Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Colorful but not pretty

Michigan looked really good and the Sox are finally playing up to expectations. I'd say it was a good weekend. If you read yesterdays post than you know it was one of the two camping trips I make throughout the year. Well that was last weekend, the weekend before that, we set up at the Plymouth card show. One of the dealers that we've gotten to know from setting up at shows is the Man Cave card shop. They are out of Stanton, Michigan but we see them all the time around here at shows plus we even drove up to their shop once so we all know each other. Well, they do videos of all their pick-ups and activities and they asked us about being in one, neither of us really wanted to be in it but we did it for the plug.

They finally got around to posting the video, they divided their pick-up videos into 3 different posts for each sports which was nice because they posted the show video in one, nice and short, 8 minute video which is where we were featured. Here it is.

If you don't have 8 minutes or know how to fast forward while watching, we are briefly at the 3:40 mark and the interview with the show host is at 4:50 mark. Nothing special or flashy but it was what it is.

Today's post isn't anything I picked up at that show since I didn't pick anything up but it's one of the more favorite posts that we do over here. I actually picked these up from Sluggo who bought out a dealer set up next to us at the Mishawaka show.

I grabbed these 5 cards from the 1972 set. Not my favorite set, not a fan of the 70's colors sets but they are still vintage and I don't hate them. These 5 give me 89 cards from 1972.

Woo Hoo! A Bernie Williams rookie. Oh, that's not the right one. I also got this one card from the 1971 set. Black border is definitely better than the wacky colors. This card puts that set at 128 cards.

Last but not least, I picked up these 2 from the 1968 set. As plain as this set is, it's still better than the "colorful" ones in the 1970's. These 2 put that set at 49 cards.

Not my usual huge post of vintage but vintage all the same.

Team lots

It's Sunday which means I have to go back to work tomorrow. Blah! We're starting off with 10 hour days too but I don't expect that to last long but you never know with our management.

Yesterday, you got vintage, you do today as well. Although technically it is team collection post but they are all apart of the Vintage collection as well.

I picked these up for $.20/each. As you can tell they are a little worse for wear but that's alright. They were in a lot of 5 cards from 1977 for $1 at the card show.

All 3 of these were $.33/each as well and they are in better shape and 7 years older. They aren't perfect by any means but rounded corners and bad cutting isn't as bad as all the creases in the top 2. This was another lot for $1.

Lastly, these 2 were also a lot for $1 which I though was an outstanding price as they aren't in bad shape at all for 61 year old cards.

You can see why I grabbed a bunch of these small lots of Vintage as soon as I saw them.

Lots of PC's

I received 4 envelopes today but the majority of the cards came from 1. I got a total of 11 cards and 7 of those came from that one seller. All were player collections but one.

1981 Fleer
This is the one Vintage collection card I picked up and it was one of the 7. I picked it up for $.06/shipped.

1983 Topps
2012 Panini Cooperstown
I picked up 2 more Gary Carter's, one vintage, one modern. The Topps I picked up for $.18/shipped and the Panini for $.21.

2011 Topps Gypsy Queen
Sticking with the Hall of Famer Catchers, here's the one card of Johnny Bench that I nabbed. I would have guessed I had this card but apparently not. I got this one for $.25/shipped.

2012 Panini Cooperstown
Sticking with the Hall of Famers, uh, battery, here's the one card of Tom Seaver that I got for $.31/shipped.

1993 Topps Black Gold
1996 Topps Finest
2012 Panini Cooperstown
I picked up 3 more of the former Maize and Blue star, and Hall of Famer Barry Larkin. The Black Gold I got for $.27, the Finest for $.30 and the Panini for $.21.

2008 Upper Deck Draft Edition
Sticking with the Maize and Blue, this card goes to the Mike Hart collection but it also features Jake Long in their famous winged helmets. I picked up this card for $.32.

2014 Topps Tier One New Guard Autographs
I picked up this autograph of the just called up to go on the DL White Sox rookie, Matt Davidson. He's the 2nd player to get called up to only end up on the DL. At least he got 2 at bats before his injury, including a hit and an RBI. This came to me for only $1.54/shipped.

2008 Upper Deck Game Materials
I also managed to grab another White Sox relic card of Mr. Perfect, Mark Buehrle. This came to me for only $2.75/shipped.

Photo Cleansing #12

Before the Photo Cleansing commences.  Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.  Although I haven’t been around a lot lately, I am definitely thankful to all of you.  For the trades, the chance to read your blogs, and just for bringing my love cards back to me.  I have a lot to post in the next week or so, been getting a lot of trades in, plus free cards and contests winnings, some ebay purchases and some group breaks.  Eventually I’ll get everything scanned and caught up.

Let’s start this off with an advertisement.  If you’re a fan of an AL Central team, I have the DVD set collection for you, check them out.

sports01

But seriously, on to the pics.  We are going right to the vintage pics today.

sports06

George Brett, upon retiring if I remember correctly.

sports07

When I saved this pic, I knew who they were, of course now, I can’t come up with the names.  But talk about a great pic.

sports10

Normally I wouldn’t post Rickey in a Yankees uniform, but I couldn’t help posting this ad when I read the top.

Not vintage enough for you, how about these.

sports08clemente

Roberto Clemente sliding in safely.

sports09robinson

Jackie Robinson trying to steal home.

sports11ford-mantle-martin

And how about Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle and Billy Martin.

I just don’t follow the NFL closely enough to find a bunch of pics of those, when I do, it’s Colts pics and lets face it, we don’t really want to discuss them this year do we?  But we can discuss the Maize and Blue as they go into the Ohio game.  Yes I know there is supposed to be State after that, but I’m taking Brady Hoke’s stand in never calling them that.  And I hate when former cheaters, err, I mean students say they went to “THE” you know, university.  Arrogant bastards,  Sorry!  Anyways, here’s some pics.

sports02

The Hemingway touchdown, that they ruled wasn’t a touchdown, but it was.

sports12

Denard gets in an open field, there is no catching up to him.

sports13

And our featured RB, who has been awesome as of late.

sports14

And next week’s cover will be sort of like this one, just newer.

And now let’s talk about that popular sport that once was.  The NBA, I just have 2 words.  WHO CARES!!!   Yep, that’s about it.  But I do have respect for the past NBA, back when it was good, which is where this final pic came from.

sports03

So like the NBA, I’m done.  Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.
