Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Great News for me, PK for you

I was catching up on some reading before I came to do this post and read some exciting news. Exciting enough that I actually thought positive thoughts about Michigan football (it's been awhile.) No, it wasn't the signing of the extension for Jim Harbaugh. It was who he selected to be the running backs coach.

This Guy.

You should know him as one of my Tier 1 collections and personally, he's my favorite Michigan player of all time. He's been at IU coaching the running backs for the last couple of seasons, he also coined the phrase "Little Brother" in regards to that other team in Michigan. I'm excited to have him back in the Maize and Blue.

Sorry, I got a little lost in the good news. There is an actual post coming up. Yesterday we had the 1999 Konerko's, well, the great random on the internet decided to follow it up with his next year.

First up is the Ultra Gold Medallion. I do like that they die cut them this year.

The MLB Showdown. I still have never played this game.

A couple of Pacific, including the die cut red Crown Royal. That's a pretty sweet card.

A couple of Topps. The Chrome's aren't as nice as they are now and that card on the right is the Home Team Advantage parallel. I don't know how that set was distributed. If it was a team set or a parallel or whatever. Drop me a line if you know. I'm too lazy to look.

Last but not least, but because it's alphabetical, Upper Deck.

As you can see, I got a bunch from 2000 as well as the 1999. Don't worry, you'll get plenty more of PK before I'm done.

Paulie Pre-Sox

Just finished watching Michigan annihilate Wisconsin. If they play the way they've been playing, they should be in the final 4. They are talking about the tournament being completely held in Indiana. Would be nice if it wasn't during Covid, I probably would have tried to get tickets.

Today's post is another of PK, some of them pre-White Sox.
I picked up these 2 from the PK's short stay in Cincinnati. I always like the Reds and Dodgers cards of Konerko becaues they just look odd to me after all those years in a Sox uniform.

I picked up 1 Bowman with this Bowman's Best. It looks better than the scan, trust me.

I also picked up 2 from Pacific. Look at that bottom card with 3 photos of Paulie on there. I like the card even if that green isn't flattering.

1 card from Skybox. This is a nice card with the dark background and I like the jersey number on the front. I don't really make it a point to remember jersey numbers but I do know his.

You know you're going to have some Topps. Back in 1999 (I had a bunch of Topps that year), I don't remember ever seeing the Chromes. I have since, this isn't my first but I don't remember them back then. The Topps Star card is the base, I do have the 1 star already.

I thought I had the Victory, apparently not. The MVP is the silver script version.

In case you haven't figured it out, all these are from the various 1999 sets which was Paulie's first year with the Sox. Some of those cards are pre goatee when the only way I remember him is with it.

Other Topps Sox

I just spent the last hour or so finishing up my Tier 1 collection purchases on Sportlots so next week I'll start on the Tier 2. I have the Colts/Bills game on but I'm really not paying much attention to it. I'm listening to music and I just glance up occasionally to look at the TV. I just don't really get into the NFL much anymore. I watch highlights when I hear a Michigan grad made a good play or something but that's about it. Let's face it, most of those highlights are Tom Brady.

I found this a week or so ago and kept forgetting to post it so I'll go ahead and throw it up here.

So many great players passed last year and we're barely a week in this year and we lose a great manager. I was a little shocked to see he passed and then I saw his age, I didn't realize he was 93. He's been around forever and it's awesome that other than one year he played with the Kansas City A's, he spent his whole career with one team. At least he got to see them win another World Series before he left. RIP Tommy Lasorda.

Today's post are more White Sox cards from 2018 but from Topps.

We'll start off with Allen & Ginter. The top 2 complete the A&G set for that year. The Frank Thomas collection is now at 543 cards.

I'm only half way (4 of 8) on the A&G X set though.

The top 5 cards of the Big League set complete the team set for me. I do like the looks of this set and hope it sticks around for awhile. That Carson Fulmer up top gives me 29 cards of him.

I just happened to run across these gold versions as well and added them.

This Finest card still leaves me 1 card short for that team set. That 1 card is a player collection so I'm sure at some point I'll pick it up.

I also like the Fire set but I could do without all the color parallels but they are pretty much a part of collecting now. The 2 above, leave me a card short of the team set as well. That is my 135th card of the MVP, Abreu.

These 2 cards leave me 1 short, again, of the team set but that last card is a short printed card of a player collection. The above cards of Reynaldo Lopez give me 24 of his, we're hoping for good things from him this year and maybe I'll get those numbers boosted as well.

I still need 3 cards to complete the Heritage set but all 3 of those are short prints and one of those is a variation short print. The above Avisail Garcia cards give me 36 cards of him. I thought I had more than that in the 6 years he was with us.

This Rodon leave me 1 short print short of completing that set but it's a short print variation card. This is my 46th card of the former Sox as they just released him after the 2020 season.

Last but not least, you can't go without having stickers. I'm still a few short of this team set even with the 5 above. The Derek Holland (3 cards) and Leury Garcia (9 cards) stickers are the first on this post of those players. The James Shields cards above give me 10 cards of him and the Yolmer Sanchez's give me 18 of him. Out of these 4 players, Leury is the only one still with the Sox.

Panini Sox

Well, we were supposed to work tomorrow, but our boss forgot to tell us yesterday so all he could do today was take volunteers. I gave that a big "Hell No!" I did tell him if he really needed me I'd come in but he said they'd be good. Whew!

Today we get a team post. I'm excited about this year's team and just want baseball to start. I'm also excited that I got into Nachos Grande's Breakers Club so I won't have to fight prospectors for the White Sox cards. The wife didn't appreciate the drop of $100 in one shot on cards but I told her that Chris promised me an auto of Luis Robert so if Chris doesn't want to wreck my marriage, than he better come through. No pressure though! In all seriousness, I'm excited for the breaks to start and appreciate Chris for what he does. There are still plenty of team available so check out the link.

These are all 2018 Panini brand.

I picked up these 3 parallels of the Donruss Optic of Thyago Vieira. I actually picked up 4 but I already had one of them. I really don't know anything about him other than he has quite a few cards. I've got 10 now and 5 are from this set and 5 autographs

I also picked up 2 from the their Chronicles set which oddly enough, are the only 2 Sox cards so that completes that team set. I have 135 cards of the reigning AL MVP Abreu and 28 of the no longer with the Sox Delmonico. I think he's still a free agent and I know at one time, it wasn't ruled out that he would resign with us.
