Vintage stars

It's Thursday so I'm done with work for the week. I got kicked out at 1 today because I hit my 40 hours and they aren't allowing overtime. Maybe I'll get some posts done this weekend. We are setting up at a small show on Saturday but it's only half an hour or so from home so I won't be gone all day.

Today, I'm going to hit a couple of collections. They kind of go together.

I got 3 cards for the team card collection. They are all mid 2000's. I was happy they came back at this time, I wish they had them in the newer sets. You'd think the heritage sets would at least have them. It's only my 4th card of the Marlins but they didn't have any Vintage. I have 14 cards of the Giants, 5 of them are after 2000. The Mets are now at 13 cards, 4 from after 2000. These 3 came from Sluggo

I said these collections go together before I realized the 3 cards I had for the team collection were all modern (sort of) but here we go anyways.

I picked up these 21 cards from sorting. He must have picked up some (sort of) Vintage lots from somebody.

These 13 cards also came from sorting. All of the players in both scans are of list players, some of the players I pull while doing the sorting. When I sort list players, I put them in player stacks. The guy that buys them pays more when they are already sorted. Obviously, these are the older players, mostly hall of famers. There's a lot more modern players than these but you won't see those here being it's a Vintage post.

Remember awhile ago, when I said the promoter at the Plymouth show told me he had some vintage on his table that I should see, Well the rest of the post are those cards.

As you can see, these are a lot better players than I normally purchase on the cheap. The Yaz is a player collection as well. Kevin was upset I grabbed the Hank Aaron before he saw it. I mean, I didn't grab it until the show was closing so it wasn't like he didn't have that option. These 2 cards give me 238 cards from that set which is good for 30% complete.

2 more stars and another needed PC card. These 2 1971's give me 199 cards which is just under 30% complete.

2 more of the same players only a year older. These 2 1970's give me 117 cards which is good for 16% complete. As you can tell, the older I get, the less cards I have.

Lastly, this 1968 of Killebrew gives me only 56 from that set which is still under 10%.

I paid $33 for those 7 cards which is way over what I normally spend, at least on 7 cards but those are some pretty good Vintage stars and not the usual commons that I pick up. Like I said, he was the promoter and a guy I consider a friend so I didn't mind handing him that much money.

Back at it

 Kevin (Sluggo) and I set up today in Michigan City today. We had an alright show. It's funny, because we did the first show there and there was only a few card dealers. It was mostly toys & comics and other stuff like that. Now, it's almost all card dealers, sports & pokemon. It's only been maybe 6 months since we did the first show.

We got there early, like we usually do, and once we were set up, I walked around a bit. This is the first show I've done in a month after doing them almost every weekend for about a year so I wanted to do some shopping without spending much money. I found some quarter boxes and better than that, they were sorting by player and they were all hall of famers. Some of my PC's fit right in so I thought I'd go through those players, grab a few cards and be done. The PC's that were in the box, I already had a lot of cards of each players because they were 80's and 90's players so I figured I wouldn't really find much.

Wrong!

I basically grabbed oddball stuff that I wasn't sure if I had it or not. Even if I thought it was a maybe, I was thinking, it's only a quarter, I'll take a chance. $43 later, I had my stack. Yikes! I ended up spending another $15 on a couple of cards at another deal who is actually local to us (Michigan City is about 45 minutes from us) so I got some work to do tomorrow.

I'll spend Sunday going through and logging those cards, plus a stack that Kevin gave me, plus some I picked up Friday at my LCS. Those come with a story as well but I'll leave that for the first post of those cards. Once I get them squared away tomorrow, I'll add them to the sorting process but today, you'll get some more of previous pick-ups.

I pulled these from the box of HOF'ers that I sorted for my LCS awhile ago. The 1980 is real so it also goes to the Vintage Collection, the 1975 is one of those Card Your Mom Threw Out but it's the original back version.

This is a 2022 Archives of Tom Terrific. It came from the same box as the Yastrzemski's. Seaver is one of my Tier 1 PC's so I'm always happy to add to his collection. I don't even mind his Mets cards because I was a fan of his before he played for the Sox.

The top card of Strawberry came from the HOF box as well. Obviously because of that other guy on it but I still needed it. It is from 1992 French's, which I assume is the Mustard company. The good old days when cards came with everything. The bottom card is from the sort after the list player box. I sorted a bunch of 2023 Topps cards which I already have the base cards that I needed so I only got a couple of inserts. This is one of them.

I also have a bunch more packs of cards to go through from my LCS to sort. I'll probably flip through those before I start logging in my new cards. I'm just hoping that I have time to get all of them done because Monday goes back to 10 hour days so I won't spend any more time down there working on my cards until next weekend and we have another show on Saturday so that already takes away one of my weekend days. If they make us stay at 40 hours then I will Friday off so that would be nice, except on the paycheck.

This is the first card on this post that I paid for. This 1972 Topps was in the half off box that Kevin bought from Hollister so I only paid $2.

Lots of vintage up there, very cheap in total for all of it. Cards as old as 50 plus years. If you add up everything, I paid less than $5 for all of it. The majority of it free as payment for sorting cards for Kevin and the LCS.

Another one down

Baseball is back! I watched our Spring Training game, not that it was terribly exciting being as we lost but it was great to watch some baseball again. The start of spring training signifies that Opening Day is right around the corner (32 days to be exact).

Today, we're not talking about the Sox though. Today, we're talking about another completed set and not a team set. I've completed my 6th set since starting to use Sportlots (and baseballcardstore.ca). I realize they are all 80's sets that aren't extremely difficult to finish but before, I wasn't even trying to complete them so I started with the sets that I was closest to finishing and they all happened to be 80's sets.

I picked up the last 52 cards I needed on Sportlots. If you remember, I picked up what I could from the baseballcardstore.ca back in October so these were all I had left to pick up.

I guess it's fitting that this set is features since the 2021 seems to be reusing the design.

As you can see, there are some great stars in this set but even though, this set isn't to hard to complete because there are no high dollar cards.

I went back on my spreadsheet and according to that, I only dropped $20.87 for all of them, half of that was probably on these 52 just because I wanted to finally complete it. I got a pretty big chunk of it in trades as well.

More 80's "Vintage"

Dodgers took game 1. If I had to pick a team I'd want to win, it would probably be the Rays. Just because they are in the AL East and it would rub the Red Sox and Yankees wrong. But either way, I don't mind who wins. I work with a Dodger's fan so if they won, I'd be okay with that. 

Here we go with another 80's vintage post. Good thing Jeff sent a lot.

A couple of pretty good pitcher's in that top row. I didn't mind the 1982 Donruss set but some reason, I don't like this one with the gloves. It's pretty much the same but the glove just doesn't sit right with me. Not sure why. Jeff sent me these 10 cards to give me 56 cards for the set.

I think I might have bought this full set at a card show back in the day. I vaguely remember doing so but I have no idea if it's true or not. I was never into set collecting so I'm sure I got a good deal and I probably broke it up. As you can see above, Jeff dropped a pretty good number on my current attempt at it. These 37 cards put that set at 113 cards.

Jeff hit all 3 major sets with these 47 from the Topps set. Seeing all these Topps cards from the 80's is bringing back so many memories. I don't think I liked this set when it first came out but it grew on me. I was a fan of the 1982 set and this was vastly different. I wasn't so sure about the headshots but like I said, it grew on me. Enough so that when they did it again in 1984, I liked it. I also remember that Willie McGee rookie being a hot commodity. These boosted the set to 185 cards.

Photo Cleansing #12

Before the Photo Cleansing commences.  Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.  Although I haven’t been around a lot lately, I am definitely thankful to all of you.  For the trades, the chance to read your blogs, and just for bringing my love cards back to me.  I have a lot to post in the next week or so, been getting a lot of trades in, plus free cards and contests winnings, some ebay purchases and some group breaks.  Eventually I’ll get everything scanned and caught up.

I just don’t follow the NFL closely enough to find a bunch of pics of those, when I do, it’s Colts pics and lets face it, we don’t really want to discuss them this year do we?  But we can discuss the Maize and Blue as they go into the Ohio game.  Yes I know there is supposed to be State after that, but I’m taking Brady Hoke’s stand in never calling them that.  And I hate when former cheaters, err, I mean students say they went to “THE” you know, university.  Arrogant bastards,  Sorry!  Anyways, here’s some pics.
