Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Waiting for work to Cease

Another Monday, but at least it's the start of a 3 day week. I'm looking forward to having 4 days off. We cancelled Thanksgiving at my mom's because a bunch of my family have Covid now, nobody is serious but they have it, including my 87 year old grandmother. So it'll be 4 days of chilling at the homestead. Maybe I'll get some scanning done. Maybe.

Today is a player collection but not really. I set aside a few current Sox players that I'm considering a player collection on so I have them set aside so if I do decide to, I don't have to dig them all out. He started off hot for us this year but fizzled a bit at the end. Considering he was a rookie, that normally wouldn't concern me except it was a shortened season so would he really get tired?

It'll be a quick post as well as I've got one card since last time I posted them.

This is another card from Chris at Nachos Grande. To be honest, I don't remember if it's a box break card or an extra that he threw in. Either way, I needed it. This gives me 19 cards of Dylan Cease.

Random Cards #76

Michigan finally won, barely, and against a team they normally spank. Rutgers is definitely improved, or they just looked really good against us because we aren't that good. A win is a win and this year, we'll take any we can get.

I got on Sportlots and purchased more PC cards, the guy I'm buying at the moment has cards in the early 2000's where they had a bunch of sets so once again, I only got through 1 year, 2003, before reaching my budget total. I'm sure I'll pick up again next week. Instead of continuing trying to complete White Sox collections, I used that portion of the budget this week to purchase more cards towards a Vintage collection completion. I doubled my budget on this purchase but I figured I've been working plenty of OT so I could afford it.

I also got some more cards logged and scanned and added to the post lists that I got from Collecting Cutch. I won his Save Second Base contest so I'll show that card along with the extra Sox he sent. He even hit a couple player collections.

I decided to go with a random post today. I usually do them on Sundays and it's been a couple of weeks. I guess I really like the thrill of random since I use it every day to do my posts as well.

When I do these posts, I random the spreadsheet where I have them all listed and then go to TCDB and get a pic of the card because I don't keep any of my personal scans. If I do random something that has a serial number on the front or such that makes my pic unique than I will scan the card but that doesn't happen often. 2 things I realized with doing the random relic and autograph is that I need to separate them on my spreadsheets and the other would be I need to scan and get them up on TCDB so I can use the photos because there really isn't as many up there as I like. I did all my PC cards at one point, actually, now that I think about it, I may not have finished. Sounds like a project for the 4 day weekend coming up, I've got to get to scanning and adding photos to TCDB, if only for these posts.

These posts also remind me how slow this new blogger is. I couldn't wait to get done with this post just because it was annoying the crap out of me.

Not Lil Luis but Big Luis

Didn't get much time to post this week, I ended up with 60 hours at work which is a lot for my old, fat ass. Our whole 2nd shift was gone because of Covid so we had to stay over to cover half and 3rd came in and covered the other half. Lots of overtime pay going out but so far so good, still no Covid.

You might have heard about this guy, I even tweeted about him recently and I hardly ever tweet.

So as you can guess, there won't be a ton of cards in this post as they are harder to come by since I don't like to spend a lot of money.

I got this 2020 Stadium Club in the Nachos Grande box break. I don't really count on getting relics or autos when I join a box break so this was the card that I was hoping for.

Jeff over at 2x3 Heroes had emailed me and said he picked up a dupe of this card so he dropped it in an envelope (not from the big box he sent) and sent it to me. This card completed my flagship team set. Minus the 8, yes 8, variation cards and all of those are SP including one of Robert. He also has 3 SSP's. That just ridiculous.

These 2 cards bump up his collection to 12 cards. These are also the only 2020 cards I have of Robert.

My name is Lucas

Just a quick post before I head to bed. I don't know where that title came from. I heard Lucas and thought of the song Luka, I couldn't tell you the last time I heard it.

There were some awards handed out recently and the Sox did fairly well. That's nice to hear with the ongoing LaRussa debacle. This guy had a good year and the Cy Young voters took notice. He was one of 2 Sox players in the top 10 voting. He took #7, Dallas Keuchel was at #5.

These 2 cards came from 2x3 Heroes. Topps likes that front facing view of Lucas as you'll see in the following cards as well.

This one came from a Nachos Grande group break. This was the only insert I got but I received the card I wanted which you'll see in a later post.

I know, I know, it's not even Thanksgiving yet and I got Christmas stuff up already. This holiday card came from my 2019 Sox purchases on Sportslots

This one also came from Sportlots but obviously not the 2019 purchases. Do you see what I mean about the front facing shots, they are all different shots but from the same angle. I'm not sure how much I like that bat in this card, I mean, I assume it's a bat because it looks a little long but what do I know.

These 5 cards put me at the half century mark for Giolito or 50 cards for the time impaired people.

Real Vintage

Since I finally have a day off work, I can hit another post, back to back. Covid is running rampant at work so those of us that are still there are turning in lots of hours to cover all those missing and since I'm one of those, for now, I've been working 6 days at 10 hours a day. I'm fat and old so those hours wear my ass down so those people need to start coming back. My department has had 3 positives in the last week so I'm guessing it may be a limited amount of time before I get it. Especially since my department likes to use my office for their breaks because they shut down the breakroom (and I have a fridge and microwave.) I take what precautions I can and for the most part, I work by myself, nowhere around anyone but since my department has been hit, including my boss, it seems to getting closer and closer.

I just left Sportlots where I made this weeks purchases, and bought some 2018 White Sox stuff and continued going through my Tier 1 players. The player I'm on has a ton of cards and I only got through 2002 because there were so many sets that year. So next week, I'll hit the rest of 2018, continue with the player I'm on, (hopefully get more than 1 year this time) and since I've got overtime coming in, I may try to get some stuff to complete my next set in the vintage collection.

I mean, who need Christmas presents from me when I can buy cards for myself.

Today, you get more White Sox stuff but it's vintage so it may actually interest more of you. I named the post Real Vintage because I always get comments when I label my early to mid 80's as Vintage but I'm not saying they are vintage but rather, they are a part of my Vintage Collection.

We'll start off with some 1970's. The 1971 Topps of Tom Egan (2 cards) leaves me with only 8 more for that team set which I think is pretty good since there are 32 cards in the set and it is 49 years old. This card goes to my Vintage collection as well.

The Pat Kelly (9 cards) is from the 1974 Kellogg's set. It's actually my first of that team set of 4 so I got more that I need to pick up.

These 3 cards are all from the 1960's and belong in the Vintage collection as well as the White Sox collection.

The 1968 on the right with Jerry McNertney (2 cards) gives me 15 cards for that team set, which puts me right at half. You have to love that the vintage cards had more players featured than most sets these days. These days they'll have the same amount of cards as the past but there will be a few cards of vintage players, more than a few alternate versions, and blah blah blah.

The 1965 card at the bottom with Bruce Howard (2 cards) and Marve Staehle (2 cards) gives me 13 for that team set but again, that's under half. It's my 2nd card of both players but both only have 20 and 23 total on TCDB. I wonder if these guys played today and had the same success, how many cards they would have, probably 500 or so. 400 of those would be Bowman for the last few years before they even made the majors.

The 1964 of Fritz Ackley (1st card) and Don Buford (3 cards) gives me 11 cards for that team set but that's not even half of the team so still aways to go. As I stated, it's the first card of Ackley but according to TCDB, he only has 9 and 4 of those are reprints. I would like to have his 1965, but that's because he shares it with a rookie lefty, Steve Carlton.

This card of Nellie Fox is from 1961 Post cereal. It's only my 2nd card from that team set and there is a ton of them. I didn't realize how big these Post sets used to be. I remember the ones from the 80's and 90's that generally had 1 player per team. This is my 12th card of Fox but only my 4th from his playing days.

I also got this 1969 Fleer Cloth patch. It would have been cool if it still had the top part but it's still a pretty awesome card/patch/whatever. I'm a fan of the Sticker sets that Fleer put in their 80's sets so it's even better to get a true vintage one.

Last but definitely not least, I also was sent this Connie Johnson from 1956. This is only my 1st card of Johnson but he only has 16. This is also only my 2nd of the 1956 team set but I only have 5 for the whole set so I can't complain.

All of these cards came in that huge package from Jeff at 2x3 Heroes. I told you he sent me some awesome stuff. There's a lot more to come.
