Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

South Bend show pickups

As per my usual lately, I'm a week behind. It always seems like the days I have birthday posts to do is when I feel like doing a blog post and the days I don't, I don't. I just need to get in the habit of typing it out when I'm in the mood and then just waiting to post it until I don't have a birthday post.

We set up at the Plymouth show yesterday and had a very good show. It was busy all day long. I picked up a few things but like, I said, I'm a week behind so this is stuff that I got at the South Bend show last weekend.

Fred from work came to the show and picked me up a few things while he shopped the other tables. I needed both of these for the Sox collection. I wasn't sure about the Lillibridge because I knew I had a few of those gold sparkle from 2012 but I didn't have his.

He also grabbed these 2 cards for me. The Aidan is from this years Donruss set (which I just sorted on Friday) and the Mazi is from the Prizm draft. It is the Silver parallel. The Hutch gives me 46 of him (already 14 just this year) and my 3rd of Mazi.

There is a kid (the one who pulled the Ohtani autograph out of a Mega we sold him, if you remember that story). He usually comes over and gets bored and will buy a blaster. At the end of the show he will sometime buy a bunch of stuff that he breaks on his Whatnot channel but he bought some of the new Stadium Club. Being as he usually sells us the cards he doesn't want, he just came over and gave us a stack that he didn't feel like carrying home. I went through and found 4 for myself.

2 Sox PC's to start with. I like Vaughn shot although I'm glad there isn't a catcher there tagging him out with that foot way above home plate. It's my 98th card of Vaughn. Suprisingly, Cease is still with us, I don't expect that to last all the way through the season but he's still there now. This card of Dylan gives me 102 of him.

Jumping over to the Tier 3 PC, I picked up this card of Ripken. It's definitely a unique photo, I don't remember why he was riding on the car. I would assume retirement or last day or something. I know when he broke the streak he walked all the way around the stadium, I remember watching that game. This card gives me 982 of Cal who will probably be my 1st player collection with over 1000 cards this year.

I also got this Larkin card. I like seeing the dogs but not a fan of this photo for a baseball card. Maybe it's just me. This Barry gives me 753 of him.

Kevin also bought a 4 row box of commons and I just glanced through some of that. There was a bunch of White Sox together and I found all of these.

These are all the high number White Sox cards which completes the Heritage team set, minus the short prints of course.

Some kids were doing a trade up challenge and Kevin will usually trade with them when all they are wanting is cheaper stuff. The kid offered a few cards for a $10 card and this was included, which I grabbed for myself.

This Abreu relic is my 15th relic of him, and my 281st card of Jose.

Final cost for all of the cards in this post - $0. I spent nothing, now you know why I like working the shows and doing the sorting. Next post will be more sorting before I get to the stuff that I picked up yesterday. I actually paid for some of that.

Sorting packs

Today's my last day before going back to work. I was supposed to go back on Thursday but there were some issues with the tanks sitting for 2 weeks so I'm going back in tomorrow to get everything set up for 3rd to come in tomorrow night. It probably won't be a full day but I'll take the hours. Since it's my last day off, I figured I should get out a post since it's been a bit. The last week of the year is always heavy with birthday posts and yesterday I just chilled and waited to watch Michigan beat Alabama.

I sorted some cards for my LCS last weekend, there were a couple of bags of opened packs and a box of 2023 A&G, the nice thing was there was all 3 sports. Here's what I got.

As per the usual, I'll start with the White Sox. A couple more Frank Thomas (1,026) and a Jose Abreu (278) and Tim Anderson (235) of whom I have a bunch of. I also got a Romy Gonzalez (13) and a Gavin Sheets (43) who I like to get cards of. I'm hoping to see more of him in the future. These all came from packs.

Next up is some Type 3 collections.

I got these 2 inserts of Yaz. One shiny, one not so much. These 2 give me a step closer to 200 at 193 cards.

I also got these 2 cards of Steve Carlton, one insert and one base. I was actually surprised I needed some of the base A&G because I've sorted quite a bit of it before. The inserts didn't surprise me. These 2 give me 231 cards of the lefty.

Next up is Tier 2 Michigan PC cards.

There were a couple packs of NBA Hoops but this was the only one that I needed. It's my 1st 2023 card of LeVert and my first of him as a Cavalier. This card gives me 59 cards of Caris.

There were also a bunch of packs of Prestige. I added a few of those already last week so I wasn't sure I would get any but I did find these 2. Always love to see Aidan cards, I'm not sure how many we'll get with him being a defensive player but right now they are churning them out. This is my 32nd card of Aidan and my 41st of DPJ. It's also my 1st 2023 of DPJ.

I was really happy to get 3 more cards of Jake Cronenworth. 2 from packs and another base A&G. I was really surprised to get 2 different colors in just a couple of packs. These 3 give me 79 cards of Jake.

Last but not least, I also grabbed 1 card for a Tier 1 PC.

I found this insert of Tom Seaver as well. There really wasn't that many packs so I was surprised to keep as many as I did. This Seaver gives me 580 cards of him.

Lotsa Sox

I've been slacking lately, just haven't been in the mood. Think of it as a mini-vacation. I'm also low on posts because I haven't gotten around to getting new cards ready so I only have a couple of posts left. I've ordered my package from Sportlots but I haven't received confirmation that it's shipped yet. I was really hoping to have it before the weekend since that's when I usually work on cards. I'm only working a few hours tomorrow, I was going to come home and start working on my cards but I guess we're going to Indy in the afternoon so we'll be gone for awhile. Maybe Saturday. Probably no post tomorrow either as we probably won't get home until late.

Today's post is a team collection of a team that has finally got their crap together but it's probably too little too late. Which is frustrating because had they done it a week sooner, they might have a decent chance of making the playoffs. Now we have to win damn near every game, including 4 against Cleveland who haven't been losing either. Although we beat them in a make up game today.

These 4 came from Fred. A couple more Heritage in the mix.

These 13 came from Sluggo. I actually got them awhile ago and barely knew who Romy Gonzalez was but he's been playing and doing really well for the Sox so now that I see that card again, I'm even happier to have an auto of him. There's also another rookie of him up there. Those are my first 2 cards of him.

These 7 cards all came from Dennis at Too Many Verlanders. He surprised me with a package a little while ago (and last week) with these Sox cards. None are base and 2 relics and an autograph. I thought I had the Tracey autograph but I think I had a Carlos Quentin from that set but I got rid of it as it was a Diamondbacks card so it didn't fit in the collection. I should have known I didn't have it because Dennis and I are both on TCDB and check each others lists before we send to each other. We share a bunch of collections so it's easy to find stuff for him. He sent me another package earlier this week that I need to get through yet, hopefully this weekend.

There are a few cards up there who are my first cards of those players. Romy Gonzalez that I mentioned, also Brian Goodwin and a couple of those Bowman's. I did a spreadsheet to see how many White Sox players I have cards of and with those cards in this post, it bumped me up to 950 different players.
