Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Ted from Joe

While at the Shipshewana show, I started looking at a seller's cards that we set up with at the Mishawaka and Plymouth show. He had a $5 box but it was also 6 for $20 so basically buy 4, get 2 free. I started flipping through them and came across a bunch of these and I couldn't resist buying 3 of them, even though they don't really go into my collections.

These come from a 1959 Fleer set dedicated to Ted Williams. He had a bunch of them, said he had the set when he was a kid. I don't know if these are those but I didn't care. I guess these go in the other collection which are cards that don't fit in to any of them. They're just cool.

I did buy 3 other cards to get the discount but those actually went to my collections so you'll see them at a later date.

Special Guest Appearance

We'll follow up yesterdays Tier 3 collecton with another. These cards are a lot like the ones you saw yesterday.

We'll start off with some early stickers of Carl and even a special guest appearance by Ted Williams.

Some oddballs with lots of Fleer. Apparently I need some of the 80's Fleer but not the Topps or Donruss.

I've never seen those top 3, not just the cards but the set. I've definitely seen the bottom 2 though.

You know that I've seen these though as this is the 2nd or 3rd one I've shown. I picked them all up from the same seller.

All of the above came in my shipment from Sportlots.

I also picked up this more modern card at the last show in Mishawaka about a month ago. Which we're 3 weeks away from setting up at that show again.

These 20 cards of Yaz push that collection to the century mark and puts it right at 100 cards.

Trade Bait

As mentioned in a previous post, I picked up some trade bait at my LCS.  If this post goes well, maybe I’ll spring one of these posts every so often to get rid of cards I have already.  For the most part, I grabbed oddball stuff that maybe other collector’s wouldn’t have.   So here goes.

tradebait01

1981 Donruss Mike Schmidt and a 1982 Granny Goose Foods Rickey Henderson.

tradebait02

The 1st card says 1996 Upper Deck on it, but I had never seen it before so I grabbed it anyways.  The 2nd Jackie Robinson card says 1994 Upper Deck on the back but it says “Baseball – the American Epic” on the back so I assume this set corresponds with the movie.  And a 1993 Donruss Mike Piazza rookie.  Let’s face it, there’s a crap load of Dodger Bloggers out there, they probably all have it already but it was only $.25.  Speaking of Dodgers.

tradebait03

It’s poorly cut and has a stain on the left, but it’s yours if you want it.  There’s no year on the back due to the poor cut but the last stat year has 1976 so I’m guessing this is a 1977.  I want to say Hostess, but not positive without the info on the back.

tradebait04

1998 Fleer Double Trouble (Hideo Nomo & Mike Piazza) and a 2008 Upper Deck X Xponential Russell Martin.

tradebait05

1965 Topps Cincinnati Reds rookie stars and a 1974 Topps All-stars with Rod Carew and Joe Morgan.  It’s a little worn around the edges.  I grabbed this Ted Kluszewski because I hadn’t seen these cards either.  It says 2003 Topps Flashbacks.

tradebait06

Manny Ramirez gold 2003 Topps.  1978 Topps Fergie Jenkins and a Ted Williams from 1989.  It has JJ Nissen Super Stars at the top, never seen these either but there it is.

tradebait07

Both George Brett.  1987 M&M’s Star Lineup and a 1991 Post Cereal Collector Series.

tradebait08

And the final 2 are both Cal Ripken Jr.  A 1992 Post Cereal Collector Series and a 1990 Topps Kmart Superstars.

All are for trade, but a couple people have first dibs because I’m already working on trades.  So if Stealing Home of “All Trade Bait” wants any of the Dodgers, let me know.  And if Dennis at “Too Many Grandersons” wants the Ripkens then let me know as well.  Let me know if you see anything you want.  If we make a trade, I’ll try to hit your want lists as well but be forewarned, I don’t have much left in my trade box so you may only get the cards you ask for.  I tell you this because I know a lot of you send extra cards, and that’s great, I try to do so as well.  I just don’t want you to be disappointed if there aren’t any extra goodies.  Hit me up with a comment or email if you want any of these.

Photo Cleansing #6

We’ll start this edition with a little humor from Derek Jeter.

sports05

I was big fan of these 2 back when they were coming up.  They used to be my big player collections until they started screwing it all up.  I don’t understand these athletes who throw away everything they have for something stupid, like drugs, or DUI’s or even dog fighting.  Although Mike Vick seems to have gotten his back, since Nike just re-signed him.  Although, they probably figure they’ll never get caught, and even if they do, they get minor penalties because they are famous.

sports03

Just a cool photo, especially with the ball still in it.

sports04

You like vintage photos?  Me too (in case you didn’t know).  Robin Yount played back when I used to watch baseball growing up.  Sorry, I’m not quite that old to have been around for the really good vintage.  But I have some pictures for you anyways, because that’s the kind of guy I am.

sports06

This is just a really cool shot.  The angle, the haze.  And Ted Williams on deck.

sports07

And you can’t go wrong with a Jackie Robinson stolen base attempt.

And to switch sports on you.  I’m already excited about this coming season for Michigan football.  Brady Hoke and company have done a tremendous job in the offseason with recruiting and such and I can’t wait to see what he can do on the field.

sports08

I’m not a big fan of all the Heisman hype, especially before a game is played.  Any Michigan fan knows what happened when Denard started facing good defense’s so the last thing I want is Heisman talk 2 months before the season even starts.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Denard as our QB and from what I hear out of camp, his focus won’t be running, which I like.  What I hated last season was all the overthrows on open receivers.  If he becomes deadly with his arm, imagine how much his legs could kill you.  I already know I’ve got tickets for the Nebraska game in November and I’m still waiting to hear about the 1st game of the season.  I went to the opener last year, against UCONN and the energy in the stadium was amazing.  It was also the dedication game for the new stadium.  And the whole Brock Mealer thing before the game was very emotional.  I’m pumped for this year, hell, it can’t get much worse.

And it wouldn’t be a photo cleansing with a Jordan pic.

sports02

Wait a minute, that’s not Jordan.  He wore #23 and #45 during his career.  Not #12.  Wrong, his jersey was stolen before a game and he had to borrow somebody else’s jersey for the game.  He ended up with 49 points so it’s not the jersey.  But the Bulls still lost in OT.
