Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Trade with Potch

gavin-floyd-thumb-580x326-305535

Before I get to the trade post (because I know how much all of you like them) I wanted to give a shout out to Gavin Floyd of the White Sox.  If you haven’t heard, check out the article here.  You don’t see too many good stories about today’s athletes.  And yes, I would have given him a shout out even if he played for another team.  If you don’t read the trade post below, be sure to check out the Pujols cartoon at the bottom.

Potch of “Potch Wheeler and the Cardboard Heroes” saw a couple of cards he wanted, I believe out of some update packs and I sent them his way, in exchange, he sent me these.  Potch must have gone through my want lists because he sent me a bunch of Sox I didn’t have.  I’ll just post the new and the old and spare you all the years in between.  Here’s the new.

Big thanks for the Allen & Ginter’s because I don’t buy any packs of these.  Not exactly my favorite set.  I do like the design, I just don’t like all the other non-baseball cards that come with it so I don’t buy the packs.  I really like the Hometown Heroes inserts as well.  And the Aparicio up there as well.  I’ve been getting a lot of his cards and he was one of my favorite vintage Sox players.

He also sent me these 1977 Topps and an 1984.  I always like the vintage.  I’m waiting to see which vintage team set I finish first.  Between all you bloggers, I’ve been slowly filling them up.  I think 1975 is the closest but I still need quite a few of those too.

Thanks for the trade Potch, as always, it’s great trading with you.  And it’s nice to see your original blog name back as well.

I also ran across this cartoon today and had to post it, it is too funny.  Well, maybe not to you Cub fans.

Group Break loot

Sam over at “The Daily Dimwit” had a group break with 2011 Topps Chrome.  I selected the White Sox (shocker!) and was given the Tigers (Damn!) as well.  Here are my Tigers, all are available for trade.

groupbreak04

I didn’t realize I had refractors and base when I scanned these.  I have both of the top 3 so if your looking for the base or the refractor of either one, let me know.  The Victor Martinez Heritage is numbered 100/562.  Now for the Sox, nobody cares about the Tigers anyways.

groupbreak01

I even had duplicates of the Konerko, 1 for the player collection, one for the team collection.  I really like these cards in chrome.

groupbreak03

Both are numbered so I assume that makes them refractors.  Morel is numbered to /1962 and Dunn is numbered to /562.

And yes, the reason we all get in group breaks, I got a hit.

groupbreak02

I really like this card.  Chris Sale has been great in the bullpen and it’s rumored that he will be in the starting rotation in 2012.  Which as much as I hate not seeing him in the bullpen, I’m looking forward to watching him every 5th game.  Thanks Sam, for the great group break.

Trade with Baseball Dad

I had just completed a trade with Baseball Dad from “All Tribe Baseball” a few weeks ago but I had posted a Ted Williams (I think) card that he had wanted so out sprang another trade.  I didn’t have too much else to send him since we had just completed trades but he still sent me a bunch of Sox for my collection.

trade-baseballdad

I didn’t have any of the Donruss Estrelles even though he had sent me a pack with our previous trade.  I really like the Aparicio insert.  And the Quentin update card was the only card I knew that was coming.  I had no updates at this point but have gotten a few from my fellow bloggers.

trade-baseballdad2

He also sent me this sparkly of Konerko.  I love these sparkly’s, I could collect the whole set of them, I like them that much.  But I haven’t decided to collect any sets yet.

When Jack sent me the pack of Estrelles, they come with a paper checklist, of which I always threw out.  If the checklist is a card, I keep it, paper, I throw it away.  He also sent some packs to others and I saw that the paper checklists unfolded to a mini-poster.  Crap!  I bet I had a great poster.  Well, Jack took pity on me, because I’m a moron.  And sent me a checklist, along with this note.

Jack must know me pretty well to include the note, here’s what he sent.

An Ichiro Suzuki.  Sweet!  The only thing I don’t like about Mr. Suzuki is the fact that they only put his first name on all his cards.  It annoys me, I don’t why, it just does.  But I do like the player all the same.  Thanks for taking pity on me Jack.  And thanks for the trade.

Diamond Giveaway

Ordered a bunch of my cards from the Diamond Giveaway site a few weeks ago and they arrived last week.  I mainly ordered them because all the cards I was keeping were Sox cards and I got tired of denying all the trade requests.

diamondgiveaway01

First the player collection cards.  Of course, after I ordered these, the Dravecky’s came in trades.  Oh well.

diamondgiveaway02

I mainly got these because they were vintage Sox, but I selected Bill Melton because he does the pre and post game before Sox games so I actually knew who he was.

diamondgiveaway03

Lots more vintage.  I basically tried to flip whatever vintage I pulled for the same year except a Sox card.  I also got quite a few 90’s and 2000’s cards but figured you all didn’t need to see all those.  Vintage is always better.

diamondgiveaway04

These cards are pretty awesome.  I peeled the plastic off them because I’m keeping them for myself anyways, I want them to look their best.  I’ve read where a lot of you said they look even better in person and you all were right.  I really like these cards.  I was trying to get the other players, Rios, Sale and Quentin (how Konerko didn’t get a card is beyond me) but nobody would flip them for me and out of all the cards I pulled on the site, I only got 1 of these Diamond cut cards so nobody would flip me regular base cards for those.  Justin from “Justin’s World” and I were working on a trade and mentioned he had the Chris Sale card, so he took whatever cards I had left, which I think was 9 and sent me the Sale card.  I’ll scan it and show it when I get it shipped.  I appreciated that Justin.  I appreciate all my fellow trading partners.  My team and player collections have really taken off because of all of you.

Cards from Padrographs

gift-roy2

Rod over at “Padrographs” apparently sends out cards to people just to get rid of them.  I wasn’t even aware of his blog until he contacted me about sending me some.  First off, a shout out to AJ over at “The Lost Collector” for letting Rod know about me.  Now back to Rod.  I received his cards, a nice stack of White Sox, these are just a few that were added to my Sox collection.

gift-roy

Rod, I assume, being a Padres collector hooked me up with my newly started Dave Dravecky collection.  A bunch of cards heading to the player collection.  The 3 ‘85 cards together are a Topps, O-pee-chee and an autographed Topps.  Wow!  Thank you.  All these cards are going to the PC.

Last I heard, Rod was still looking to get rid of a few more teams, so go check out “Padrographs” and see if yours is one of them.  Thanks Rod!
