Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Oldies but goodies

I guess I'm not going to a card show after all. My cousin's kids wife went into labor today so they are flying to Tennessee in the morning to meet their first grandchild. Now I'm afraid I'm going to end up at a 2 year old's party. Help me!

I've shown some of the 1977's that I've received that were a part of my player collections, you'll get to see the rest in this post. All these cards came from the card show in Mishawaka that we set up at.

I picked this up for a quarter. I just happened to run into it in the quarter box and I needed it so there you go. There really wasn't any vintage in the box so I was surprised to see it. This is my 251st card from the 1982 Topps set.

Here's the rest of that 1977 lot. Look at some of those players along with the PC ones you've seen the last couple of days. One of the sellers there heard that I like vintage so he brought this small stack of 77's that he just picked up and offered it to me for $20. How can I say no to that? It's definitely above my budget but those were some great cards for $20. I'm sure it's hard to see but these cards are in really good shape as well. All those 77's give me 271 cards.

I picked this one up for $.50 from the guy next to us. I went through his boxes since we were chatting most of the show and grabbed some stuff. I know he's a Cubs fan so that's probably why he picked this up. It gives me 105 cards from the 1975 set.

I picked this up in a dollar box. I got it a little cheaper because he gave me a discount because I picked up a bunch of Sox cards from him. This was like the Foster up there, not a lot of vintage in there but I stumbled on this one. Some big names in it as well. This was my 95th card from the 1970 set.

This was in the quarter box as well. I will definitely give up a quarter for any 1967 card. When I initially saw it, I assumed the floating head was Killebrew on the card but it's Jim Kaat. This is my 43rd card for that set.

The oldest card in this post didn't actually come from the show. It came from a collection that we got from Sluggo so this was a freebie for me. This card gives me 38 cards from the 1966 set.

Sluggo - Vintage (1973-1970)

Back to work today, damn it! 2 weeks off makes it really hard to go back but after going back, I'm still here posting so that's a positive. These are the times I tend to stop posting because I get to tired after work.

I will continue on with some more vintage from Sluggo. Today, we'll get through the rest of the 70's.

Sluggo gave me 10 or 12 cards from the 1973 set but I had most of them as that's one of the sets I'm over half way completed. These 2 are pretty good cards regardless, especially for free. I'll always take Munson cards, even if he did play for the Yankees.  These 2 put the set at 457 cards for a 69% completed.

I also got 2 more for the 1972 set. These only give me 64 cards for that set which is good for 8% completed.

These 9 cards, plus the 1 below from the 1971 set definitely helped it along. They put the set at 107 cards and 14% completed.

I separated this one because it also goes to my Tom Seaver collection. This card gave me 370 different cards of Tom Terrific.

Last but not least, these 4 cards from the 1970 set put it at 63 cards and 8.7% completed. Yes, that's a former Wolverine at the end and no, I'm not completed with the vintage posts. Tomorrow will head to the 60's.

Sluggo - Vintage (1985-1978)

I got my Sportslots cards in but I haven't logged them yet but I did get the cards logged in from Sluggo so we'll start there. He gave me a stack of vintage that he didn't need. A lot of Yankees we're in the collection he bought out so don't be surprised by how many are in these posts.

I'll start with this 1985 Topps. I mentioned that I was close to finishing this set once I got my Sportslots package and he asked if I had this one. I didn't, so he gave me one, he said he had 3 or 4 of them and they aren't huge sellers anymore.

He set me up with these 2 cards from the 1980 Topps set. They are my 188th and 189th cards from that set and I reached over a quarter done at 26% completed.

If you didn't recognize the names (I know them) from the last 2, you should know the names of these 2 from 1979 Topps. These 2 cards put that set at 351 cards and 48.3% completed. Almost to the half way mark.

He also gave me these 3 from the 1978 Topps. 1 more Yankee but a couple of different team cards as well. These 3 put that set at 174 cards which is good for 24% complete.

Back with some older vintage soon.

January Pick-Ups - Vintage Collection (1977-1979)

This months pick-ups come from
  1. Dennis at "Too Many Verlanders" and "Too Many Manninghams"
  2. Sluggo (my cousin)
  3. Ebay
  4. Packs (I actually bought some packs)

I've randomed and todays selections are going to the Vintage Collection

1977 Topps
1977 Topps
1977 Topps
1977 Topps
1978 Topps
1978 Topps
1978 Topps
1978 Topps
1979 Topps
That is an awesome array of players to be included to the vintage collection. I realize they are not high dollar cards but look at some of those names.

1977 Topps ($.54)
1977 Topps ($.50)
1978 Topps ($.40)
1978 Topps ($.52)
1978 Topps ($.25)
The above cards put the 1977 Topps set at 63 cards (9.55%), the 1978 Topps set at 92 cards (12.67%) and the 1979 Topps set at 67 cards (9.23%). A long way to go in all 3 sets but it's not like I expected to finish this in the next 10 years or so. That was part of the reason I started this collection, along with I love the cards, it's something I can work on the rest of my life.
