Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

So close to 200

Sluggo and I went to a trade night last night before the card show today in Shipshewana. This is getting to be a pretty huge show, I believe it was advertised as 180+ tables and it definitely has the foot traffic. We've been on a waiting list to get tables for awhile now and are still waiting. Anyways, I spent $42 last night on a half price box and I only picked up 8 cards. Then today, I spent $40 on a dollar box but I got 51 cards for that price. I also picked up a couple of autos for another $10. Plus, I got a player lot as a throw in that I ended up needing 3 cards so it was a pretty good day. I also bought a MacFarland figure of a hall of famer for $10.

We also hit the LCS on the way home. I didn't spend any money but I came home with another 10 or so cards. I spent too much at the card show so I just shuffled through a couple of dime boxes while my cousin was shopping. He spent enough money that the guy just through the dime cards in for free.

I started logging them today, but didn't get them done. I'll finish them tomorrow and scan them so I can start posting. Don't worry thought, I still have a few other things to show until then.

I have 9 posts left before I enter the ones I just purchased and out of those 9, only 1 of them I didn't pick cards up for this past weekend so I'll post that today so I don't have to post any players twice so close together.

Those top 3 all go to the vintage collection as well. The middle 3 are all the canadian versions. The 1987 Fleer is the glossy version.

I also picked up some 80's oddballs. The Donruss is one of those oversized cards, I believe it's 3x5 or close to it. The right side is a Fleer sticker and a Fun Food pin.

These are the 90's cards I picked up of the Lefty.

2000's & 2001's. I always loved those club 3,000 cards.

2002's & 2003's. It's always odd to see Carlton in a Cardinals jersey, that was definitely before my kid collecting days.

All 2004's. I like the look of that Leather & Lumber card on the bottom right.

2005-2009. I really like the bottom right again, I wish they would have found something to put on the right side of base cards. Maybe even a facsimile signature or something. I like the relic cards more because they use that open space for the relic.

2010-2014. I wish those top 2 corner cards were the vintage versions. Certainly not a fan of the Goodwin Champions sets where they show them in everyday clothes. They're just weird.

I like the black border on the top left and the bottom center with the red background with the powder blue uniforms. You see another 1967 copy in there as well.

2019-2021. Oh look, another 1967 copy.

These 55 cards give me 197 cards of the lefty. I guess I should have picked up 3 more of him this weekend to get me to 200. I should of made it 3 White Sox cards since I didn't get any up there.

Lefty pre-Friday

We are in the midst of getting snow dumped on us again but that's not the worst part. It was 50 degrees and rained most of the day yesterday so now all that rain is turning to ice under the 6 to 8 inches of snow we are getting. I'm wondering if I'll have work tomorrow. I'm ok with cancelling it as long as they don't say I have to work Saturday. I'd rather drive in the crap and not have to work Saturday.

Today you get a lefty Hall of Famer. That should narrow it down some.

II picked up all those in my latest shipment from Sportlots. Lots of stickers and a few cards. As you can see by the years, there are a lot more to come in the next shipment.

I picked up these 2 at the Mishawaka card show that we set up at. I paid a little bit for the 1977 card but only a quarter for the sticker. The 1977 came with 6 or 7 others that you'll see later which is why I paid more for it, they were all stars from the 1977 set. A couple PC guys if that tells you anything.

These 16 cards/stickers give me 142 of Mr. Carlton. I expect that to go up quite a bit with the next shipment.

Winna Winna

You got to see a rare occurrence the other day when I showed cards from a blogger other than Jeff or Dennis, today you'll get another. Nothing against bloggers not sending me cards, it's just I have very little to trade with so when people ask to trade, I tell them straight up, I just don't have anything to trade with. Some will send cards anyways knowing they won't get much, if anything, back. Brian, however, held a contest that I won on random and he threw in some extra's for me.

He sent over these 3 Sox cards along with a couple of PC players that have already been shown. Those 2 Chris Sale's give me 149 cards of him. I mentioned before when I showed another Sega card he sent me that I had never had any of those before he sent them. I only have 9 cards of Melky but he wasn't with us for very long. I just looked, he was with us 2 years, it didn't seem that long.

So what card did I win in the Save Second Base contest?

That, my friends, is a pretty cool card. It doesn't technically go into my collections but I don't care, it does now. Did you notice the serial #?

For those of you asking, I do have a few cards that I keep that aren't part of any collections but I like them. This is by far the better of any of those cards, but I do have some. This is my 6th card of Lou, but the others all go into collections. 4 from the Vintage collection, 1 card that he shares with Carl Yastrzemski and this card.

Thanks for that cool card Brian, and thanks for all the bonus cards that went to my collections. Check out Collecting Cutch.

Saturday with Steve

The Sox have made some moves, some good, some I'll wait to see how well it worked out. I liked the Lynn trade, he's supposed to be pretty good and will make another solid starter behind Giolito and Keuchel and if Cease works out like he's supposed to, that's a pretty good rotation. I hated seeing McCann go because I liked him but I understand the move. I wish him well and I have a soft spot for the Mets so I'm happy he went there.

Today's post is a former lefty who played for the Sox but the majority of his hall of fame career was with the Phillies but I got a card with another team of his that I really enjoyed receiving.

This comes from 2019 Archives, you gotta love the powder blues.

This is from the 1983 set so I'm surprised I didn't have it but apparently I didn't. Both former Sox on that card. This card also goes with the Vintage collection as does the next one.

It's far from his rookie but a vintage Steve Carlton all of the same. I really liked getting this card. I don't remember seeing him in a Cardinals uniform until Topps started reprinting their older cards awhile ago. I do have his 1973 which was my oldest single player card. I do have another 1970 but it's a leaders card with Juan Marichal and Bob Gibson.

All 3 of these cards came from Jeff at 2x3 Heroes. Those 3 cards give me 121 of the Hall of Famer lefty.
