Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Zimmy's dozen

Well Atlanta went up 1-0 and are getting ready to play again tonight. I haven't watched it but I heard at work that Charlie Morton broke his leg pitching. When I got home and was checking out the interwebs, I read that he threw 10 pitches after breaking it, sat a half inning and went out and threw 6 more pitches. That's crazy!

Today's post is a former World Series winner who everyone is guessing that he's retiring this off-season but he hasn't officially announced it that I've heard. Since he hasn't, he still has the distinction of being the only current player in my Tier 3 collections. He's also one of the rare few that you see anymore that stayed with his original team his whole career.

I got these 7 from Sluggo. I assume the Gypsy Queen at the bottom came later than the others since I only scanned the 1 card by itself. I would assume that I would have picked all those up if I had made it to him on Sportlots because they are all base cards, nothing special.

I picked this up at my LCS in his dime box. I actually got a bunch of these, I think in an Ebay auction a long time ago, I only wanted one card but won 15 or so really cheap but I didn't get this one in the lot.

I picked up these 2 at the National. I'm pretty sure I got them at that half off box that I had mentioned in a previous post. I picked up the card on the left (rookie commemorative patch) for $1.50 and the card that says rookie but isn't actually a rookie for $.50.

I picked up these to at the Baseball Card Exchange way back in July. I paid $2.75 each for them. The nice thing about Zimmerman (a lot like Konerko was) is even though he's an above average player, most collector's ignore him so I can usually get his stuff cheaper. I actually have 10 relics of him.

These 12 cards give me 130 cards of Zimmy! That'll go up quite a bit if I ever get back to Sportlots.

Lots of Tim

With the NBA kicking off last week, it's easier to show off NBA cards. Not that that would have stopped me from showing them before but it sounds good.

Tonight is game 1 of the World Series, I doubt I'll watch it as we are way behind on the DVR but I will definitely be following it. I'll probably be in bed before it ends.

All of the above came from Sportlots, 2 different shipments as it's been awhile since I posted Hardaway cards. 5 months to be exact. That's 49 cards, just from Sportlots. Lots of great cards up there but you know the last 2 are my favorites and they both have the block M on them.

I picked up this Mosaic Prizm card at the card show in Shipshewana. Believe it or not, in a dime box at that. From the afore mentioned couple that I've bought a ton of cards from.

This Revolution Starburst was $1 at the Kalamazoo card show. Those last 2 are nice card show pickups. Look at it this way, divide it up and I only paid $.55 each for those 2 cool looking cards. This card is also numbered to /75 as well.

These last 5 all came from Sluggo when I was going through the NBA cards. You get 3 different teams in 2 scans.

These 56 cards, once again, over doubled my previous collection as the Hardaway collection is now at 81 cards. For those bad at math, that means it was only at 25 cards before all these purchases. Tim is my highest basketball player collection.

Happy Birthday - Chris Wormley

Chris was born on this day in 1993, making him 28 today.

NFL Debut - October 8th, 2017

Years Active -

  • 2017-2019 (Ravens)
  • 2020-current (Steelers)
2017 Rookie (Ravens)

Technically, I have a bunch of rookies since all the cards I have of him are from 2017. Which is also why I don't have any of him with the Steelers yet.

Cards on TCDB - 206 cards

Cards I have - 20 cards

Pretty cool design on these Unparalleled.

Where they came from -

I have 4 Michigan non-hits although 3 are all different variations of the same card. Always like the score cards because of the full uniforms and team logos.

I have 4 autographs in Michigan uniforms. I actually have 3 of the one on the left.

I have 5 autographs with the Ravens as I have 4 copies of the first card. I kept picking them up really cheap if I remember correctly.

Happy Birthday Chris!

*All cards pictured are in my collection but the scans/photos are from TCDB.

Atlanta it is

Michigan won and is going to face an undefeated Michigan State next week. It's the first time both teams were unbeaten when they meet. Should be a good game. I don't ever predict games because I know anything can happen, especially in this game.

Looks like we're getting a Braves/Astros World Series. I was rooting for the Braves all along in the National League but they were supposed to face my White Sox. To be honest, I would have taken anyone over Houston so I'm definitely rooting for the Braves. Which leads to today's post.

While today's post isn't football or basketball, it's still a Michigan guy post but it's baseball. I like to add to the Michigan baseball guys because it's a much longer road to the pros than those previous sports so the cards are harder to come by. Which make them hard to search for because by the time they do make the pros, they've been out of college for a few years and I don't remember them. It's not like I get to watch a ton of college baseball every year, I'm lucky to get a few games on Big Ten network. Unlike basketball and football where I can see every game. I have to keep a list of players drafted and check those lists occasionally.

You'll get a Bowman card or 2 right away, then silence as you wait for him to make it to the pros. Unless he's a can't miss prospect, which is rare. This is only my 2nd card of Jesse, too bad he hasn't made the pros, I could have been watching him in their playoff run and World Series.

Running Frank

Looks like Houston made it to the World Series. Still waiting to see if the Braves make it. At this point, no matter who makes it, I'll be rooting for the National League.

Today's post, however, is not a baseball post so you know what that means, a Michigan guy.

Judging by all those cards, I'd say Frank likes to run a lot. I guess when you get action shots of a lineman, it's these shots or ones with other players in it.

These 13 cards give me 16 of Frank. As you can tell, it really boosted his collection as I only had 3 before this Sportlots order came in.
