Card Show Lots

Well, Michigan lost after the offense decided to not show up and the White Sox lost their opener essentially on an error. Not a great way to start the season, but we do tend to struggle on the west coast. I know it's only the first game in a long season but to be honest, I'm just happy regular baseball is back.

I need to remember next time, not to let my Sportlots package get so huge because it takes forever to log and scan them. I got them logged finally after a few hours during the week and most of today. Tomorrow I will be scanning but I have to help my brother move some stuff so hopefully that won't take too long.

Today's random came up with something we don't see too often anymore but I ran into some at the card show. A guy had small lots of Vintage together, really cheap because they weren't in the best conditions. I picked up a few because of the types of cards they were or the amount there was.

I paid $1 for this lot and it actually had 5 cards. The other 2 will be in another post as they go to another collection as well. Still, $.20 a piece, who can pass that up. These 3 (and the other 2) put that set at 242 cards.

I paid $.50 for this lot of 3, these are a little more battered than the 1977's but I figured worse comes to worse, I'll replace them if I actually get close to finishing the set. These 3 put that set at 353 cards so at least I'm a little over half on that one.

These 13 cards came in 2 lots but they were only $.50 each which you can see why, some of them are pretty beat up. There were other cards with these 2 lots but I already had them, they were Sox cards because even with these 13, I only have 99 cards from this set and almost 1/3 of them are Sox cards as I'm only 1 card short of the team set.

I paid $1 for this lot. Yeah, I know there's only 1 card. The lot was 5 cards and they were all leaders cards from 1971 but this and one other were the only 2 that I needed. The other one had a player collection so you'll see that when I do his post. You know those leaders cards have some great names on them though. I even gave two of the dupes to Fred at work because they had Cubs players on them. The 2 I needed give me 112 cards for that set.

Sox are up so far, let's hope they keep it tonight. I'm out!

Cheaper Than Stamps #30

This is a series where I show off cards I need for my PC’s that I pick up on Ebay or COMC for cheaper than a stamp.  My maximum I spend on these cards is actually $.30 so I get them quite a bit cheaper than a stamp.

We’re back to cards from the Vintage collection.  We always start with the younger cards and work our way back to the older ones.

1987 Donruss – Bob Walk #203, Tony Armas #498

I picked up the Bob Walk for $.11 and the Tony Armas for $.10.  I still put my max bid of $.29 on 1987’s even though I hate paying a quarter for them so it’s nice when it works out to pick them up out of a virtual dime box.

1987 Topps – Neil Allen #113, Tom Browning #65, TR Bryden #387

Picked all 3 of these up for a dime a piece as well, all from the same seller so again, happy to get them cheaper since they are junk wax.

1987 Topps – Tim Stoddard #788, Joel Youngblood #759, Dwight Evans #645

I actually paid $.22 for the Stoddard, probably had to overpay because he’s a New York Yankees.  The other 2 cars came at a dime a piece which pretty much seems to be the average on 1987 Topps, unless you’re a Yankee.

1987 Topps – Frank White #69, Jamie Quirk #354

Paid a dime a piece for both of the Kansas City Royals.  But upon further review, I already had the Frank White, oops.

1987 Topps – Gary Carter (All-Star) #602

The first thing I do when I get a stack of cards is scan them, I scanned this to be part of the Gary Carter collection which is why it’s scanned by itself.  The second thing I do is log them into the Google documents which is when I figured out I bought this for the vintage collection because I already had it in the GCC.  I paid $.11 for it.

I’m thinking I need to alter my process because I screwed up a bunch of scans per collections.  As you’ll see in the next week or so.

1986 Topps – Pete Rose #6, Dan Quisenberry #722

I paid $.20 for the Pete Rose years card and I have no record of actually purchasing the Quisenberry so I can’t give you an amount.  I keep the cards on my purchased list on Ebay until I post them here so either I accidently deleted it already or maybe it was a throw in with other cards I purchased.  That does happen every so often since they are junk wax cards.

Cheaper Than Stamps #18

We left off with 1984, so here’s the next few years.

1983 Topps – Julio Gonzalez, Dwight Bernard, Lee Mazzilli, Richard Dotson, Sal Butero and Tony Armas

Like the last post, I combined singles and lots so you’ll have to trust me that I spent less than a quarter on each card.  Nothing too exciting up above, I remember collecting this set.  Really, all the Topps set bring back memories, they were the easiest to find at the local drug store.

1983 Fleer – Greg Brock, David Green and Dave Rucker.

I’m pretty sure each of these were singles.  Again nothing exciting but I absolutely love these 80’s sets.  So many memories.

1983 Fleer – Superstar Specials Willie Stargell & Pete Rose, Ben Oglivie & Reggie Jackson, Robin Yount & Buddy Bell, Dave Winfield & Kent Hrbek

I won this in a lot of 5, the other card had some Boston Red Sox on it which also included Carl Yastrzemski so it went to that player collection.  Some great players up there that I got pretty cheap.  You can’t beat that.

1983 Donruss – Mel Hall, Eddie Milner, Candy Maldonado, Gary Gaetti, Dave Hostetler and George Wright

As you can see, I picked up a lot of 1980’s this time around.  Once a week, I do an ebay search for each year from 1952-1987 of Topps and 1981-1987 on Fleer and Donruss.  It takes awhile, which is why I only do it once a week.

1983 Donruss – Greg Brock, Glen Wilson and Storm Davis

Donruss didn’t change their design much it’s first few years, this year going with the bat and glove at the bottom.  But at least they had a license and could use the team names.
