Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Hot Peppers

Today's post is of a guy who was a beast at college. He's still playing but I don't hear his name mentioned to much anymore.

These 11 cards came in my Sportlots package. You might have seen some of these on his birthday post awhile ago. They're all pretty good cards as far as looks. Action shots and some shinyness.

I picked this one up from Sluggo. I definitely like the no borders on this.

This one I picked up at the card show in Shipshewana. I'm surprised I only found one of his considering how many Michigan cards I picked up.

This last shiny card I picked up in Fort Wayne at the card show. It was either $1 or $2. I'm too lazy to go look.

These 14 cards give me 27 cards of Jabrill. He was probably one of the most exciting players to watch in college, so much talent.

Monday, Monday

I brought home some more cards from Fred (guy at work). He's gradually going through cards he has and he brings me his Sox and Michigan cards. I brought home 10 or so cards but I only needed 3 of them. 5 or 6 of them were 2001 Topps and I only need a few more to complete the set. 3 of them were Michigan cards but I actually had all 3 (so did you Dennis, sorry!)

Speaking of Michigan, how about that game last night. Tom Brady is one, if not the best, QB ever, even at 43 years old. I'm less than 5 years older than he is and I struggle to get out of bed. He's crazy ridiculous.

Also speaking of Michigan. Here's today's card.

Dennis added a card to this defensive phenom, who had a pretty good career on the other side of the ball at Michigan as well. This is my lucky number 13th card of Peppers. I haven't heard from him much the last few years but I also don't watch NFL anymore so it's not like I watch anything to hear anything about him either.

Spring Peppers

* I put my January purchases on random for today's post.

I just got back from the Sportlots website, purchasing this weeks cards. For those that don't know, I purchase around $5/week from Sportlots. I don't spend any more than $.50 on each card, usually under $.25 for most. I use the box shipping option and the Friday around a week left in the month, I ship what has showed up there so far so I get it before the beginning of the next month.

We'll start off with these 4 of the former Wolverine. He was a stud at Michigan. I haven't heard that much from the pros but then again, I don't watch the pros either so that doesn't necessarily mean much.

I saved the best for last. It's best because he is in the maize and blue on this card so it goes in the Michigan collection as well.

These 5 cards of Peppers make 12 in his player collection. That makes 8 that I've picked up this year already and 4 in the last 3 years. Using Sportlots is definitely helping out the PC's because I don't just wait to come across something like I did on Ebay.

Spring Training started today for the Sox where they just finished off the Reds, dropping a 4 spot in the 9th for some cushion. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game because I believe it will be on TV and I'm so ready to watch some baseball. Even if most of the players I know will be gone by the 2nd inning.

Sportlots - Tier 2 Michigan Men, part 2

I know it's been pretty boring titles of late, I promise I'll do better with the next shipment. I actually have a couple of cards coming directly to me because I needed them for a set, they were the cheapest on the site and he charged the same to ship to me as he did to Sportlots so I just shipped them here. According to the seller, they should be here Friday but I can't show them until after my next Sportlots shipment because they go with other cards in it.

I finished going through by Konerko cards after work today. I ended up with a stack of about 25 cards to sort. Most of them were dupes so they went to my Sox dupe box for Jeff (if I ever get around to sending them). The rest of them I added onto TCDB and with all of the shuffling of cards, I ended up with 1 less Konerko than I started. Although technically, I had 2 cards that I couldn't find on the TCDB at all.

I believe my next album is Tom Seaver, so that one will take awhile as well as he is my 3rd highest PC.

On to today's cards. As mentioned, these are more collections of Michigan players that I watched play in recent years.

This is the nice thing about using Sportlots now is that I can pick up players that you don't run into often on Ebay. These 3 cards (base, optic and holo) double my Jake Rudock collection up to 6 cards.

I got to add another Chris Wormley. This card gives me 9 but technically 7 different ones as I have dupes of an autograph in there as well. Out of the 9 cards, 5 of them are autographs so it's more rare to get a non hit card of his.

This is another guy that I rarely see. He signed with Miami but only played in 5 games and only caught a few short passes. He's currently in the XFL. This is my 7th card of him and 6 of those are in the Maize and Blue which are always better.

I went for awhile before I was able to start picking up Pepper's cards cheap. He was a stud in college but his popularity has died down (doesn't help playing for Cleveland). These 3 make 7 cards of him now.

I got one more post of Michigan men before I head into my Tier 1 pick-ups from Sportlots.

Finally!

Hey, guess what I finally got done. I finally got the package that Dennis sent me all logged in and finished. It was a pretty awesome package, which if you've received one from Dennis before, than you know, because he always gives great cards. It ended up giving me 77 more cards to my collections. Obviously, I'm not going to show them all but I will hit some highlights.

I just wanted to show this sticker of the logo because, it's a logo and it's a sticker.

These are representing the White Sox Collection cards, I chose the Moncada cards because he's coming into his own and I'm enjoying watching him play.

I used this Breaston card to represent the Michigan collection cards just because I think it's a pretty cool looking card.

These 2 are also part of the Michigan collection but they are also player collections. I appreciated these because I don't have a bunch of either of these players.

Dennis and I also share these 2 player collections so he always hooks me up with a bunch of these players. I just selected a card each to represent here.

I am going to show all the cards of my Tier 1 PC's just because I don't get to add to those collections very often.

I love this Mike Hart because I really like the Topps Magic cards. I think it's the vintage feel plus they are in the collegiate jerseys. This card makes 41 of Mike.

I'm pretty sure there were 4 Seaver's added to the PC, I must have forgotten to scan one. These 3 (and possibly 1 more) give me 356 different cards of his.

I really like seeing these as this is my favorite PC collection. I'm sure Dennis was just happy to get rid of some White Sox cards. These 4 cards make 436 of Konerko which is my top PC number.

If you think that was enough cards, you know Dennis don't play like that.

He also sent this relic of Frazier, I believe this is my 1st and only relic of his. I liked Frazier when he was with us, I wish he would have worked out better.

You know Dennis is going to hook me up with a Michigan auto, the dude has a ton of them. This is my 3rd different auto of Breaston and it wouldn't surprise me if they all came from Dennis.

He hit this player collection with a striped relic of Chris Sale. It's the best kind of Chris Sale because he's with the White Sox instead of the other one.

Last but not least, he sent this Chesson auto, a pink one at that. I haven't hit the double digits with Chesson cards yet but I now have 4 autographs out of 7 cards.

Huge shout out to Dennis, check him out over at Too Many Verlanders. It's pretty good, if you can get past all the Tigers cards. Thanks for the cards, they are greatly appreciated.

Peppered Wednesday

I got one envelope but I think I was supposed to get two. I also got a note thingy from the USPS saying that I had another one but it has $14.95 postage due. What I think happened is they sent the card in a priority envelope but put some stamps on it. The mailman left a note saying if it's in a priority envelope, they have to charge the priority envelope price. Needless to say, I'm marking it return to sender. It pisses me off when I get a postage due and it's $.15 (it's happened multiple times). I suck it up and pay it telling myself it's only 15 cents but it still annoys me. The auction was free shipping, it should be free shipping.

Enough about that though, let's see what I did receive today. I managed to pick up another card of a guy that I've had trouble grabbing on the cheap. This is the 2nd card this year of him, last year I didn't get any and only 1 the year before.

This is only my 3rd card of Jabrill. It was listed as a refractor but unless they are colored or say it on the back, I can't tell. Prizm's are already shiny and I've won cards that were listed as refractors before and they weren't. I don't think the sellers can ever tell either. I picked up this card for $.41/shipped.

How Much?

My cousin, referred to as Sluggo on this blog, contacted me that he had a couple of cards I might want. We decided on $10 for both of them. I know, that's way more than I normally spend but he is my cousin so I don't mind paying a bit more than usual. I checked the bay for previous sold of the cards and I didn't overpay for the cards, just spent more than I normally would.

When he showed me the pic of this card, I was thinking I already had it and was going to say no to the $10 but I looked closer and saw it's #'d to /99 so it was a different version (bowl ticket) than the ones I have. Plus, it's numbered 6 of 99 which is my birth month and my birthday so it's extra special. Not really, but it makes a good story. It's my 4th Autograph out of 6 cards in his collection.

This was the card I really wanted. I didn't have any auto's of Jabrill yet, this is numbered to /35 and he's in the Maize and Blue. What's not to like. This is only my 2nd Peppers card but at least I can say half of his cards are autographs.

The last one of the DeVeon Smith sold on ebay for $4.50 with another $4 shipping so $8.50/shipped. The last one sold of the Peppers went for $9.50 and $3.74 shipping so $13.24/shipped. So you can see that I still don't mind paying $10/shipped for the both of them.

Saturday catch-up

Sadly, I was a slacker again this week so this post is all the cards that I got. It was a good week though, a relic, an auto, even the first card of a player collection.

We'll start with a player collection that I tend to log in a bunch of cards throughout the year. This 1987 Donruss Highlights card of Ripken came to me for $.25/shipped. This is my 349th card of Cal jr.

I picked up this former Wolverine for $.19/shipped. It's my 23rd card of Funchess which is the most by far, of any of the Wolverines that went pro that year.

This would be the new player collection. I've bid on a bunch of Peppers cards but this is the first one that I finally won, and for only $.17/shipped at that.

I picked up this Danks auto for $2.25/shipped. I really need to make a list of my autos and relics, I don't think this is my first of him but I don't have many, I want to say it's my 2nd auto but I'm not positive.

Last but not least, I picked up this Abreu relic. I always like to get cards of him because he is underrated outside of Chicago. Kind of like Konerko was, people don't know anything about him even though he puts up the numbers. I'm good with that though. I grabbed this up for $2.13/shipped.
