Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Plymouth Pickups

Geez, I didn't realize how far behind I was. Yesterday we did the Fort Wayne show. Last weekend we did the South Bend Show and the Saturday before that we did the Plymouth show. Which is what I'm showing today. I need to get my crap together.

First off, Jeremy who is a long time friend in the show scene. We met him at the very first show I set up at. His work schedule hasn't allowed him to do very many anymore but he popped into the show that Saturday. He brought me this card, I was pretty sure I had it but I try to always check if I have the time and I didn't. I had another variation of it. He just said I could have it.

I went through Corey's $1 box who was set up next to us. I wasn't planning on buying anything but the end of the shows always get a little slow and I get bored. I found all of these in there. Always like getting a new Scotty Pods and I liked Burger when he was here so I usually grab his Sox cards as well. The bottom 3, I have a bunch from that set so I grabbed a few that I didn't have.

  • Scott Podsednik - 35 cards
  • Jake Burger - 44 cards
  • Jonathan Stiever - 10 cards
  • Lance Lynn - 18 cards
  • Hoyt Wilhelm - 15 cards

I also picked up another Cronenworth and Zimmerman that I didn't have. I wasn't sure about the Zimmy but I didn't have the sparkle.

  • Jake Cronenworth - 86 cards
  • Ryan Zimmerman - 403 cards

He also had this 1973 Topps mixed in with all that new stuff and I happen to need it for my set.

  • 1973 Topps - 83% complete
All of the above and the card on the right below all came from the $1 box. How much did he charge me for all that. $3. I'm telling you, it pays to make friends at these shows.

Corey said he had the card below in his showcase so I had to look, then I also saw the other card above. I love the Black Chrome Sox cards with black being one of our team colors. They look so great so I couldn't turn that card down.

  • Andrew Vaughn - 112 cards (my 2nd auto)

While I was going through his $1 box, he told me he had a Konerko auto. I was really hoping it was one I already had so I wouldn't have to buy it but it wasn't. This jersey/auto is also seriel #'d /25. The price tag on this card was $25 and the Vaughn auto was $10. He gave them both to me for $25. So much for not spending any money at this show.

  • Paul Konerko - 783 cards (6 autographs)
I don't do so good at not spending at card shows.

More sorting goodies

I went to post this and realized 2 posts ago was number 2,500. Yay me!

Sluggo and I set up at the Shipshewana show today which was extremely busy. It's a pretty big show, the biggest one that we do on a regular basis. We have customers come up later in the day all the time and say, "I tried to get up to your table earlier, but it was packed." That's always a good thing. Today was no exception, great show. I only spent $15 but I'll get to those later as I'm still playing catch up.

These are the cards I picked up while sorting a couple of weeks ago. I have more sorting cards but I haven't logged them all in on my spread sheets yet. I got them on TCDB, just not my sheets. I will probably take care of that next weekend since I have another show tomorrow.

I grabbed 1 team card from sorting, it's not technically an MLB team card but I never really said MLB so I'm keeping it.

Obviously this is team USA from Stars & Stripes. This gives me 322 team cards which is way more than I thought I had.

Next up, White Sox collection.

This scan are all the young guys and a couple of older ones. I put the Sheets with Wake Forest in just in case I decide to PC him. That's also why I'm showing Crochet and Colas. The only way I'd PC Burger is if he came back to the Sox but I liked him when he was here. I was mad when they traded him. Plus, I showed the Scotty Pods who is intregal in the 2005 Championship plus Eddie Collins.

  • Gavin Sheets = 46 cards
  • Garrett Crochet = 37 cards
  • Jake Burger = 39 cards
  • Oscar Colas = 14 cards
  • Scott Podsednik = 34 cards
  • Eddie Collins = 6 cards

More White Sox cards but this batch are former Sox players who I have quite a few cards of.
  • Tim Anderson = 242 cards
  • Lucas Giolito = 158 cards
  • Jose Abreu = 285 cards
Next up are Tier 3 player's.

Both newer cards which since so many sets are doing that now, I'm constantly having to pick up even more of guys who haven't played in years.
  • Steve Carlton = 232 cards
  • Cal Ripken jr = 988 cards

A couple more Tier 3, at least the Strawberry is from his playing days.
  • Johnny Bench = 241 cards
  • Darryl Strawberry = 166 cards
Next up, Tier 2.

Always great to see more LueBob come in since he's about the only great player we had last year. Maybe somebody can step it up this year.
  • Luis Robert = 217 cards

Look how young Eloy looks. The last 2 from Tier 2. I thought I had the Larkin but apparently not.
  • Eloy Jimenez = 222 cards
  • Barry Larkin = 754 cards
Last but not least, some Tier 1 adds.

Always great to see new Konerko's as he's my favorite player. That Prism means he also has 500 more color parallels to get. That Boyhood Photos card is from Heritage Minors.

  • Paul Konerko = 767 cards
Next up is some trade cards but wait until you see the next sorting post. Since I didn't have a show last weekend, I did a lot of sorting and ended up with a lot to add to my PC's.

Until next time.

Lotsa Sox

Even though it's a White Sox post, I'm not talking about the team this year. Beyond frustrated but we are winning at the moment. We'll see if they can hold it.

I've picked up cards for this collection for awhile without getting a post so there's a lot of cards. I'll just bunch them on where I got them.

All of the above were freebies from Sluggo. He got in a lot from his guy and there was an 800 count box of this stuff so I went through it and grabbed what I didn't have. Lots of new Bowman and lots of shiny. Some of the other stuff I picked up awhile ago from him.

These all came from last box of Sportlots. The top pic are all TCMA's (I think) but I don't remember what year. The bottom 2 I think are pretty cool. They are 1979 Fleer Grand Slam stickers.

I picked up all these at my LCS. The top photo were all dime box cards and they were thrown in on the purchase. I picked up the Abreu relic there, I've been eyeballing it for awhile and I finally picked it up. It's numbered to /99. The autographs I wanted to grab some of players that I didn't have. I knew I was going to grab the Scotty Pods when I saw it. I definitely wanted an auto of one our World Series heroes. I didn't have one of Grandal or Mags. I have a bunch of relics of him but this is my first auto.

I picked up these 2 at the card show in Warsaw. I liked Madrigal, wish they wouldn't have gotten rid of him and Sheets is doing pretty well as of late.

These 2 both came from Fred. Leury was great last year, this year, not so much and Burger has some pretty key hits for us this year so I'll definitely take a rookie card of him.

These 2 both came from the dealer at the Fort Wayne show that I bought a bunch of vintage cards for a buck a piece, these included. The top one goes in my Team collection as well and the bottom one also goes to my Schmidt PC. I had the 1975 mini of the bottom card, but not the regular sized one.

I picked up the above 3 at the Shipshewana show but they all came from 3 dealers that I buy from all the time. The top card came from Hollister, the middle (mini) from a guy named Joe that we set up at Mishawaka and Plymouth. The bottom one from Josh who runs the Plymouth show.

These 3 were throw in's with my cousin's cards when we went up to the Stanton Man Cave card shop. I don't actively look for these pocket schedules but I do pick them up when I run into them.

Last but not least, Dennis sent these last 2 scans to me. The Frank Thomas is numbered to /25, love low numbered cards. The Kittle relic is my first of him but I do have an autographed card as well as a 5x7 autographed photo of him. I actually have a bunch of Abreu relics but this might be my first bat card.

Like I said, a lot of Sox for one post.

Sox Collectibles

I really wished the media wouldn't have hyped up our bullpen because ever since they did, all they do is blow games. I read somewhere where all our losses have been on the bullpen, don't know if that is true or not. We had the lead twice today and still lost in extra innings. The really bad thing is we ditched Colome, he had a good record as a closer but he scared me all the time, and picked up Hendriks and he blew the save today. Cease struggled a bit but only gave up a run and Kopech continues to look lights. Our lack of offense with all those big bats worries me more, we continue to leave a lot of men on base. I do realize we're only 9 games in and it's a long season but it worries me anyways.

I mentioned that I went to a LCS a few weeks ago. While I did buy some cards there, the majority of the money I spent was on the following stuff for my card room. I added a 2nd shelving unit in there so now I have more space to fill with sports related knick knacks as my wife likes to call them.

They had a couple of Starting Lineups of Bo Jackson in Sox uniforms and the best part, they were only $2 bucks a piece. How can I not pick them up at that price.

As I was walking up to the counter, I saw this sitting next to the counter. This McFarlane of Scott Podsednik was there for only $5. I thought it was a pretty cool figurine sliding in to the base and it's Scotty Pods who was a huge part of our World Series Championship. All 3 of the above were in their packages and we're freed upon arriving at their forever home.

This was also on the wall and was only $10. I like the vintage feel it gives off and all the different Sox logos.

Even if I didn't get a ton of cards, I think I added some pretty cool collectibles.
