Welcome

This blog is about sports cards. I tend to only purchase cheap items so don't come hear expecting to see big money cards. My teams collections are Chicago White Sox and Michigan Wolverines. I also have a bunch of player collections.

Sluggo trying to hit all my PC's

We set up in South Bend today. It's usually a good show and today was alright. It wasn't a bad show or a great show, somewhere in between. It was actually very strange, the traffic was really good, a lot of people. This show we usually do well on our wax and lower end singles. Today, we did decent on our showcase and nothing else. Sold a few wax boxes, even some that we've carried awhile but nothing like we nearly do. Like I said, it wasn't a bad show, just kind of weird.

I did get some cards but I didn't spend any money. That's always a plus. Obviously nothing high dollar since I didn't pay for anything but you'll have to wait until the next post as I have today's which is cards Kevin (Sluggo) brought me last week that I just finished going through yesterday.

He brought me a decent stack of PC stuff to see if I needed it and also a 2 row box filled with 1980 Topps and 1982 Fleer to see if I needed any of those. Here's what I kept.

He gave me a 2 row box with a row and a half filled with 1982 Fleer and all I came up were the 10 cards on the left but I was a lot closer to finishing that set so I didn't need near as many. That set is now at 97% finished, I only need 13 cards, including the rookie Ripken.

The other half a row had some 1980 Topps in it and as you can see in the photo, I needed a lot more of those. 118 to be exact. Those cards put me at 78% complete on it.

He also hit a bunch of my other collections. Starting with the team cards.

The top 2 are from the stack of PC stuff, the bottom one was in with the 1980 stuff. That's a Topps Heritage and a Fleer Tradition at the top.

Next up is the White Sox Collection.

He sent me 14 Sox cards that I needed, this is half of them. The other half were 90's stuff that we've all seen 100 times. The bottom row consists of possibly our future. Both have seen playing time in Chicago already and looking for more. I've been picking up both of their cards when I run across them.

Next up, Tier 3.

Kevin always hits me up with the Strawberry's and Gooden's in all the 80's and 90's sorting he does. These 6 give me 165 cards of him.

As I mentioned above, I get a bunch of these from Kevin. These 3 of Gooden give me 167 of him.

I don't however, get many of Zimmy from Kevin but he sent me this clear card to add to that PC. This one gives me 401 of Ryan.

Now on to Tier 2

Another winter of Eloy, my last post had the Holiday base card, this one is the Metallic parallel even though you can't really see the flakes. I like the City Slickers, Eloy is in his city connect jersey, makes me wonder if that's what this parallel is all about. I haven't looked into yet. These 2 give me 217 of the big baby.

I'm pretty sure I showed the Chrome version of this 2023 update of Fisk in my last post as well. This one gives me 389 cards of Pudge.

This Buehrle is an insert from A&G commemorating his 15 perfect innings. Obviously there was a perfect game mixed in there. I only picked up 6 of his last year so it'll be nice to get some more of him this year. It'll help if he keeps getting inserted into newer sets. This one gives me 388 so maybe I can double last year and hit 400 by the end of the year.

One more Sox card with this one of Liam, the scan did a pretty crappy job of this card. It's only my 41st of our former closer.

I do have one more Tier 2, just not a Sox. I picked up this Sample card from Score of Larkin. This one gives me 752 cards of Barry.

Now onto the Tier 2 Michigan PC's.

Kevin game me 2 cards of DJ Turner, one in the Maize and Blue and all shiny. These 2 give me 3 cards of Turner, that Rated Rookie is the first pro jersey card.

Kevin picked up 4 or 5 of each of these and we threw them in our showcase in Kalamazoo, Michigan and they sold quick. Luckily, he had already set aside both of them for me. That is my 10th card of Corum and 11th of JJ. Not bad consider neither have been drafted yet.

You might of heard of the first guy up there. I hate the helmet on this card but it's still a Hutch card and it's my 46th of the rookie.

I also hate those Wild Card Matte cards because the color parallels are sometimes hard to figure out but this one was fairly straight forward on TCDB. Again, hate the helmet but it's my 21st card of Haskins.

A "baseball" card of Denard since it's technically in a baseball set (one of the reason's I'm not a fan of A&G). I feel like I just showed the base of this not long ago. This mini is the A&G back and is my 112th of Shoelace which is my highest football PC.

The Sean McKeon Optic on the right is my 8th of him. Finally back to normal looking helmets.

On to the basketball portion. Kevin gave me these 3 cards of the younger Wagner brother. The first is a Pro Picks, not sure what that is, the other 2 are Panini inserts. These 3 give me 45 cards of Franz.

That's all for the basketball, but I do have some baseball as well.

I also added these 2 of Jake. The first being the Big League and once again, the mini is an A&G back only this one is from 2022. These 2 give me 81 cards of Cronenworth.

He also hit me with some Michigan collection only cards which means they are earlier than when I started my player collections.

Some really cool cards up there and some that I had never seen before. I was surprised I didn't already have the Jake Long, the Wheatley is the Gold parallel of Ultra and the Avant is my 4th different version of that card. The bottom row of the top 6 I had never seen before. The Edwards is pretty cool and the other 2 basketball are TK Legacy's. The bottom photo is 3 different of Chris Perry, I like the looks of the Showbound insert and 2 different of John Navarre.

I'll try to get the cards I got at the show today up before my next birthday post, that gives me a couple of days. Until then.

  1. The 1988 Fleer Headliner Gooden is a great looking card. Always liked that set.

  2. With all of the time you spend at shows now, one would think that you'd eventually come across a reasonably priced Ripken rookie.

Sorry about the word verification, but blogger sucks at filtering out the comments as of late. As bad as their last update is.
