Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

A great year

Michigan hockey ended up like a lot of their sports this year. Close but no cigar. It's been a great year for Michigan athletics, a couple Big Ten titles and runs for championships in multiple sports in the major sports. We definitely shouldn't be the Butt of any jokes.

Did you figure out who the post is about?

This is the Xtra Points Red version. I already had the base and auto so I might as well add a color version. This came out of that dollar box in Shipshewana and is my 30th card of Jake Butt who retired last year after a career with injuries.

Butt on repeat

It's been awhile since I've added to this guys collection as well but I made up for it with the amount of cards I got to add.

We'll start off with his pro cards, even though 5 of them use the same photo which is forgivable for the Optic since they are parallels of the same card. I went back and looked, 12 of the 28 cards I have of Jake Butt are that same photo.

These 4 go along with the other 8 I have of him that are Michigan cards.

So I have 12 Michigan and 16 pro, of those 16 pro, 12 of them are that same photo above.

In case your bad at math, I added those 10 which bumped my Butt collection from 16 to 28.

A Butt Taco

I got a couple more former Wolverines in the mail today. Both from the same set, both from the same seller.

I feel sorry for Jake because I always use his last name in the title of my blog post and it isn't usually in a good way. I only paid $.25/shipped for this and it is my 14th card of Jake.

I also picked up this Taco card but it is only my 7th of his. I did only pay $.24/shipped for it so I was happy to pick up both these cards for under $.50.

Hump day cards

Today was a good day in the mailbox. While I only got one envelope from my purchases, I got another package from the famous Dennis at Too Many Verlanders which I'll post once I get everything logged and scanned. I just wanted to give a shout out to him because our "trades" are for the most part, one sided, yet, he still hooks me up. He will appreciate the card I got in that one envelope today though.

I picked up my lucky number 13th different card (14 total) of Jake Butt. It took me awhile to start accumulating his cards but I think with all his injuries, his prices dropped. This is my 8th autograph of Jake. Best of all, I only paid $1.62/shipped.

Catch-up Post

I have another catch up post. My oldest kids were here for the weekend for a wedding and I was busy Thursday through Monday and then a couple of days to recover because I'm not used to actually having to leave the house on my days off. Oh yeah, and my anniversary was Tuesday, probably should throw that in just in case the wife stops by (won't happen.)

I picked up this 2018 Ripken for a quarter/shipped. It is my first of his from 2018 and my 419th different card of his.

I picked this up for $3/shipped. I don't really follow Sale anymore so I'm not sure why I still collect him, but I haven't quite made that decision yet. He's finally getting his shot at the playoffs and he should do well since he had time off from an injury because he usually fades at the end of the year. This is my 141st card of Chris.

This is one of those hugely thick cards. I picked up my 8th card of Caris LeVert for $1.99/shipped. It is numbered to /25 as well so I think it was a pretty good pick up.

This is my 9th card of Jake, the 4th autograph. I think I mentioned last time I picked up his card that since he's injured again, I've been picking up more of his cards. This one came to me for $2.25/shipped.

College Football Saturday

As you may, or may not know, Dennis and I got together to at the Big House for the Michigan game last weekend. He gave me a nice stack of cards in person since I saved him all that postage. Since I didn't get any cards in the mail today, I'll split it into 2 posts so they aren't to picture heavy.

Since it's college football Saturday, we'll start with the Wolverine cards.

Always like receiving cards of the Fab Five, they were the team that put Michigan on my personal map and started my love for the Wolverines.

All 3 of these guys had pretty good careers in the pros but they all started at Michigan. You should have heard of all these names before considering they have 33 years experience in the pros and Henne is still playing, well, still on a team.

You might have heard of this guy too. I love getting cards of him in the Maize and Blue. This is only my 5th of his and all are years after his draft in 2000.

Next we'll get into the player collection cards of former Wolverines.

This is my 6th card of Martin and is my 1st pro card. This is also the 1st card that I've gotten of his in the last 2 years so I was definitely happy to see a card of him.

This is my 9th card of Trey, almost in double digits. It's also the 1st card of his that I've received this year. I thought I would be able to pick his cards more quickly but they seem to be out of my price range.

This is my 8th card of Jake Butt. I expected him to have a pretty good pro career but in his 3rd season now, he has missed 2 of those with injuries.

This is only my 3rd card of Big Mo. I'm going to love him proving wrong all those idiots who passed on him in the first 4 rounds. He was a beast at Michigan.

These 2 cards of Stauskas give me 11 of the Canadian. I really like him when he played for Michigan.

These 2 cards make 7 of Wormley. Oddly enough, I started his collection off with 4 straight autographs and then the last 3 have been base cards.

These 3 cards make 43 card of Shoelace. I've been picking up his card pretty well this year, only had 2 last year and these 3 make 8 for this year. None of my pick-ups were as nice as that last one though. That is a sweet looking card.

That's it for this post, I do have another Michigan Man but you'll see his cards in tomorrows baseball packed post. Be sure to check out "Too Many Verlanders" and the better "Too Many Manninghams"

2 teams, 3 cards

I got a few cards today. A couple I've been trying to win and a relic I've never seen.

We'll start with the relic.

I've seen the 2001 relics so that wasn't new, I just don't think I had come across a Royce Clayton one. Between being a 2001 and it being Clayton, I'm sure I would have won it sooner had I seen it. I picked it up for $1.51/shipped.

I picked up these 2 from the same seller. I only won them because I decided to up my high bids for Michigan cards from a quarter to $.50. I got tired of losing them for $.30 all the time. Although I picked these 2 for $.50/each/shipped. It's only my 2nd card of Chesson but my 4th of Butt.

10 cards, 3 hits and 3 free

I got a few envelopes with cards I purchased and some I didn't purchase in those same envelopes. I got 5 envelopes with 10 cards total. Even the 1st card of another player collection that I've been waiting to start.

We'll start off with some White Sox pick-ups.

I picked up this card for a whopping $.06/shipped. This card makes that team set down to 2 cards.

I also picked up this relic of Adam Dunn for the White Sox Collection. It came to me for $1.25/shipped. I think I only put a max bid of $1.50, if your a Sox fan then your well aware of the failure of the signing of Adam Dunn.

These 2 White Sox cards make 183 picked up for that collection so far this year.

2 cards for the Ripken Collection. The 2016 Topps Archives on the left I picked up for $.20/shipped and the card on the right, well to be honest, I have no idea where it came from. I put it with this card because I'm just going to assume the seller sent it as a bonus card. These 2 cards put the Ripken Collection at 330 cards and are the 18th and 19th cards of his picked up this year.

This was a 2 card lot of Barry Larkin and luckily I needed both of them. I won the lot for $.50/shipped which puts them at a quarter each. These 2 cards put that collection at 123 cards and they are the 12th and 13th cards picked up this year.

These 2 cards actually came free as bonus cards with the following 2. This seller read my purchase to almost perfection. I say almost because with the 2 cards above, he also sent a Rich Hill card. Now if the Rich Hill was in a Michigan uniform, it would have been perfect. The Jake Butt is my 3rd card of his and the Jourdan Lewis is the 1st. So what did I get (that's obviously Michigan related)?

These 2 cards came in a lot as well. Since I don't have many Mitch McGary cards, I went ahead and put $6 on the lot ($3 each which is my max bid on relic/autograph cards). What was a nice surprise is that I won the lot for $3 which equals out to $1.50/each/shipped. These 2 cards put the collection in double digits at 10 cards. Oddly enough, 5 of those 10 cards are relics and/or autographs. These were the first 2 cards that I've picked up for the McGary Collection this year.
