Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

PWE Love

JayBarkerFan’s Junk” has been PWE Bombing (that’s the term that’s being used) and I have been a recipient of his generosity with a couple of PWE’s.  It took me a little while to figure out who they were from, I even messaged Dennis from “Too Many Verlanders” & “Too Many Manninghams” because I know he’s traded with a bunch of people and still nothing.  I told him that all I knew is he was a Red’s supercollector because he sent me this.

pwe02

See, it says right there, Red’s super collector.  What?  Redus super collector?  Well that makes sense since it’s on a Gary Redus card.  Oh, the JBF makes sense too.  It’s all coming together.  Ok, so I’m a dumb ass, my bad.

pwe03

All 3 of these were new to the White Sox collection.  The Joel Davis is a traded series because I had already completed the team set from 1986, but not the traded.

He even managed to hit the Paul Konerko collection with this beauty.

So big thanks to Wes over at “JayBarkerFan’s Junk” for the PWE Bombs.

2013 Topps Heritage White Sox

As per my new way of getting the latest cards, I purchased my 2013 Topps Heritage team set from Brent of “BrentAndBeccaEbay fame.

brent01

I do like these because, well you know, they look like vintage.

brent02

On top of this team set, it included the SP which I believe was Adam Dunn and Brent even threw in an extra Paul Konerko for the Paul Konerko Collection.

I’m finding this way to get my latest cards to be the cheapest route.  And Brent has been awesome with staying in contact with me about getting extra Konerko’s or inserts.  He was going to give me the Adam Dunn insert card as well but he didn’t end up with any extra, he was actually short on completing all his sets but that’s cool.  He has gone above and beyond as it is.

I was looking at purchasing the Gypsy Queen set from him but I haven’t come across the checklist to browse yet.

PWE love from 2 by 3 Heroes

As have a lot of you, I got a couple of PWE’s from Jeff over at “2 by 3 Heroes”.  He’s been sending me a bunch of them lately and they’ve been full of White Sox cards for my collections.

We’ll start off with this 1985 Topps to add to that team set.

trade-2x3heroes03

A bunch of 1990’s cards.  I really like the original finest cards, not that I don’t like the newer ones either but they were pretty bad ass back in the day.

He even sent this awesome UD X Die Cut of Paul Konerko.  I already had it in my Paul Konerko Collection so this one goes to the White Sox Collection.

He also sent me these awesome 2013’s for the White Sox collection.  I’ve been picking up the 2013 parallel’s on COMC but haven’t shipped them yet so these are the first in my hands.  The bottom 2 Konerko’s replace the ones that I took out of my team set that I bought so the base card on the right completes the team set.

He even sent me this Walmart parallel to go to the Paul Konerko collection.  Which is really starting to get up there in numbers, maybe I should do a post on updating my player collections.

Thanks Jeff, be sure to go to “2 by 3 Heroes” and let him know who you are and what you collect and you may get you some surprise PWE’s in your mailbox soon.

My inheritance

I’ve been busy on my other blog gearing up for the A to Z Challenge as well as entering the latest Dude Write contest and have neglected this blog.  Sorry about that, I do have a few things to post.  I went to my mom’s a couple of weeks ago to replace some pages that my stepfather had his cards in.  We broke out his cards a couple of months ago to look something up (I don’t remember what now) and noticed that about half his pages were the old pages and were all stuck together.  He found the cards when they moved into his house 10 years or so ago and he had them in a box.  At the time, I told him he should put them in pages and he did.  Since Cheri and I were over there replacing his old pages, I thought I’d snap a few pics of some cards that will hopefully be in my collection soon.

These are cards he purchased when he was a kid and collected.  He doesn’t have a lot per say, but he has a pretty big album of baseball and a smaller album of football.  Since I only really care about the baseball, that’s what the pictures are for.

They are in team order so that’s how I will display them here.  They would be a big boost to my vintage collection.

randall01

A couple of 1971 Topps Reggie Jackson’s.

randall02

I don’t think I have any vintage Hank Aaron cards, definitely no base cards so this 1973 Topps would fit in nicely in that set.

randall03

I was always a big fan of lefty Steve Carlton.  I like these 1971 Topps of him.

randall04

A 1972 Topps Bob Gibson.  He didn’t have a lot of 1972 Topps but he had some.

randall05

A photographed the whole page so you could see the 3 Ron Santo’s and the 2 Fergie Jenkins.  I really want his 1973 Topps cards to boost my set.

randall06

2 more 1973 Topps of Roberto Clemente.  I just realized I jumped from the Chicago Cubs to the Pittsburgh Pirates, must not have had much between the teams.

randall07

A 1971 Topps Johnny Bench, very nice.  Speaking of the Cincinnati Reds,

randall08

How about a 1973 Topps Pete Rose?  Definitely want these cards for my collections.

randall10

I actually already have the Luis Aparicio for his player collection but I’m not sure if I’ve filled it for the 1973 Topps set.  Really love the Carlton Fisk and Carl Yastrzemski.  Both players I followed later in their careers when I was old enough to follow baseball.

randall11     randall12

A couple of 1971 Topps and a 1973 Topps of Thurman Munson.  Yeah, he’s a New York Yankees but not everyone can be perfect.

But judging by the few cards I’ve shown you, you can see why I’m glad I’m on his good side.  He says they’ll be mine when he’s gone and while I can’t wait to have them, I don’t have a problem being patient either.

Completed Team Sets–2012 Bowman

This one was completed quickly.  Mainly because it was only 4 freaking cards.

completed-12bowman

It’s a decent looking set even, but only 4 cards annoyed me.  I understand the New York Yankees have a bigger fan base, but give them 12 cards and us 4.  I’d be even more pissed if I was a Houston Astros or San Diego Padres team.  They only had 3 cards total combined.
