Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

What base?

I supposed I should put up a post. I haven't been on it as I am normally. I've been working a bunch of hours so I've been wore out when I get home. Haven't felt like taking the time to post.

Today's post is another team post but a few more cards than that last one.

Both of these came from Fred. The Abreu is the rainbow foil and the Mercedes is only my 7th. The way he started off his pro career with the Sox, I figured I'd have a ton but after a really good month, he dropped out of sight and isn't even with the Sox anymore.

These 7 cards came from Sluggo. I gave him $5 for all of these and a couple of Michigan PC's. None of them are base cards and you can see the the manu relic. Thick as hell like most of them but this has the Chicago city flag. Sheets played quite a bit for us this past year and did well. I'm hoping he stays on the team which would depend on if we make any signings or not. This is my 11th card of Sheets. The 2 Rodon's give me 64 of him and the 2 Abreu's and the 1 above that give me 184 of him, which is quite a bit for a non PC but only my 2nd highest non PC players.

Dennis did the same thing as Sluggo only earlier players, no base cards and even a couple with serial numbers Here's a rundown of the players numbers - Albert Belle is at 55 cards, Josh Fields is at 22 cards (1st on TCDB, surprised me as well), Alexei Ramirez is at 77 cards (1st on TCDB) and Adam Dunn with 62 cards. You may have noticed I skipped Frank Thomas, well he's at 585 cards. Yep, you guessed it, he's my highest non PC player. Even with that many cards, I just barely cracked the top 25 on TCDB. Good old 90's stars have a crap ton of cards.

Dennis almost always hooks me up with a relic or 2. The other was a player PC (Funchess) and you've already seen it. This is my 92nd card of Dye and my 8th relic of his.

These all came from people as I've been more active on player PC's than my Sox collection. I technically purchased the ones from Sluggo but they came in a lot he purchased and I get first dibs on all the lots.

Lotsa Sox

Even though it's a White Sox post, I'm not talking about the team this year. Beyond frustrated but we are winning at the moment. We'll see if they can hold it.

I've picked up cards for this collection for awhile without getting a post so there's a lot of cards. I'll just bunch them on where I got them.

All of the above were freebies from Sluggo. He got in a lot from his guy and there was an 800 count box of this stuff so I went through it and grabbed what I didn't have. Lots of new Bowman and lots of shiny. Some of the other stuff I picked up awhile ago from him.

These all came from last box of Sportlots. The top pic are all TCMA's (I think) but I don't remember what year. The bottom 2 I think are pretty cool. They are 1979 Fleer Grand Slam stickers.

I picked up all these at my LCS. The top photo were all dime box cards and they were thrown in on the purchase. I picked up the Abreu relic there, I've been eyeballing it for awhile and I finally picked it up. It's numbered to /99. The autographs I wanted to grab some of players that I didn't have. I knew I was going to grab the Scotty Pods when I saw it. I definitely wanted an auto of one our World Series heroes. I didn't have one of Grandal or Mags. I have a bunch of relics of him but this is my first auto.

I picked up these 2 at the card show in Warsaw. I liked Madrigal, wish they wouldn't have gotten rid of him and Sheets is doing pretty well as of late.

These 2 both came from Fred. Leury was great last year, this year, not so much and Burger has some pretty key hits for us this year so I'll definitely take a rookie card of him.

These 2 both came from the dealer at the Fort Wayne show that I bought a bunch of vintage cards for a buck a piece, these included. The top one goes in my Team collection as well and the bottom one also goes to my Schmidt PC. I had the 1975 mini of the bottom card, but not the regular sized one.

I picked up the above 3 at the Shipshewana show but they all came from 3 dealers that I buy from all the time. The top card came from Hollister, the middle (mini) from a guy named Joe that we set up at Mishawaka and Plymouth. The bottom one from Josh who runs the Plymouth show.

These 3 were throw in's with my cousin's cards when we went up to the Stanton Man Cave card shop. I don't actively look for these pocket schedules but I do pick them up when I run into them.

Last but not least, Dennis sent these last 2 scans to me. The Frank Thomas is numbered to /25, love low numbered cards. The Kittle relic is my first of him but I do have an autographed card as well as a 5x7 autographed photo of him. I actually have a bunch of Abreu relics but this might be my first bat card.

Like I said, a lot of Sox for one post.

800 Club

So far so good, the Sox have won every series so far, that's my goal and should be theirs every year. You win 2 out of 3 every series and you're looking at over 100 wins. Obviously you're not going to win every one but that's what a goal is, something for you to strive to achieve. I think that's attainable and should be every teams goal.

I have another Tier 3 player today so again, lots of cards.

1992.

1993.

1994.

1995.

1996.

1997.

1998.

2000.

All of the above are all from Sportlots. I'm not sure why I didn't have any 1999's but there you go.

I also picked up this Donruss Optic insert from the LCS in a dime box. Sometimes I wonder if they don't realize what's in there or not.

Just like yesterday, the last 2 came from dollar boxes ($.79) at the Shipshewana card show. Most of the cards in the dollar box were modern so it was rare to pull older, let alone an oddball.

These 85 cards put the Ripken collection at 804 cards which makes his collection the largerst PC I have and the first one over 800.

5 card Tuesday

I got 2 envelopes today with 5 cards total. 4 of them in 1 envelope which probably won't excite too many of you as they are White Sox collection cards. The last is a player collection.

Let's get to it.

I picked up this Belle card and was surprised it was my 32nd card of his. I didn't realize I had that many.

I grabbed this Bere card and it makes 31 cards of his. I remember him being a young stud at one point but I don't remember him lasting real long.

This is only my 19th card of Baldwin and like Bere, he was a young stud at one point but he lasted awhile longer than Bere did.

Last but not least (as far as the first envelope), I picked up this Gavin Floyd and it's my 34th card of his. I picked up all 4 of the above cards for $.37/shipped/each. They all actually seem like cards I already have, and I may even, if I do they are in the box that I haven't logged yet. It'll probably be awhile before I get to those though.

This is my 3rd of his from Gypsy Queen but the 1st of the base variety, the other 2 are an insert and a parallel. This is also the 119th card of his in the collection and I picked it up for $.33/shipped.

Dennis Weekend, Baseball Edition

Welcome to the 2nd and final post of the cards that Dennis gifted me this past weekend at the Michigan game. Check out yesterdays post for the 1st one. While yesterdays was all Michigan related, it was also all football and basketball. Today, we'll show all the baseball.

We'll start off with the 1 White Sox collection card I got. While it's nice and shiny, as well as numbered, it is Albert Belle. It's still needed though so we'll take it.

I thought I had this when I went to look up since I had 6 different cards of his from this set, but I didn't. This is my 357th different card of Tom Terrific but only my 2nd one picked up this year.

This shiny card is my 447th different one of Konerko. As much as I like seeing Paulie in black, I don't mind his Dodgers or Reds cards as I don't hate those teams either.

Dennis always hooks me up with this player and the next as we both collect them. These 4 cards of Cal make that ever growing collection at 423 different cards.

This would be the other Michigan Man I mentioned in the last post and as you can tell, Dennis hooked me up. He got me base, inserts, shiny, oddball and even a "big" card. These 17 cards put that collection at 185 cards.

A big thank you to Dennis for the cards and for being my date for the game. Be sure to check out "Too Many Verlanders" and "Too Many Manninghams"
