Minor Michaels

 We set up at the Shipshewana show today. We had a pretty good day but it was slower than usual. Everyone I talked to said the late fall one usually is. Plus it ended up chilly, rainy and very windy which I'm sure kept a few people away. Like I said, we did pretty well. We started setting up at 7 am and by the time the show opened at 8:30 we had already sold over $800 just to other dealers and a few early birds. I did get a few cards from Sluggo and I purchased one for $5 so I did good on my spending. To be honest, we were busy enough I couldn't stray to far from the table. I only spent the $5 at a fellow Sox fan who we set up with at other shows and was across the aisle from us again. I'll do the scanning and logging of those cards tomorrow before I get on Sportlots tomorrow.

Yesterday's post was a previous Sox pitcher, today's is a current one.

All of the above came from my last shipment from Sportlots. The top scan are all minors (and one high school) cards.

The bottom scan is Bowman filled. As in, they are all Bowman's. Although none are just a Bowman Base. You got Bowman Bests, Holiday, Platinum and a mini.

I mentioned last week that I went to the LCS with Sluggo. We picked up some stuff for the shop and I spent about $10 on myself. Sluggo didn't know what 582 Montgomery cards so I was explaining it to him and the show owner said he just bought a bunch of cards that had some almost complete sets of the 582's. He handed me a box and told me to pull out what I wanted and he'd work out a deal. I ended up grabbing 25 cards, most of the White Sox team set and a couple other PC's so you'll see a bunch of these in the next few weeks. The deal he gave me, all 25 for $1. Yes please.

These 11 cards give me 92 of Kopech. Almost the century mark for him. The 11 cards moves me into 2nd place on TCDB but I'm still 30+ cards from 1st so it'll be awhile if I ever get there.

Kid Kopech

Apparently my these this week so far is guys who played on Sunday.

This guy went 4 innings Sunday afternoon. He didn't look great but got through it which is a great sign. I like when a pitcher can adjust when they don't have their good stuff. He's still young and learning so it was good to see.

This was also in Sluggo's boxes. It's a short print variation of his rookie card. He's warming up in the bullpen here but he's a starter this year so now he only does that before the game.

This card gives me 76 of Kopech.

Sox Sunday

Another weekend has flown by with no football. I'm not a huge fan of watching NFL (or NBA) so I'll be waiting a week or so before I can watch some again. I have been catching up with the Baseball Seasons on MLB Network. Those have been pretty great! I've gone through most of the 60's, we'll see if they keep playing them up into the 70's next week.

Speaking of baseball, how about a baseball post for today.

I picked up the top 2 cards at the Plymouth card show a couple of weekends ago and the bottom card came from Sluggo. The top 2 are green parallels. Those 3 cards put my TA collection at 142 cards.

Same thing as above, first card from the Plymouth card show, second card from Sluggo. The left one again, is a green parallel. Both of the above A&G's came from packs that Sluggo and I ripped one weekend because we got bored. These 2 give me 155 cards of Gio.

The top Kopech, the Orange Donut, came from the LCS while the bottom card came from the Plymouth card show. I only paid a buck at the LCS and I don't normally drop too much on a relic card but a triple relic for $4, I couldn't pass up. These 2 cards put the Kopech Collection at 75 cards.

 All the cards in the top scan came from Plymouth, the bottom, again, from packs at Sluggos. These 6 put that collection at 48 cards. That's a lot further than I though it would be at the beginning of the year, considering his prices.

You'll notice that all the cards from Plymouth on this post were parallels or inserts. They all came from the guy selling right next to us but the main reason I grabbed them was because I didn't feel like checking my lists so I went with parallels to keep from getting dupes. It worked for the most part, I did end up with a dupe color parallel of Eloy.

Sleepy Saturday

We did our 2nd day of the show today, it's also the last. I'll talk about it tomorrow. I've been fighting sleep all evening while watching the Michigan/Penn State game and now the Michigan/Prairie View A&M (yeah, I never heard of them either) game.

Today's post, we go back to some baseball and a possible starter for the Sox next year.

I picked up this card from Sluggo going through a bunch of Gallery cards. I don't think he relalized it was a Private Issue card when he skimmed them otherwise it wouldn't have been in there.

I picked up this Holo Orange of Michael at the LCS a month or so ago. I'm pretty sure it was in the dime box but I'm not positive.

These 2 give my Kopech collection to 73 cards.

A free day

I got a day without a birthday to put up a regular post. The last 2 days were birthdays and the next 2 days are birthdays so it's a busy week for the birthday posts. 

I added another post to Sluggo's Sports Cards of some new cards we picked up. A couple graded rookies and lots of autos so check it out.

I ordered my box from Sportlots to be shipped, it says it's supposed to be here Saturday so I'll have a package to open this weekend.

Our current bullpen, future starting pitcher is up for today. I got this card from Sluggo, he gave me a bunch of high number Heritage of Sox players and this one was in there.

The rest are from my last couple of Sportlots boxes. These are all from 2018, all minor league cards except the Holiday Bowman.

These 2 are from 2019. Another Bowman and a non-licensed Donruss, both shiny.

These 3 are from 2020, all Topps. I picked up a bunch of Sox Stadium Club and those Gold star Walmart's in my last purchase as well.

I'd really like to see Kopech in the starting rotation but on the other hand, we'd have to go to a 6 man because who are you going to take out? Our rotation is full of studs.

These 11 cards give me 71 of Michael Kopech. His collection is moving right along.

Sox Starter(s)

I went over to my aunt's house to help him start to organize his boxes and boxes and boxes of cards. Spent a couple of hours sorting. I see a lot of new White Sox cards coming in my future from him. We got through 4 5000 count boxes before I headed home. Only 7 more to go and that's just the baseball. 

Today's players are a couple of White Sox pitchers, a starter and a reliever (for now). Both are young studs on the staff.

I got this from Fred at work. I probably should have waited until this weekend to post because he just handed me another 20 or 30 cards that I need to add to my collections. I don't know about all of them but I know I saw some A&G Chrome and I know I don't have those. He sent this Giolito along with a bunch of these Heritage that I didn't have.

I also grabbed a bunch of Lucas from Sportlots. Everything up there are parallels or inserts other than the Gallery and the Stadium Club. The Chrome in the middle is a refractor.

The nice thing about how I'm purchasing on Sportlots, I'm picking up a lot of cards that I probably wouldn't have ran into. Like all these cards of Lucas with the Nationals.

These 15 cards put me over the century mark for Lucas cards at 104.

Our even younger stud is Kopech. He's been delegated to long relief in the bullpen until we need him in the rotation which is pretty set at the moment. He's had Tommy John surgery and missed 2019 and opted out of 2020 which is the main reason he has been put in the bullpen to ease him back in but he has been pretty dominant and I think if our rotation wasn't as good as it was, he'd probably already be back in it.

Like Giolito, I've been picking up Kopech cards with the Red Sox that I otherwise, would have never come across.

These 12 cards give me 60 of Kopech.

All of those Sportlots pick-ups were under $.50 with about half of them at $.18.

Young Studs

This will be a post with some of the young studs on the White Sox but oddly enough, the stud of our team right now isn't that young. He's the 28 year old rookie who has been in the minors and other leagues for the last 10 years. Yermin Mercedes has been killing it, starting his career with 8 straight hits and now sits 12 of 18. I don't expect this to sustain but man is it fun to watch right now. He only has 20 cards on TCDB, 12 are Topps Now and 5 of the remaining 8 are different variations of a 2021 Topps Autograph. I'm guessing he'll have a lot more coming out in upcoming sets.

The 2 cards above came from Sportlots. Both were found while looking at finishing 2017 team sets. The BL Gold was just a bonus I ran across looking to finish the Big League set. The Bunt set is finished.

This 2021 came from the box breakers club from Chris at Nachos Grande. I know we've all complained about the small lettering on the front but now that I've seen them in hand, it's ridiculous that I have to put on my readers (glasses) to read the front instead of the hard to read back of the card.

Timmy is currently out, not on the IL but is taking a few games off to recover from a hamstring injury. These 3 cards give me 82 of him.

Next up is Moncada. As I said on Tim Anderson, I completed the Bunt set and the blue parallel was another one I ran across finishing that set. These 2 came from Sportlots.

These 4 cards came from the LCS that my cousin and I visited. He had a White Sox box, all cards were a quarter. I grabbed these along with other players that you'll see later. 

I picked up these 2 at the card show. I paid a couple of bucks (don't remember exactly) for the Living Set card on the left but only $.50 for the Sepia Refractor on the right. I picked up a number of those Sepia's for $.50.

These 8 cards give me 127 cards of Yoyo.

I picked up this card of Kopech on Sportlots so it was under $.50.

Fred brought me this '75 lookalike from 2019 Archives of the fireballer. He has looked good in spring training and so far out of the bullpen this season. Any stumble from any of our starters and I think Kopech will be taking over.

These 2 cards give me 48 cards of him.

I only managed to grab one card of Cease and it also came from that quarter box of White Sox at the LCS. This card gives me 21 cards of our current 4th starter.

The last player of today's post is a popular one right now in the card community and I have trouble getting any on the cheap. I did grab the 1952 copy of 2021 Topps on Sportlots for $.18. I wonder if the seller didn't realize what he was selling because you don't find his cards that cheap. I also picked up a 2021 Topps that I already had just because it was only $.18.

Both of these 2021 Topps cards of Robert came from Chris' box break. I like both the photographs on these cards (definitely not the design though.)

I also picked up these 4 cards of Luis at the card show. I might have overpayed but that's what card shows are for since I buy everything cheap every other day. The top left and bottom right were both $5 and the other 2 were $2.

These 7 cards move my Luis Robert collection to 19 cards. They were a big boost though because as I said before, his can be hard to come by.

Sox Staff

Another quicky before I head to bed. My cousin is leaving tomorrow so things will get back to normal. I couldn't tell you the last time I left the house 3 days in a row.

Today you get a couple of our young pitchers. One you got to see start to shine last year, the other you'll get to see whenever we start playing again.

I picked up these 3 2020 cards of Lucas Giolito from Sportlots. The Opening Day I grabbed for $.18, the Opening Day blue for $1 and the 2020 Donruss you think you've seen here before but this is the Holo Blue variation, I only paid $.30 for it.

My cousin also sent me this Sepia Refractor of Lucas as well. Those 4 additions put his cards at 36 cards. I'm hoping last year wasn't a fluke and he's the real deal.

 

My cousin also boosted my Michael Kopech collection with these 6 cards as well. He was out last year with Tommy John surgery so he should be good and rested for his return since he was coming back early this year. These 6 give me 43 of him.
