Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

What base?

I supposed I should put up a post. I haven't been on it as I am normally. I've been working a bunch of hours so I've been wore out when I get home. Haven't felt like taking the time to post.

Today's post is another team post but a few more cards than that last one.

Both of these came from Fred. The Abreu is the rainbow foil and the Mercedes is only my 7th. The way he started off his pro career with the Sox, I figured I'd have a ton but after a really good month, he dropped out of sight and isn't even with the Sox anymore.

These 7 cards came from Sluggo. I gave him $5 for all of these and a couple of Michigan PC's. None of them are base cards and you can see the the manu relic. Thick as hell like most of them but this has the Chicago city flag. Sheets played quite a bit for us this past year and did well. I'm hoping he stays on the team which would depend on if we make any signings or not. This is my 11th card of Sheets. The 2 Rodon's give me 64 of him and the 2 Abreu's and the 1 above that give me 184 of him, which is quite a bit for a non PC but only my 2nd highest non PC players.

Dennis did the same thing as Sluggo only earlier players, no base cards and even a couple with serial numbers Here's a rundown of the players numbers - Albert Belle is at 55 cards, Josh Fields is at 22 cards (1st on TCDB, surprised me as well), Alexei Ramirez is at 77 cards (1st on TCDB) and Adam Dunn with 62 cards. You may have noticed I skipped Frank Thomas, well he's at 585 cards. Yep, you guessed it, he's my highest non PC player. Even with that many cards, I just barely cracked the top 25 on TCDB. Good old 90's stars have a crap ton of cards.

Dennis almost always hooks me up with a relic or 2. The other was a player PC (Funchess) and you've already seen it. This is my 92nd card of Dye and my 8th relic of his.

These all came from people as I've been more active on player PC's than my Sox collection. I technically purchased the ones from Sluggo but they came in a lot he purchased and I get first dibs on all the lots.

Lotsa Sox

I've been slacking lately, just haven't been in the mood. Think of it as a mini-vacation. I'm also low on posts because I haven't gotten around to getting new cards ready so I only have a couple of posts left. I've ordered my package from Sportlots but I haven't received confirmation that it's shipped yet. I was really hoping to have it before the weekend since that's when I usually work on cards. I'm only working a few hours tomorrow, I was going to come home and start working on my cards but I guess we're going to Indy in the afternoon so we'll be gone for awhile. Maybe Saturday. Probably no post tomorrow either as we probably won't get home until late.

Today's post is a team collection of a team that has finally got their crap together but it's probably too little too late. Which is frustrating because had they done it a week sooner, they might have a decent chance of making the playoffs. Now we have to win damn near every game, including 4 against Cleveland who haven't been losing either. Although we beat them in a make up game today.

These 4 came from Fred. A couple more Heritage in the mix.

These 13 came from Sluggo. I actually got them awhile ago and barely knew who Romy Gonzalez was but he's been playing and doing really well for the Sox so now that I see that card again, I'm even happier to have an auto of him. There's also another rookie of him up there. Those are my first 2 cards of him.

These 7 cards all came from Dennis at Too Many Verlanders. He surprised me with a package a little while ago (and last week) with these Sox cards. None are base and 2 relics and an autograph. I thought I had the Tracey autograph but I think I had a Carlos Quentin from that set but I got rid of it as it was a Diamondbacks card so it didn't fit in the collection. I should have known I didn't have it because Dennis and I are both on TCDB and check each others lists before we send to each other. We share a bunch of collections so it's easy to find stuff for him. He sent me another package earlier this week that I need to get through yet, hopefully this weekend.

There are a few cards up there who are my first cards of those players. Romy Gonzalez that I mentioned, also Brian Goodwin and a couple of those Bowman's. I did a spreadsheet to see how many White Sox players I have cards of and with those cards in this post, it bumped me up to 950 different players.

Lotsa Lotsa Sox

Yikes! I pulled up the random and I got the team collection White Sox. I guess the bad thing about doing these posts by random is I've gotten so many Sox cards since I posted it last time that this will be a very heavy photo post.

We'll start off with all the Sportlots pick-ups. These were all a quarter or less.

A bunch of Bowman.

And a bunch of the Gold Star parallels. Quite a bit of the team set.

Some 80's Sox, the top 3 are all part of the Vintage collection as well.

You know I love that top row. The 1968 game piece is a pretty awesome pickup for the price.

These are all also part of the Vintage collection.

Lastly, a bunch of 70's oddballs. I'd say I did pretty good with the extra pick-ups from Sportlots.

Next up are the cards I got from Sluggo's Sports Cards.

How about some more Bowman.

Some assorted A&G.

Some Donruss, new and a little older.

Some Panini Prizms. I grabbed the Crochet just because the Sox are the only team he's played for so far and he's pitching for us now.

Some various Topps.

Upper Deck.

Various cards.

Lots of 80's Sox that also go to the Vintage collection.

A couple of dollar cards he let me have. I like the look of manufactured patches but I hate what they are. A nice autograph rookie from a guy who spent most of his year with the Sox before being sent back to the minors.

Next up is some dime box material I picked up at our last LCS trip.

I was really happy with the parallel stuff up in that first photo.

Next up are a few cards that Fred brought me at work.

Fred always brings me cards that I think, I totally have those, then I don't.

Speaking of dime boxes, the next section were all dime box pickups at the card show I went to last weekend.

All but the Dallas Keutchel in the pic above were dime box. The Keutchel was $1. Almost everything up there is a parallel of some sort which was great for a buck.

Next, a couple of Sox cards I picked up at the Baseball Card Exchange awhile back.

I picked up the Smith auto for $3 and that awesome looking card of Fulmer was only $5.

Next up, Dennis from Too Many Verlanders sent some Sox cards.

You know Dennis is gonna send good cards, parallels, relics and an autograph. I'm keeping the Beckham relic even though it's a Georgia card because he spent the majority of his career with the Sox. I know he's commentating but I don't know where. He has done some Sox games recently which is why I know that he's commentating. I don't know if he's in the Sox organization though, I feel like he works somewhere else but came in to help us out.

Last but not least is all my Sox stuff from the National. I actually did a pretty good job of not spending much money the first day, then I ran into the bottom 3 photos.

Fr
I picked up the last 3 pics on the 2nd day. I spent close to $50 on all of that, which I still feel is a great price. I was excited when I ran into that table. I paid $3 for the majority of it and the 1951 & 1952 Bowman's I paid $4.

Like I said, a lot of photos. Congrats if you made it to the end to see the awesome vintage.
