. The bottom card was from my last Sportlots shipment.

These 2 cards give me 313 cards for a 47% completion on the 1974 set. Almost another I can put at half way done.

I specifically went looking for some 1973's with my last Sportlots purchase. I like the few action shots in there, you don't see the Fregosi pose often, watching him probably fouling out.

These 8 cards give me 511 of that set which is good for 77% completed. Obviously, this is the other 70's set over 50% completed.

Both of these 1972's came from Ft. Wayne. The top card is another PC card of Seaver while the bottom card I kept because of Hank Aaron. When I say kept, I could have purchased a ton of his card but was trying to budget so I narrowed down that $1 box purchase to PC cards that also went to the vintage collection.

These 2 cards give me only 84 cards of this set which is only 10% completed. Just for kicks I went and looked to see how many Hank Aaron's I have in my Vintage Collection. The answer is 5 but all our leaders or special cards, none of his base, yet.

As I said above, all my $1 box Ft. Wayne purchases were PC and team cards. This is where we start hitting the team cards. I got the Seaver from the same seller but it wasn't in the $1 box, I dropped $5 on it but I couldn't pass it up as I'm sure I got a discount since I bought so much from him so it was under $5.

These 7 cards from the 1971 set put me at 127 cards for a 17% completion.

I picked up the top 2 team cards in Ft. Wayne and the bottom card from Sportlots. If I wanted to pick up any 2 team cards from that set it would be those 2. The Sox card for obvious reasons and the Mets card because when I collected as a kid I was a Mets fan and I had that card. It was an expensive card of the Miracle Mets back then.

These 3 cards give me 99 cards of the 1970 set for only 14% complete.

These were the oldest of the team cards I picked up in Ft. Wayne. A couple of 1966 cards for $1, I'll take it.

These 2 cards only give me 42 cards of that set which is only 7% complete.

I picked up these 4 cards from the 1960 set from Sportlots for under $.50 each a piece. My 1960 set is probably my furthest along for that decade but that's mainly because I have quite a few of the Sox cards from that set.

These 4 give me 76 cards of that set for a 13% completion. Just for fun I went and looked and 29 of those are White Sox cards.

That's right, I even found some cheap 1958 cards on Sportlots. I'll pick these up all day for under $.50 if I can find them. Wonder how the Guardians like that logo.

These 2 cards give me 24 from that set for a 5% completion.

This was a fun post, I always forget how much I love picking up cheap vintage cards. I tend to focus more on my PC stuff and just pick up vintage when I run across them. Maybe I should add some to my search on Sportlots and specifically look for some again.

Sundays with Tom

I thought I'd squeeze in a post in between all the birthday posts this month. Plus I'm in a good mood since the Sox took 3 of 4 from Minnesota. It sucks that it ends up only being a game gained in the standings but it's a start. I just hope they continue after the all-star break.

Today's post is a Tier 1 post of my favorite All-Time pitcher.

All 12 of the above came from my last shipment of Sportlots. I'm going back, or I was, through Sportlots and picking up stuff from a dollar down. Most were still under $.50 but some were over. I really like 1982 O-Pee-Chee as I like that set to begin with. Since Night Owl calls it the hockey stick set, it only makes since that it be Canadian. I also ordered a Canadian leaders card with Seaver on it from 1976, but they sent me the Topps version so I'm still waiting on that one.

Remember the $1 box with Vintage in Fort Wayne, well the top 2 came from that. I paid a little more for the Carousel disc ($2) and the 1971 Topps ($5) but at the same dealer. I paid another dollar for the newer card of Tom Terrific.

These 17 cards put my Seaver collection at 543 cards.

Today, we'll just get to it since I have a lot of cards to show.

All those came from the 9 milk crate boxes of cards from Sluggo that I went through. Needless to say, they really boosted the 80's portion of my Vintage Collection.

The majority of the rest came from Sportlots for $.18, I'll note it if it didn't.

These 3 1986 Donruss and the ones in the stacks above give me 576 cards which puts me less than 100 cards to finish it which is good for 87% complete.

The 1986 Fleer in this post got me up to 226 cards or 34% completed.

My 1983 Donruss set is now at 73 cards.

9 more cards for the 1981 Fleer set which is now at 485 cards or 73% completed. Too bad all those Yankee cards weren't Braves cards, I could have said I predicted the World Series back in July.

These 13 cards put the 1981 Donruss set at 146 cards.

These 9 cards put the 1980 set at 321 cards. The Richard/Ryan card came from the National, I stumbled upon it for $.50.

These 6 cards from 1979 Topps put that set at 409 cards which is at 56%. I like the Lou Brock/Lou Brock card. I remember getting those when I was younger, I loved them because they usually had a guy that I didn't see often.

These 3 cards from the 1978 set put it at 182 cards which is good for 25% complete.

These 21 cards put me at 257 cards for the 1977 set. I think the majority of these came from the same seller. He has a bunch of 1977's that I'll probably add at a later time.

These 5 from 1976 put that set at 358 cards which is 54% complete. I'm always good with a 70's set over 50%.

These 8 cards from the 1975 set put it at only 104 cards. I picked up the Reggie Jackson at the LCS.

These 6 from the 1974 set put it at 310 cards. The bottom 2 came from a dime box at the card show in Kalamazoo. Really, a dime box. I didn't even go through the box, just happened to glance down and see these. They were the only vintage in there. 2 Vintage Reggie cards as well.

These 2 cards from 1973 put it at 503 cards. It's my largest 70's set but I've also been working on it for a lot longer since it's my birth year. It's now at 76% completed and most of what I need are the high numbers.

These 10 cards give me 80 for the 1972 set. Does anyone know why the Cubs team cards in these sets are floating heads and not actual team cards?

These 6 cards give me 117 for the 1971 set. A couple of Dodgers for you Dodger bloggers out there. I like the Luis Tiant as well.

Really like getting 21 cards from the 1970 set. It's only at 94 cards.

Starting off the 60's with 9 cards for the 1969 set. It's at 59 cards.

Plus, 6 cards for the 1968 set which puts it at 47 cards.

3 cards from 1967 puts it at 42 cards.

3 cards from 1966 which now sits at 37 cards,

3 cards for the 1965 set which puts it at 29 cards.

1 more additional card for the 1964 set. It's my 29th card of the set.

1 more card for the original wood set, 1962. It's only at 14 cards.

9 cards from 1961 though, you though I was slowing down didn't you. This set now has 29 cards.

4 cards from 1960 which puts them at 48 cards. I have more of that year because I have a bunch of Sox cards in that year.

Definitely like starting off the 50's with 5 cards from 1959. I have 17 cards from that set.

These 8 cards from the 1957 set all came from the National. I found a vintage dealer which is where I spent most of my money. I just picked out Sox cards and the Orioles team card for the team card collection. It boosted the set quite a bit considering I only had 3 to start with.

The 3 Sox cards came from the National, the Cleveland card came from Sportlots. These 4 give my 6 from the 1954 Bowman set.

This 1952 Bowman came from the National and it's my 1st card from the set.

And if any of you are still with me, lastly, these 2 1951 Bowman's also came from the National and are also the first 2 cards of that set.
