More 80's "Vintage"

Dodgers took game 1. If I had to pick a team I'd want to win, it would probably be the Rays. Just because they are in the AL East and it would rub the Red Sox and Yankees wrong. But either way, I don't mind who wins. I work with a Dodger's fan so if they won, I'd be okay with that. 

Here we go with another 80's vintage post. Good thing Jeff sent a lot.

A couple of pretty good pitcher's in that top row. I didn't mind the 1982 Donruss set but some reason, I don't like this one with the gloves. It's pretty much the same but the glove just doesn't sit right with me. Not sure why. Jeff sent me these 10 cards to give me 56 cards for the set.

I think I might have bought this full set at a card show back in the day. I vaguely remember doing so but I have no idea if it's true or not. I was never into set collecting so I'm sure I got a good deal and I probably broke it up. As you can see above, Jeff dropped a pretty good number on my current attempt at it. These 37 cards put that set at 113 cards.

Jeff hit all 3 major sets with these 47 from the Topps set. Seeing all these Topps cards from the 80's is bringing back so many memories. I don't think I liked this set when it first came out but it grew on me. I was a fan of the 1982 set and this was vastly different. I wasn't so sure about the headshots but like I said, it grew on me. Enough so that when they did it again in 1984, I liked it. I also remember that Willie McGee rookie being a hot commodity. These boosted the set to 185 cards.

Date with a scalpel

This is a first, I'm actually ahead of schedule for the month. At least with posting because for next month's cards, I just had my cards shipped today from Sportlots so I'm going to have to rush to get them ready to post when they do arrive. Luckily for me, I'm having surgery on Monday and with that, comes 2 weeks off of work so I'm going to have plenty of time to catch up. As long as I pass my Covid test tomorrow, it's on. I hope it's multiple choice.

The only reason I mention the surgery is I've had some peeps ask what's getting done. I'm getting a nose job. Sorta. I can barely breathe from my nose, has been that way since I was a kid but has gotten really bad the last few years so I went and had it looked at. Apparently my septum is S shaped, which explains a lot. So I'm going in and they are straightening it out. It's been a long time coming but to be honest, I'm pretty excited about having 2 weeks off. After having all the time off during quarantine, I already know I'll enjoy it, minus the pain but I'm optimistic that it'll be minimum.

Anyways, to today's Vintage post.

Again, this is just a sampling because I got 155 cards for this set. That was a huge chunk for an average of $.06/card. And yes, that is a Dennis Eckersley rookie card. There's former Sox and Wolverines, there's broadcasters and yes, you young pups, Dusty Baker used to play the game too, back before his kids were getting run over in World Series games.

Like I said, a huge chunk of this set. These 155 cards almost doubled what I had and puts that set now at 348 cards which is good for over half at just under 53% completed.

That Facebook purchase was a huge pick-up for me and it started with Dennis giving me the heads up so another huge Thank You to him. I got one more post for this month and a few days to go so I promise to get it out this weekend because I have a hot date with a scalpel on Monday.

Lotsa Vintage

We continue on with Vintage month here on MSO. Today we drop back a few more years.

This is a small sample of the 1974 Topps that I got in the Facebook purchase. I needed a total of 111 of the '74's I got. That was a nice chunk to the set which now stands at 46% complete with 304 cards.

8 cards and a story

I'm starting this week off right when I got 2 envelopes in the mail. One comes with a story, the other came with 8 cards. First off, all 8 cards that came in the envelope were towards the Vintage Collection.

This 1987 Topps of Doug Drabek came to me for $.11/shipped. This is my 693rd card of that set which puts it at 87.5% completed.

This 1987 Donruss of Ron Kittle came to be for $.12/shipped. This is my 228th card of that set which puts that at 34.55% completed.

This 1986 Donruss of Dusty Baker came to me for $.25/shipped. This is my 476th card of that set which put it at 72.12% completed.

These 1985 Topps of Danny Heep and Mike Norris came to me for $.12/each shipped. These 2 cards are my 703rd and 704th cards of that set which puts that at 88/89% completed.

These 2 1984 Topps of Tom Underwood and Ron Guidry came to me for a quarter/shipped and $.24/shipped. These 2 cards are my 261st and 262nd cards of that set which puts it at 33.08% completed.

This 1981 Donruss card of Mike Edwards came to me for $.12/shipped. This card is my 44th card of that set which puts it at 7.27% completed.

As you can tell, that seller had listed a bunch of 80's cards, this was just a small sampling, I got outbidded on most of them.

Now for the story. I won the following card and after not seeing it for a month, I sent a message to the seller which basically said I'd prefer the card but if not, a refund will do. He replied back saying he had the card and would ship it. I told him not to worry about feedback, as long as I get the card or a refund that I will leave positive feedback. Stuff happens. Been there, done that. Well, today I got the card in the mail, what was all the fuss about?

This 1992 O-Pee-Chee Premier for the Barry Larkin Collection came to me for a quarter/shipped. This is my 111th card of Barry Larkin. But wait, there's more. He felt bad for the delay and sent me some bonus cards. He sent me a 1992 Donruss of Larkin but I already had it and also a 1993 Upper Deck Rickey Henderson, which doesn't really go into my collections but he also sent this.

Nothing real exciting for most of you but it was a bonus Larkin for me as I didn't have it as well. This 1991 Leaf was my 112th card of the Barry Larkin Collection.

You gotta love these cereal cards.  I bought a bunch for the White Sox collection as well that you’ll see soon.

  

All 3 of these are from the 1981 Topps Scratch-offs.  All 3 are different and all 3 cost me $.99 each.  They aren’t cards, but they aren’t things you see everyday.  I don’t like that they are oversized because I can’t display my oversized stuff yet.
