Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Sox and Former Sox & Wolverines

I finally got a break from all the birthday posts. At least for today. I have this week off work so I'll be working on some of my LCS's cards. Although I have plans most of the week so it won't be an all day thing. I'm a few posts behind as I picked up some cards last weekend and with all the birthday's, I haven't had a chance to post them. We did 2 shows this past weekend as well but I didn't pick anything up at those 2.

Today's post all came from Sluggo (Kevin). First up, are the cards he pulled while doing his sorting.

First off, the White Sox cards. He pretty much only pulls oddball and recently released cards for me because I usually end up having a ton of the regular base stuff. I like the Montgomery, I have a feeling he'll be our starting shortstop by the end of the year.

I haven't decided if I'm keeping this or not. I think I'll be ditching the Anderson collection anyways. All the cards will stay in the Sox collection but I don't plan on collecting him with any other teams now that he was let go and technically, this is another team. I already had it scanned so I figured I'd show it. I do like the WBC cards.

This is my 231st card of TA.

Supposedly the Dodgers are trying to get him from us. I may still collect him if he goes somewhere else but we'll see.

This cards put my Cease collection at an even 100.

He's no longer with the Sox either but I will continue to collect him. I like him, he seems like a good guy and I love his fire when he plays.

This is only my 37th card of Hendriks, I really need to get some more.

It says this is a coin card but it doesn't really look like a coin. Not a fan of some of these manurelics, this being one of them. Glad I didn't pay anything for it.

This is my 204th card of Eloy.

Luckily he hit me up with some from the other team I like, the one that is actually doing well.

I've been getting a bunch of Haskins lately, you'll see more when I get more free days to post.

You'll also be seeing more of Paye in the near future. I got a small stack of those last weekend as well.

Another 2023 A&G. You've seen a few of those this post. Denard made this years set so I could add another to my collection.

He sent me 2 of these Matrix cards, both former Fab Fivers. This one of our current coach (when he gets back from medical leave).

This is my 126th of Juwan.

A couple more of the other Fab Fiver and as you can see, the other Matrix. I'm not sure I knew they had sets that looked like former baseball sets but I like it.

These 2 give me 139 cards of Rose.

He also found 1 more of Franz for the PC. I wasn't sure if this was a Michigan jersey for the Michigan collection but the Jordan logo gives it away. Funny that they can put that on a card but not Michigan.

This is my 37th card of Franz.

As I said, these all came from Kevin during his sorting. My next post will also be from Kevin but they didn't come from sorting.

Lotsa Sox

Finally got my cards from Sportlots all logged in and started scanning them, the bad thing is tomorrow we are going up to 10 hour days so I'm not sure when I'll finish. I have so many cards to get logged in for my cousin but I can't seem to finish my own. I usually ship my Sportlots box around the 1st, and it's now the 22nd and I'm still not finished. I've been a slacker.

Today you get some team cards that came from Fred, at work. There's a whole bunch of cards because they've been building up. Usually a couple of times a week, he brings me cards. On average, I have half of what he gives me but I still end up with a bunch that I don't have. They are in order in how he gave them to me.

First up is this color parallel of 2020 Panini Absolute of the current MVP. I marked this down as receiving it in May so I've had it for awhile now.

First up is this 2000 Pacific Omega of Mags, it is my 164th card of Ordonez. The Kip Wells is also from 2000 and is a pretty slick looking card, better than the scan looks.

Occasionally, Fred will hit me up with a bunch from one set. I don't know if he comes across these in his collection or somewhere else. These 5 cards put me over half way on the 18 card team set.

Some 90's White Sox studs up there with Thigpen, Kittle and McDowell. The last card is a press proof and I think it's probably the first time I've seen one from the 1995 set. The Thigpen puts me at 48 cards, almost half a century and the McDowell puts me at 56 cards.

These were the first of the 2021 Heritage that I received, although I don't think they are the first I've shown. I know everyone loves the 1972 set but I was never a fan.

Love the red, white and blue prisms, even better when it's a stud like Abreu. The 3 Abreu's up there give me 152 of him. I've been debating on starting a PC of him, he's really been growing on me the last couple of years. I've always liked him but his play has meant more to me. The Andre Rienzo is also a color parallel.

A couple of cool looking Metal Universe cards, the Durham is really cool, it looks like he's running right through the card.

Fred also sent me 3 from the 1995 Flair set, I do like the looks but I hate that the name and team are in the same color as the backgrounds. The 2 Ray Durhams up there give me 76 cards of him.

As you can tell, on this day, he gave me an assortment of cards. The Steve Sax from 1993 leaves me 6 cards short of that 22 card set but the Wayne Edwards from 1991, in the middle, completes the 33 card team set. Although, when I went to TCDB to check, they have 2 checklists listed in the team set and I'm pretty sure they weren't listed before but I guess I need those 2 now. Damn it! The oddball in this group is the 2019, it is the 150th anniversary parallel.

These 5 put me 3 cards away from that team set which is a 28 card team set. Might have to grab those on Sportlots next time.

And on the opposite side of the spectrum, those are the first 2 cards of the 1996 Ultra set. The Gold Medallion's are cool but they would have been better with a team logo or something in the background, not the Ultra logo.

Last but not least, Fred brought me these modern cards a couple of weeks ago. They were my first of the A&G Chrome and those are some nice looking cards. They've gone Chrome on Stadium Club and A&G (and flagship), I wonder if they are going to give some other the treatment. Now that I think about it, they are in Heritage as well in a limited capacity. Danny Mendick is the only one still with the ballclub. James Beard still is as well but he's still in the minors.

As you can tell, Fred gives me quite a few cards and I still need quite a few of them.

Fred Sox

Today, I'm going to show off the cards that I get from Fred, whom I work with. Every few days or so he brings me a couple of cards. He's going through all his cards from 30 years ago and when he comes across Sox cards, he brings them in to me. I scan them when I get them so that's how the pics will be. He actually brought me in a couple yesterday but I haven't gotten around to doing them yet so you'll see those in the next round.

I didn't realize how often he gives me cards until I was uploading all the scans.

I had this Jason Bere from 1994 Upper Deck but I didn't have the Electric Diamond parallel and a Magglio rookie from Fleer.

When he started bringing the cards in and I saw all those 90's, I figured I'd have most of them. I had some but he gave me a lot more than I thought I would need. This is my 3rd card of Clemons and my 32nd of Roberto Hernandez.

These 2 were studs in the 90's for the Sox, Black Jack McDowell and Rockin' Robin.

As you can tell, he had some that weren't 90's. I think he'd pick up cheap cards at the LCS or card shows for me as well. This is my 13th card of Danish.

He gave me my first 2021 Topps awhile ago and he gave me these as well. They only get shown because I received them before the box breaks cards that I had won. That is my 1st card of Heuer, my 146th of the current MVP and my 10th of Leury.

Back to the 90's with this trio of Ventura cards. Again, I though I had all 3 of these but nope.

An assortment of early to mid 90's. Another Blackjack along with a Bo Jackson, I wasn't a huge fan of his, didn't hate him or anything, but wasn't really into him. I did like Ray Durham though. That is my 9th of Parque, my 26th of Bo and my 74th of Durham.

I do like getting Mike Caruso cards. I know you're thinking who? Back in the day, the White Sox had a minor league team right here in South Bend (they are the Cubs now) and he's one of the few names I remember seeing play here. Jason Bere is another one of those guys but I remember him more from his pro career. This is my 25th of Caruso, my 48th of Belle and my 37th card of Bere.

We've seen all 3 of these guys already. I thought I had both of those Award Winners. Makes me wonder how many cards I fly by flipping through dime boxes thinking I already had them. The Fernandez at the bottom is the silver signature version and is my 46th of him.

I remember buying a box of these Collector's Choice back in the day. I think my cousin (Sluggo) and I split it. That was back when cards were cheap. It is my 3rd of Fabregas and my 5th of Valdez.

Another Maggs, with a rookie cup and another McDowell. The above Ordonez's give me 161 of him and my 55th of Jack McDowell.

Another trio, this time of 1998 Upper Deck's. This Cameron makes my 20th, my 6th of Norberto and my 12th of Navarro.

He also picked up some packs of Heritage and gave me this Keuchel. It's only my 5th of Keuchel.

A couple more for the late 90's. I told you he sent a bunch of cards in the last couple of months. This is my 5th of Scott Eyre and my 15th of Abbott.

Lastly, he picked this up at a card show for me. I think he said he only paid a couple of bucks for it and he bought it for me. This is my 6th card of Thompson and my first auto of his.

I feel bad that I never give him any cards but the one time, but that one time was an 800 count box about 3/4 full of Cubs cards so it's not like he's even close to giving me what I gave him (for the record, he doesn't have to give me anything) I just feel bad because a couple times a week he gives me cards and I just keep taking. I have to remind myself that I already gave him a box.

White Sox Nachos Style

I spent most of the day in my card room scanning more cards for TCDB. I posted 113 scans. I got all my player collections done, or so I thought. I was working on my autographs binder and I noticed some of my player collections were coming up with some of the cards without photos. Not just 1 or 2, I saw probably close to 10 and I know I went through all of them and added photos so I don't know what happened with the photos. The ones missing weren't ones that I posted either so I don't know why they got deleted but I guess when I finish my binders, I'll have to go back through them.

Today's post comes from Chris at Nachos Grande, I buy into his box breaks, or I used to. I still try but being as Luis Robert is on the team I collect, I get beat out by people, I assume, looking to flip his cards. I get notifications on my Facebook when he posts a new box so I don't miss them but I don't get notifications to my phone. I don't for any of the social media because I don't feel the need to be on them all the time. So by the time I get on Facebook and see there was a post, the White Sox are usually gone. I'll still be able to buy in on the older sets but those I'm more picky on just because some of them I don't really need as I already have them. Since I wasn't able to buy in on the last few boxes, I went ahead and had him ship what else I had left.

I don't blame Chris for what happened, it's good for him because he has a better chance of filling his breaks so he doesn't lose money. Lose money and he can't do the breaks. It is what it is. Hopefully these flippers won't be around long and things can go back to normal.

I really don't remember what breaks I bought into so I'm just guessing that these 3 were all extras that Chris threw in. Although I thought I bought into a SI box but I think I got those already. He actually did a pretty good job sending ones I didn't have considering I have a ton of Frank's and the Abreu gives me 133.

These 2 were the first of that team set. I still need the Frank Thomas and the 2 numbered prospects. The Loaiza only gives me 10 cards of him.

The same for this set, these were the first 3 of the 2000 Pacific Prism. These 3 put me over half way though because there are only 5 in the team set. That Mags gives me 154 of him and 72 of Ray Durham.

The Mike Caruso on the left completes the set for me but that's because there's only 2 cards. The other being Frank Thomas which I also got from the break but I already had that one. I did however, pull the Thomas on the right which is the Radiance parallel numbered to 100 and that scans so much better than the base. It is a pretty nice card. All the Thomas' in this post give me 542 cards of his.

Thanks again Chris, hope to get in some more breaks in 2021.

Private Box Break

Hello all! No post yesterday as my wife and I went out for supper since it was our 10th anniversary. We don't generally go inside and eat, not because of Covid, but because we generally don't like being around people. They usually annoy us. We had a good meal and survived among the people. Nothing special, just spent some good quality time together.

As promised, we finally get away from the Vintage for today's post, although I probably hold most of your interest with the Vintage than I do my team collections. Oh well!

I joined a box break over at Nachos Grande for some 2000 Pacific Private Stock. I generally look at the checklist with what I have, to see where I'm at for the team collection and that determines whether or not I buy in. The box break provided me with half of the team set with the above 3. I was hoping to get the Konerko as it is a player collection but that didn't work out.

Honestly, I don't even remember that name. I got this insert as well. I already have the Frank Thomas mini so I only need 1 more to finish the team set of the (PS-2000 Action) insert set.

When I weight out on whether or not to buy in, I never count on these kinds of hits just because I never get them. I did win this from that break though. It's another mini but as you can tell, it's numbered to /299. It's the only White Sox in the PS-2000 Stars insert set.

I like Chris' box breaks because he allows stacking which is he'll hold your cards until you're ready to ship so you can join multiple box breaks and not have to pay a bunch of shipping cost.

Ray Ray

I did get one card today, nothing to exciting unless your a fellow Sox fan.

I picked up this Ray Durham for $.28/shipped. It's the Finest with the protective cover. I guessed at whether or not I had it, I guessed correctly which was a good thing since this is my 63rd card of Durham.

Huge Mail Day

Believe it or not, I haven't been absent out of laziness, this time. I actually just hadn't received any cards all week. That is, until today and than I got a bunch at once. 4 envelopes to be exact but nobody cares about that, let's get to the cards.

We'll start with the freebies. These 3 were all throw in's on one of the other packages. Now I do occasionally get extras but never cards like these. Usually throw in's are from the junk wax era. I can definitely get on board with these, especially a Stadium Club.

I actually picked up 4 of these 2002 UD Vintage, these 2 obviously go to the White Sox collection. This is my 69th card of Carlos Lee and my 62nd of Ray Durham. I picked them both up for $.25/shipped/each.

I also added a couple more of Frank Thomas cards giving me 409 cards which would place him 3rd in my player collections, if I had a player collection of him. I paid $.44/shipped and $.41/shipped for them.

I also grabbed another 2019 Heritage which puts this team collection at only needing 1 card, minus the short prints. This is also my 5th card of Nate Jones and I picked it up at $.44/shipped.

I did get 1 player collection card, actually 2 but I already had the Larkin from the same set. As you can probably guess, I grabbed this one with the above 2 that go with it. I picked this one up for $.25/shipped as well and it is my 448th card of his which is my highest amount in a player collection.

Last but not least, I picked up another Delmonico auto, it's my 3rd one in a month. I only paid $1.50/shipped for it and it's my 8th card of his and as I said, 3 of those are autographs.
