Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Happy Thanksgiving

 Happy Thanksgiving all!

I figured I'd pop out a post real quick while I'm killing time before going to my mom's for lunch and my sister-in-laws for dinner. I just finished watching the Michigan basketball game from yesterday. It went better than their last one but I'm still not sure how good they are going to be.

Today's post, however, doesn't have anything to do with Michigan which is rare these days.

Again, you know the story behind the 582 Montgomery's that I picked up at my LCS.

These 5 however, came from Sportlots, all with the Nationals. I don't think it really even looks like him, he looks so young.

These 6 cards give me 169 cards of Lucas which keeps me in 1st place on TCDB by 30 cards.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Lucas is Aces

Just a quick post because I'm sleepy. Some Friday night party animal I am. Looking forward to watching Michigan play tomorrow. Maybe even watch the ND/Ohio game. Before that happens though, I've got to get some sleep.

So we'll just get into today's post.

I picked this Lucas up at my LCS awhile back. It was in their quarter box so I'm definitely not passing that up.

Fred brought me these 3 card at 3 different times which is why they are all scanned seperately. He's brought a few of those Big League which was nice because I had none.

Sluggo also hooked me up with this Green version of the Mosaic Aces insert. It's a pretty busy card but it is shiny.

These 5 cards give me 163 cards of Giolito which puts me at #1 on TCDB.

Losing the window

Win 2 of 3 against the Blue Jays (a good team) and then lose 3 straight against the Orioles (a bad team). I feel like the White Sox are just wasting their "window" with this really talented team. I know injuries are a part of it but they are still fielding a decent team with the injuries. I'm over our manager too, not that I was ever really a supporter. I'm hoping they fire him and that sparks the Sox that I know they can be.

Today's post is one of our studs who is struggling as of late. I'm not too worried, I think he'll figure it out being as horrible as he was when we got him and the way he turned it around. I just hope it's before we're completely out of a chance at anything.

I got this out of the dime box at my LCS which means I basically got it for free because they usually get tossed in with my cousins bigger purchases.

Fred brought me this Optic of Lucas that I didn't have.

I picked up this green parallel of the Aces inserts from Mosaic at my cousin's, he received it in a shipment of cards that he bought from a guy in NC.

These 3 give me 161 cards of Giolito.

Please come back

I guess it's fitting that this guy pop up on the random as he definitely need him to stop the bleeding. We just got swept by Cleveland and we're going into Minnesota this weekend. This guy has been out so far for the year but he's saying that he's going to pitch on Sunday but I haven't seen anything official. Oh yeah, to go along with all of our other injuries, Robert left with a groin injury today too. We apparently don't do well on short spring training when it comes to injuries.

I picked this up in the dime box at my LCS. It's a gold minted insert from Topps Fire. I'd say a pretty good pick up for a dime.

Fred brought me this 2022 at work. All my 2022 cards so far have come from Fred or Sluggo which I can't complain about since I don't pay for either.

These 2 cards give me 158 of Lucas Giolito. Hopefully he comes back this weekend and hopefully he's already in mid-season form because we may need it.

One for the road

Just a quick post tonight. I got up for work at 4 and had my mom's birthday party when I finished there so I'm beat and heading to bed soon. You can tell my age, I'm partying up on a Saturday night by crashing early.

Luckily the random gave me a 1 card post.

Dennis sent me this yellow Giolito in his Christmas package. I already have the base and the Holo Pink so this is my 3rd of this card out of probably 50 variations, I didn't count but we know how they do.

This is my 156th card of Lucas.

Sox Sunday

Another weekend has flown by with no football. I'm not a huge fan of watching NFL (or NBA) so I'll be waiting a week or so before I can watch some again. I have been catching up with the Baseball Seasons on MLB Network. Those have been pretty great! I've gone through most of the 60's, we'll see if they keep playing them up into the 70's next week.

Speaking of baseball, how about a baseball post for today.

I picked up the top 2 cards at the Plymouth card show a couple of weekends ago and the bottom card came from Sluggo. The top 2 are green parallels. Those 3 cards put my TA collection at 142 cards.

Same thing as above, first card from the Plymouth card show, second card from Sluggo. The left one again, is a green parallel. Both of the above A&G's came from packs that Sluggo and I ripped one weekend because we got bored. These 2 give me 155 cards of Gio.

The top Kopech, the Orange Donut, came from the LCS while the bottom card came from the Plymouth card show. I only paid a buck at the LCS and I don't normally drop too much on a relic card but a triple relic for $4, I couldn't pass up. These 2 cards put the Kopech Collection at 75 cards.

All the cards in the top scan came from Plymouth, the bottom, again, from packs at Sluggos. These 6 put that collection at 48 cards. That's a lot further than I though it would be at the beginning of the year, considering his prices.

You'll notice that all the cards from Plymouth on this post were parallels or inserts. They all came from the guy selling right next to us but the main reason I grabbed them was because I didn't feel like checking my lists so I went with parallels to keep from getting dupes. It worked for the most part, I did end up with a dupe color parallel of Eloy.

Pre-games post

A quick one and an early one today. Michigan is on at noon and I'm supposed to go to the Notre Dame/North Carolina game tonight so if I don't get it out this morning, I know I won't tonight.

Fred brought me this A&G Chrome at work. I think at the time, it was my first Chrome A&G. I like them!

I picked up this shiny Giolito in a dime box at my LCS. Definitely a good purchase for a dime.

I got both of these from Sluggo, way back in June. He had a ton of Heritage that I went through.

He also let me take these, a relic and an auto. Love the auto with the black border. It is my 1st relic but my 3rd autograph.

These 6 cards give me 153 cards of Lucas.

1 of 5 studs this year

I've been sleepy this week so I've been slacking but I'm here now. For now!

Today's post is one of our starters who when it comes down to it, is the main reason we are still in 1st place. Our offense is up and down but that has a lot to do with keeping healthy players in the lineup, but our pitching staff has been great.

There's going to be a lot of cards with not much commentary because I'm getting ready to head off to bed.

As you should know, I picked up earlier cards of his in a previous post. Here, we'll start with 1 card from 2017.

It's a good thing I don't pay much for these cards since they all look the same. These are all the 2018's of Lucas.

More of the same with the 2019 but at least there's some Panini/Donruss in this mix. I do like the Carolina Blue parallel, maybe just because I don't see those often.

2020 comes with horizontals and a whole Topps section with no parallels of the same cards.

I even got some 2021's. The purple parallel has, I assume, a nickname making it a double parallel (is that a thing?) I didn't even know that was his nickname. It's nice to see some Sox on the leaders cards. Lucas wasn't the only one that year.

Sox Starter(s)

I went over to my aunt's house to help him start to organize his boxes and boxes and boxes of cards. Spent a couple of hours sorting. I see a lot of new White Sox cards coming in my future from him. We got through 4 5000 count boxes before I headed home. Only 7 more to go and that's just the baseball.

Today's players are a couple of White Sox pitchers, a starter and a reliever (for now). Both are young studs on the staff.

I got this from Fred at work. I probably should have waited until this weekend to post because he just handed me another 20 or 30 cards that I need to add to my collections. I don't know about all of them but I know I saw some A&G Chrome and I know I don't have those. He sent this Giolito along with a bunch of these Heritage that I didn't have.

I also grabbed a bunch of Lucas from Sportlots. Everything up there are parallels or inserts other than the Gallery and the Stadium Club. The Chrome in the middle is a refractor.

The nice thing about how I'm purchasing on Sportlots, I'm picking up a lot of cards that I probably wouldn't have ran into. Like all these cards of Lucas with the Nationals.

These 15 cards put me over the century mark for Lucas cards at 104.

Our even younger stud is Kopech. He's been delegated to long relief in the bullpen until we need him in the rotation which is pretty set at the moment. He's had Tommy John surgery and missed 2019 and opted out of 2020 which is the main reason he has been put in the bullpen to ease him back in but he has been pretty dominant and I think if our rotation wasn't as good as it was, he'd probably already be back in it.

Like Giolito, I've been picking up Kopech cards with the Red Sox that I otherwise, would have never come across.

These 12 cards give me 60 of Kopech.

All of those Sportlots pick-ups were under $.50 with about half of them at $.18.

Moving on up

I watched Carlos Rodon's near perfect game when I got home from work today. He still got a no hitter after hitting a guy in the toe with 1 out in the 9th. It was good to see as he has struggled quite a bit in the last couple of years. We even released him before the season but then picked him back up cheaper. He's definitely been proving himself this year, he has been one of our more steady pitchers and that says a lot with our staff.

Today's random gave us the White Sox last no-hitter pitcher.

I didn't have much of Giolito pre-White Sox so I grabbed a bunch. These are 2015 Bowman products. As you can tell, 3 different parallels of the Platinum.

Some more Bowman, shiny and tiny, err, I mean mini. These are from 2014 though.

More Bowman from 2014. I do like the background of the die cut.

Yeah, something other than Bowman. Granted, it's a minor league or college I guess with the uniform.

Yeah, some more Bowman. That was a sarcastic sentence. We've moved up to 2015 now.

A couple of non-Bowman for 2015. A non-licensed Panini and a real minor league uniform.

2016, *cough, Bowman.

You'll never guess, 2017 Bowman. Those Bowman Best cards are pretty cool, I like the big team logo in the background.

I made sure to put the Mirror Image with Giolito on top. Nobody's heard of the Strasburg guy anyways.

I picked this up filling in to 4 cards from a seller as I said I do in the previous post.

All of the above cards came from my latest Sportlots package.

This was another card from Chris at Nachos Grande breakers club. That's where most of my 2021 cards have come from so far.

These 31 cards give me a grand total of 88 cards of Lucas and moves me up to 3rd place on TCDB. The #1 spot isn't really far away and I have more of Giolito coming so we'll see if we can't take it.
