Tier 1 sorting

Went over to Sluggo's after work today to prep a few more things for the big show in Shipshewana tomorrow. The bad thing is that it snowed pretty good here so I'm hoping that doesn't effect the attendance too much. We were pumped up for this show because they only do it 4 times a year and the first one is always the biggest, attendance wise. There's over 180 tables so it's always busy but the 1st one of the year is always the busiest. Plus, a fellow blogger is supposed to make an appearance but he's coming from up North and I'm afraid the snow will be too much. It's supposed to stop snowing tonight and it's not supposed to get real cold and get close to 40 tomorrow so while the roads might suck in the morning, I think they will clear off by late morning. It's also an hour East of us so for all I know, there isn't any snow because that's how Indiana works sometimes.

Today's post will feature my Tier 1 pick-ups, which I don't get to add to very often.

I picked up both of these from the boxes we are sorting and selling from the Man Cave up North. As you can tell by the Dodgers uniforms, these are early in his career.

I picked up these 2 from Hollisters at the Lansing show. Technically, we bought a huge box of cards from him and then I paid Sluggo for them at even more of a discount. I like both of these because I like the early Chrome's and Finest are always nice, these are both refractors as well. I paid less than a buck a piece for these.

These 4 give me 742 cards of PK.

I picked up this from Kevin, it's another one of those retired edition cards that I didn't know existed. It was a freebie for sorting.

This was another one that I got in the Man Cave boxes, so once again, another freebie. This would be one of those cards that I thought I had but I didn't. That happens a lot and that's also why I always check before I purchase, well, most of the time.

This one came from my LCS but it came out of a seriel numbered box that we purchased from them but I still got it free from sorting his other boxes.

These 3 cards give my Aparicio to 128 cards. I remembered when I first started that collection, I really didn't think it would ever get that big. It helps he has a bunch of 90's and early 2000's cards.

This is the only Billy Williams I added, but it was also free from sorting for my LCS. I've seen the '52 sets before but I never seen them in the Chrome versions but there were a few in the cards I sorted. Then I logged it in and realized it's from 2021 so it doesn't surprise me that I hadn't seen them yet.

This card gives me 116 cards so not too far from the Aparicio collection.

These both come from the LCS as well. I've been doing a lot of sorting. I actually don't get very many from the LCS sorts. For the most part, I usually only keep 10 or 12 cards of sorts. Although I walked in on Tuesday of this week and he set aside a card for me and just gave it to me when I came in, for free. The second card also goes to my Schmidt collection. It also came from the serial numbered box.

These 2 of Tom Terrific give me 554 card of him.

I got to add to 4 of my 6 Tier 1 collections with all the sorting I've been doing so it's definitely worth it.

Tier 1 Card Show Pick Ups

The Sox looked better last night. Mr. MVP had the first grand slam of the season and one of our rookies went 5-5 and it wasn't even one of the big names. Yermin Mercedes, who's a 28 year old rookie who bounced around for years finally got a chance to start and he made the best of it. It was pretty awesome to see. I'm a little worried about Moncada though as he had an 0fer with 5 strikeouts. They just started tonights game so we'll see if they can get above .500.

Today's post isn't the new guys though, more old schoolers. These are all Tier 1 Collections and we're all picked up at the card show I went to a couple of weekends ago.

I thought this was a great find, it's a 1981 MSA Mini Disc. I only paid $.50 for it so regardless of what it was, an oddball for $.50 is a great find. Apparently my scan cropped it, it is a full circle in real life.

This Tom Seaver/Nolan Ryan rookie was also $.50. Okay, so it's not real, but a promo but for half a buck, I still picked it up. It must be around some though because it is on TCDB. Here's the back.

Lastly for the Seavers, this was a postcard but it was only a buck. I like that it shows him with the 3 teams he's most know for. This wasn't on TCDB, but like I said, it's a postcard.

These cards give me 511 of Tom Terrific.

I mentioned in my last post that I had another 1971 card but it was a PC, here it is. There were 2 different leaders cards with Billy Williams but I had the other one so I gave it to Fred. Technically, this is also a Johnny Bench collection card so you may see it again. This is my 104th card of Billy. I'm in 2nd place on TCDB but a long ways away from fellow blogger Wrigley Wax (I assume it's the same guy anyways).

This was my favorite find of the card show. It was also $.50, I assume because it's a little beat up but I don't care. I have a bunch of his playing days cards but I didn't have this one yet. This makes 113 cards of Little Louie.

Sox are down 1 at the start of the 4th. We've got the talent to come back, let's hope they do.

Lotta Luis

I've been hitting Sportlots for Player Collections and by hitting it, I've been picking up a lot. I started with my Tier 1 collections. First off, I generally spend a little over $5/week. I start with the oldest of the player and click on every card under $.50, including shipping, that I don't have. I go until I reach $5 and than finish off the year that I'm on, just so I know where to start next week. I started this a couple of months ago, and I'm still not through my Tier 1 cards but I am getting a ton of cards for my PC's.

We'll start off with the Non-White Sox portion. You probably recognize the Upper Deck 70's card but the one on the right was new to me. TCDB has it listed as a 1991 Crown/Coca-Cola Baltimore Orioles. It appears to be an All-Time Orioles team set and it must be All-Time because it's a 501 card team set.

Don't worry, I got plenty of him with the Sox as well. Other than that 1993 Action Packed on the bottom right, everything is early 2000's. You gotta like that photo on the action packed but I've seen it in a number of places so it's losing its luster. 

I also picked up a couple of horizontal Archives before Archives is what it is these days. I know I have the original of the 1960 on the bottom but I don't think I have the top one.

These 11 cards give me 112 of Lil' Luis. I did make it all the way through his cards but I don't know if I've received them all yet so you may see more at a later post. I do enjoy doing the Sportlots the way I've been doing it with the PC's. One I get through my PC's, I'll have to go back through it and move my budget up some and do it again.

Milestone Tuesday

Before I get to today's post, what's up with Bloggers comments spam detector. I've had the same spam message posted on a couple blog posts every day for the last week. I mark them all spam so you think blogger could figure this out but apparently not. I hate having to have captcha or whatever they are doing now to leave comments but if this keeps up, I might have to. I haven't had it on for years and I will get the occasional one but this every day, same message is a little ridiculous. Get your shit together, blogger.

On to today's post. I went to Sportlots at one point last month and picked up a few players that I was close to milestone spots on my counts for the player. This player would be one of them but it's not just 3 cards, these probably aren't rare but they certainly don't get seen that often, at least by me so I was happy to pick them up.

Ok, 2 out of 3 I wasn't familiar with. I know the Sports Illustrated one at the bottom. I do love the cover series in that set. I think they should make a set with all the SI covers (at least baseball), that would be cool. Baseball Digest as well, lots of memories with those back in the day. The one of the left is marked on TCDB as a 1990 Interpretive Marketing Baseball Wit. Definitely never heard of those. The one on the right is a Topps Nestle Dream Team. Those are some cool and unusual cards. I picked up the oddballs for $.18/each and the Fleer SI card for $.50.

Oh yeah, that milestone I reached with these 3 cards was 100 cards in the Aparicio Collection.

Sox shortstops, young and old

Today's post are a couple of shortstops, both player collections, both White Sox players. One is playing now, the other in the 60's.

I got this Tim Anderson from my cousin.

I picked these 2 up at Sportlots. The Opening Day was $.18 while the Heritage was $.49.

These 3 cards of Timmie put that new player collection at 44 cards.

This 2004 Fleer Greats of Aparicio came from my cousin as well. I really thought I had it but apparently not. Guess that's why we all keep records.

This one I picked up at Sportlots for a quarter. If I was a set collector, I would probably go for these Decade's Best, I've mentioned before that I really like them. I like that it's the best of the best, not picked by popularity or at least that's what I believe how it's done.

These 2 cards of Aparicio put that collection at 97 cards, and 2 more closer to the century mark.

Little Saturday

I planned on posting yesterday but I was way to sleepy at the end of the day. I don't sleep much during the week and then make up for it on the weekends.

Today, we get another Tier 1 player who was a White Sox player and played during the vintage years of my vintage collection so we could get multiple collections here.

Well we did hit the White Sox collection along with the Aparicio collection. We got vintage look a-likes but no vintage. I do have most of his base cards from his playing days but not all so I may try to get some of those, if I remember. These 4 make 95 of Aparicio. I know that top card has been used a few times with his cards. I'm pretty sure a Shoebox Legends set used the same and I think another Topps reprint used it as well.

Sportlots - Tier 1 PC's - Aparicio

Another day, another Tier 1 PC post.

I'm down to 4 posts left of my January shipment from Sportlots. 3 after today. Today, our player collection cards are also White Sox collection cards, well, 2 of them are.

3 more Little Luis cards to add to the Aparicio collection. These 3 (and the ones I found not logged yet but already put away) put this collection at 91 cards. I might have to search out more cards to get to that century mark.

A Penny for your Aparicio

Back with another card. I was originally outbid on this, which I expected but then I was added back as the high bidder and ended up winning it. At the cost I won it, I'm not sure how it happened but I'll take it.

This is a 1981 TCMA, I thought I had it before I bid so I checked and apparently there was 2 variations of this card, I had the other one. Now I have both. This is my 83rd card of Aparicio and only the 1st I've picked up this year. How much money did this card set me back, you ask? $.01/shipped. Yep, a penny.

Playing catch-up

I didn't disappear this time, I swear. I didn't get any cards on Thursday and if you have followed this blog for awhile then you know that the family goes camping on Father's Day weekend so Friday after work we took off and didn't come back until Monday. So I have lots of days and lots of cards to make up so this will be a picture heavy post. I'll keep the pics smaller as to not suck up all your time waiting on them to load.

I don't know what days everything came in so I'm just going to post everything I got from Friday thru Monday. If you remember last week, I had said something about all the vintage cards I had bidded on, well they started showing up this week.

Like I said, I got lots for the vintage collection. I did manage a few player collections pick-ups as well.

I got a couple of more Jordan's and I actually ran across another Chris Getz.

That was everything I received while I was gone, but I hadn't posted a couple of days since then, so here's what I got on Tuesday and today.

Again, lots of Vintage and yep, a few more for the player collections.

Both 2005 UD Classics from the same seller, both Hall of Famers, but wait, there's 1 more.

I can't believe I got an Aparicio game used bat for only $3.82/shipped. That's a great way to finish a catch-up post from the weekend.

Everything should all be back to normal tomorrow now that these 63 cards are out of the way, now I just have to get caught up on the other blogs.
