Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Close, but not quite there

I checked on my Sportlots package and I'm pretty sure I'm not getting it until the 28th but I still have 6 more posts after today which means I won't have to stop blogging and I can finish everything from the last couple of months.

As you know, I occasionally take a set that I'm close to finishing and throw some money at the cards and try to get it complete. I've actually completed the 1985 Fleer & Topps set, as well as the 1987 Topps set doing this. I've completed all 3 of those sets since August and those are the 1st 3 that I've completed since starting collecting again.

Today is one of those posts and one of the next sets I'm trying to complete.

As you can see, I bought quite a bit of the 1981 Topps set. The bad thing about completing sets this way is that I started with the set I was closest to completing, than the 2nd closest and so on. So now that I'm working on my 4th set, the more cards that I need.

I picked up all of these on Card Barrel, 114 cards for $23.87 including shipping which equals out to just under $.21/each. It's not completed yet as they didn't have everything that I wanted or I could get them cheaper on Sportlots so it'll hopefully be completed on the 28th when I get my Sportlots package. As it stands right now, I have 694 of the 726 cards in the set.

Winna Winna

You got to see a rare occurrence the other day when I showed cards from a blogger other than Jeff or Dennis, today you'll get another. Nothing against bloggers not sending me cards, it's just I have very little to trade with so when people ask to trade, I tell them straight up, I just don't have anything to trade with. Some will send cards anyways knowing they won't get much, if anything, back. Brian, however, held a contest that I won on random and he threw in some extra's for me.

He sent over these 3 Sox cards along with a couple of PC players that have already been shown. Those 2 Chris Sale's give me 149 cards of him. I mentioned before when I showed another Sega card he sent me that I had never had any of those before he sent them. I only have 9 cards of Melky but he wasn't with us for very long. I just looked, he was with us 2 years, it didn't seem that long.

So what card did I win in the Save Second Base contest?

That, my friends, is a pretty cool card. It doesn't technically go into my collections but I don't care, it does now. Did you notice the serial #?

For those of you asking, I do have a few cards that I keep that aren't part of any collections but I like them. This is by far the better of any of those cards, but I do have some. This is my 6th card of Lou, but the others all go into collections. 4 from the Vintage collection, 1 card that he shares with Carl Yastrzemski and this card.

Thanks for that cool card Brian, and thanks for all the bonus cards that went to my collections. Check out Collecting Cutch.

Cubs cards? Here?

Finally, the random gave me another Tier 1 collection that I went through Sportlots to add. Alas, it's one of the players that I lost my scans on so it's all single card photos from TCDB.

As you can see, I got quite a few of Billy Williams, all of these were under $.50, most were under $.20. I know it looks like there are dupes up there of the Play Ball, but they are red back and green backs. These 25 cards put my Billy Williams collection over the century mark with 103 cards.

Gonna put out one of these because it's Sunday and that's the day I usually do these, just not every Sunday. I may put out another post later today. I may not.

Just a reminder that all these photos come from TCDB (except the random Relic) as I don't keep scans of my cards anymore. The Magglio I grabbed from my blog because there wasn't one on TCDB. I am currently working on getting everything I have scanned on there but haven't made it to my relics/autograph binder yet.

A lot of White Sox cards up there which isn't too surprising. 5 White Sox cards and none of them were in my player collections. I do enjoy doing these posts because I sometimes run into a card or 2 that I haven't seen in awhile, like the Magglio relic card. 3 cards from Jeff at 2x3 Heroes who we've seen his name a lot in the last month or so.

This isn't 2x3

Today's random came up with some vintage collection (real vintage). Despite what the title says, they all came from Jeff at 2x3 Heroes. All these photos came from TCDB because of the "lost scans incident."

Jeff is always good for some vintage because (I think) he buys a bunch of those repack boxes and there will be stuff in there. Although most of it is 80's, I think he does occasionally get some 70's as well. Adding these 2 to the set give me 350 cards which is over half done.

He also sent 1 from 1975 of Koosman who was a big part of the Miracle Mets in 1969. I'm not very far on the 1975 set as I am the 1976 set, this is only my 84th card from that set.

This is actually the reason for the title, this isn't 2x3 as in it's one of the couple of early sets that are just a little bigger than the normal cards. I'm sure this didn't come from one of those repack boxes either. It's only my 5th card from the 1956 set and 2 of those are White Sox cards. I really liked getting this card because my buying "rules" prevent me from getting great cards like this.
