Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

2 days of Mail

I did get some more cards in the mail yesterday but I had some car trouble after work and then had a softball game so by the time I got home and showered, I just didn't feel like getting online to post so we'll do 2 days of cards today.

1981 Donruss ($.38/shipped)
1981 Donruss ($.54/shipped)
1981 Fleer ($.54/shipped)
3 cards, 2 Player Collections, a Fisk and 2 Schmidt's. All 1981. I believe I've bid on the Donruss Schmidt before and could never win it so it was nice to finally get it.

1981 Topps ($.12/shipped)
1981 Topps ($.24/shipped)
1983 Fleer ($.16/shipped)
1984 Topps ($.26/shipped)
4 more vintage as you can tell. I only put a quarter plus a few pennies (like I usually do) on the 1980's vintage which if you saw the last post, you know I still manage a bunch.

1987 Topps All-Star Set
I did get one for the White Sox collection as well, got it for $.54/shipped. I remember trying to get all these cards as a kid. I believe they were wrapper mail ins or something. I think I got most of mine from card shows and trading with other kids.

The next 3 cards I received today from 2 sellers.

1985 Fleer
1985 Fleer
Both of these 1985 Fleer came from the same seller. The Ozzie Smith goes to the Vintage Collection, I picked it up for $.26/shipped and the Ripken's card goes to the Ripken Collection, I grabbed it for only $.28/shipped.

2014 Topps Stadium Club Autograph
I picked up this auto of the former White Sox pitcher, I say former because he was traded in early June for James Shields, who hasn't exactly panned out, yet. I grabbed this auto for $2.99/shipped.

New Additions - White Sox collection, 1970's

This round of cards have all been randomized, let's get to today's cards.

*For those new to the blog, all purchases were made on Ebay (unless otherwise noted) and all were under $.50/shipped.

I picked up these 5 cards for the 1979 White Sox team set at Dougs, I mentioned before he mainly had vintage but it was a lot of 1975's and 1979's and I've already finished the 1975 team set. These 5 cards bring the 1979 team set to still needing 12 cards.

Kyle must have sensed me picking up some 1979's because he sent me 4 more and that takes the team set down to 8. I guess I should have titled the post 1979's instead of 1970's.

Check out My Personal Collections (now with over 2600 cards) and My Baseball Card Obsession (now with over 3300 cards and over 1000 different card labels and 1625 players).

Complete Team Sets–1976 Topps

Another vintage completion.

completed-76topps01

I like the red jerseys but I’m not in love with them.  I prefer to see the Chicago White Sox in black and white.

completed-76topps02

Beltin’ Bill Melton and Wilbur Wood.  Both vintage players I like.  Can’t say much about the look of this set.   Kind of hideous if you ask me.  I guess I can’t complain about the red since it was one of their colors that year, but the green?  And I don’t like the little logo guy in the bottom corner either.

completed-76topps03

I had to pick up a couple of cards from this set to complete it.  I do like the team card, I have always liked them.  They remind me of the team photos they’d send you when you sent the teams letters.  I used to send a letter to each team to get their fan packs.

Completed Team Sets–1975 Topps

Another vintage team set that I completed with the previous COMC purchase was this awesome set.

completed-75topps01

I had thought I finished this with the end of the year purchase in December but I accidently bought a mini instead of the regular sized card.

completed-75topps02

I really do hate all the oddball colors but yet I love the set for them.  I can’t understand it.  I kind of feel the same way about the 1976 Topps set as well.

completed-75topps03

I guess the advantage of being a White Sox fan is that there is rarely a high dollar card that you have to pick up.

completed-75topps04

Technically the leader and rookie cards aren’t part of the team set, but I’m throwing them in anyways.

Believe it or not, I still have a couple of Vintage Complete Sets to post.  So stay tuned because I have a few other packages from fellow bloggers to throw up as well.

Completed Team Set–1974 Topps

completed-74topps01

I completed this set before the end of the year but I’ve been a slacker for awhile.  I get such a satisfaction of finishing a vintage team set.  I finished 4 of them from the 70’s just before the end of the year with my black Friday purchases from COMC.

completed-74topps02

I can’t believe they followed up the 1973 Topps photography with these.  Only 3 action shots in the first 16 cards.

completed-74topps03

A couple more action shots.  These were odd years for the White Sox just because their uniforms really have nothing to do with their normal color scheme.  But I do enjoy them because they are a little different from the norm.

completed-74topps04

I went ahead and threw the Ron Santo traded and a rookie pitchers card with Ken Frailing from the Sox on it even though they may not be technically part of the team set.

Trade with Justin

Before I get to this trade, just a couple of quick things.  I hope I’m not overloading your blogrolls with all the posts.  I’m trying to post a 1981 post and a 1973 post during the day while I’m at work and then a normal post in the evening.  I was going to do one a day but I got to thinking, that’s over 1300 posts between those 2 sets, plus my other posts.  That’s almost over 4 years of posts a day.  So I’m posting 1 a day of each set.  Although I’ll be out of 1973 in a few weeks then it will slow down.  The 1981 posts will be going for a long time because of great bloggers like Eric at “Manupatches and Mustaches” and Kyle at “JABO’s”.  Both sent me huge stacks of 1981 cards along with other trade cards.  Those cards you’ll see in upcoming trade posts.  But you’ll have to wait to see all the 1981 cards, 1 at a time.  Just like they will both have to wait until I find some great cards to send back.  Thanks to both of you.

Justin of “Justin’s World” and I traded a few cards back and forth and before I get to what he sent me, let me just say, his package is the reason I love trading in this community that we have.  Along with the cards he sent me, he added 5 packs of Cars 2 stickers for my son.  Which came at a great time because they quit selling them here.  I loved explaining to him that someone I’ve never met, sent those to him.  Truly awesome package Justin.  Oh yeah, here’s the cards.

I’m told that anything over 25 years old is considered vintage.  That makes this whole package vintage.  But, in my mind, anything before the 80’s is vintage.  But I still like them all.  Love the vintage because, well, it’s vintage.  And love all the 80’s because of the flashbacks of childhood.

Thanks again, Justin.  Check him out here at “Justin’s World

Trade with Potch

gavin-floyd-thumb-580x326-305535

Before I get to the trade post (because I know how much all of you like them) I wanted to give a shout out to Gavin Floyd of the White Sox.  If you haven’t heard, check out the article here.  You don’t see too many good stories about today’s athletes.  And yes, I would have given him a shout out even if he played for another team.  If you don’t read the trade post below, be sure to check out the Pujols cartoon at the bottom.

Potch of “Potch Wheeler and the Cardboard Heroes” saw a couple of cards he wanted, I believe out of some update packs and I sent them his way, in exchange, he sent me these.  Potch must have gone through my want lists because he sent me a bunch of Sox I didn’t have.  I’ll just post the new and the old and spare you all the years in between.  Here’s the new.

trade-potch02

Big thanks for the Allen & Ginter’s because I don’t buy any packs of these.  Not exactly my favorite set.  I do like the design, I just don’t like all the other non-baseball cards that come with it so I don’t buy the packs.  I really like the Hometown Heroes inserts as well.  And the Aparicio up there as well.  I’ve been getting a lot of his cards and he was one of my favorite vintage Sox players.

trade-potch01

He also sent me these 1977 Topps and an 1984.  I always like the vintage.  I’m waiting to see which vintage team set I finish first.  Between all you bloggers, I’ve been slowly filling them up.  I think 1975 is the closest but I still need quite a few of those too.

Thanks for the trade Potch, as always, it’s great trading with you.  And it’s nice to see your original blog name back as well.

I also ran across this cartoon today and had to post it, it is too funny.  Well, maybe not to you Cub fans.
